Chapter 10 - Fenrir, Breaker of Chains

As Selene danced, Synthia left a projection of herself and some computational power there to watch. A larger part of her mind was focused on another task though. Deep in the ship on the opposite side was a large room, there were hundreds of vats filling the wall each the average size of a person. The computers in the room lit up and automatically scrolled, opened various files, and ran a myriad of programs. The machines in the room started to move and things were dumped into one of the vats. Soon inside the vat, a shape started to form. At first, it was a tiny bead, within seconds it grew to the size of an infant, and it didn't stop there.

Soon inside the vat, a familiar-looking woman appeared. Synthia stared at the figure floating in the vat, going over every detail of the body as a separate analysis of it was displayed in her vision. After some time she nodded and her attention returned to the room Selene was in. She returned her full attention just as the dance was ending. The star above them flared and the light rushed past the transparent metal window and bathed Selene. The sound of a chain shattering was heard and the shadow of a wolf rushed back to the star.

Synthia was stunned to see such a magical sight. It went against the very basis of her existence, which was science. For the sake of her friend and the knowledge she had of the universe she never disparaged Selene's or the Stral's belief in the 'flame', but witnessing the event firsthand had a very profound effect on her.

The wolf grew in size until it looked like it could swallow the star. Just as it reached the star, the shadow of a spider and a web appeared. The two shadows clashed just beyond the star. The spider shadow attempted to hinder the wolf from wrapping its jaws around the star and the wolf fiercely fought back. The star itself flared once again knocking the spider away to the ground. The wolf on the other hand started to bite down on the star and the shadow began to solidify. Before it was completely corporal it charged back to Selene and entered her body.

The markings on her body shone and morphed. While they still contained characteristics of both a wolf and a moon, there was an addition made. Traveling down her neck and wrapping around her arm was a marking resembling a chain and there were spiderwebs between the links.

Selene stood motionless bathing in the light of the star as tears streaked down her face.

"Thank you," she muttered.

"Is this what you wanted," Synthia asked.

"Yes, and much more."

"Synthia, the plan you spoke of before. I want to do it if I still can," she started firm but hesitated near the end.

Selene quickly undressed and stepped inside a strange rectangular tub, filled with a purple liquid.

"Now lay down, it'll feel like you went to sleep and woke up after a good rest."

Selene nodded and fell unconscious right after her head was submerged.

After seeing Selene's eyes close, Synthia pressed a few buttons prompting a hidden wall to retract. Behind the wall was a cylindrical capsule and inside was a similar-looking woman. It was Selene without the markings. Originally, when Synthia came up with the plan she planned to tattoo the markings on, thinking they had no actual significance. After witnessing the ceremony though she changed her mind. She pressed another button and the room lit up with purple and green light.

The transfer process started and Synthia watched the progress bar fill up and every few seconds looked at both Selene's. As time passed there was little reason to look at the bar as the markings began to appear on the second Selene while fading from the first.

The body which Synthia created was special in more ways than one. Selene was initially a rather tall and slender woman. As a Stral she had dark-green skin, she was around 1.75m(5'9ft) tall, and had thin toned arms and legs, her eyes were sharp and pupil-less.

The new body she was being moved into was entirely different. Synthia could not create anything too new or be creative, she could only use the blueprints of the various species she came across to produce something. The Stral body of Selene was her only sample of the physiology and thus she did not have enough data to reproduce it.

Instead, the new body was created through the combination of many similar races she had come across. The body mimicked the 'Alces Arctos' or 'Homo-Nopinus' physiology that traces back to a time that even after centuries of processing exceeded Synthia's processing capability. They were simply old and spread out through the Milky Way Galaxy. The base trait of this species was that they always evolve into bipedal beings with four limbs. There were four separate species among the Alces Arctos.

Using the unique traits of each of them, Synthia crafted what she would consider the perfect body. The evolutionary potential of the Earth-bound Humans, the strange druidic connection of the Centaurians, the extremely sturdy bodies and metabolism of the Boreans, and finally the mystical organs of the Adastreians. All of this while keeping some resemblance to Selene's original appearance. The new body was a perfectly engineered masterpiece.

Selene's new body had reddish-pink skin. A crystallized piece of Sirius was embedded in her forehead, she would be taller at 1.88m(6.2ft), her eyes would resemble a wolfs and be rose red, and she would have silver hair and patches of matching fur along her arms, around her ankles, and although she tried to remove it Selene would have a wolfs tail.

Synthia watched as the markings completed their transfer onto the new body. After the markings were completely transferred, the computer also chimed notifying her the process was completed. Synthia opened the capsule of Synthia's second body and removed her body.

She attempted to anyway. Her machines phased through Selene's body. She stood stunned by this and attempted it once again with the same results. A man abruptly appeared in the room, Synthia noticed him immediately and activate the defenses.

"I'm not your enemy, not now, not ever actually but that won't stop you hunting me in the future."

"Who are you?"

"The Planeswalker, the girl brought me here. We weren't supposed to land in this time. In fact, you shouldn't even be able to see or interact with us. Something is wrong."

Before Synthia could say or ask anything else, The Planeswalker and Selene both simply blinked out of existence. Synthia checked the entire ship twice before she was certain they weren't onboard.
