Selene found herself falling through the pages of the records once again. This time though the feeling was different. The last time she experienced this she had the feeling of falling uncontrollably off an endless cliff. This time it felt more like stepping off one of the low cliffs back home, the fall was slow and she could see the landing point the whole time.
Most importantly, she didn't feel as though her thought process was being guided anymore. Being free to think and look around she realized there was something she'd missed.
'What was he? He looked so strange, definitely not a Stral. Not just him all of them were so different.' she thought.
She hadn't realized it at the time but the Planeswalker was entirely alien to her and not just him, everyone in Erogelic was utterly alien. It was strange that she was only noticing this now despite holding a conversation with the Planeswalker for several minutes and closely scrutinizing the clothing of the men and women of Erogelic.
Those thoughts faded and became irrelevant as she neared her landing point. From what she could see, this time she would be landing on solid ground.
"What is this," she shrieked.
Although, she stopped falling she also didn't land. She remained floating in midair. This new and strange situation sent her into an even greater panic than just standing on an invisible platform. Though a general curiosity also joined this panic. She looked around the area in search of something to hold onto but only found that she was in a large empty room with sparse lanterns hanging from the ceiling.
'Lifeforms Detected. Commencing Internal Scan.'
"Who is there. Can you help me get down," Selene shouted.
Or she attempted to, she realized now that there was no sound coming from her mouth. Though her thoughts resounded several times louder in her head. She looked around hoping to find the source of whatever was speaking and hopefully get help.
All she found was an orange light sweeping through the room toward her. It quickly passed over her body twice before she could react to it.
'Lifeform found. Sensory Chamber. Biology Unknown. Activating Wake Up Protocol.'
Selene was still confused and still could not find the source of the voice. She also had no idea what the orange light did and she although she could understand what was being said, she could not understand the meaning of the words, some of which only the intention was transmitted to her.
A curtain of orange light appeared on the far side of the room ahead of Selene. As it grew closer she was able to vaguely make out a figure. She didn't need to strain too hard as it soon appeared in front of her.
"What are you," it asked, while it curiously circled Selene.
"Can you help me down, I like to stand on solid ground."
"Ah, I see we cannot understand each other. Your language is not registered in my database. Strange, I have records of all languages used in the nearby galaxies," it voiced out. It appeared in front of Selene looking into her eyes and they could both recognize the mutual curiosity in them.
"What are you," it was now Selene's turn to ask that question.
"Rather, than 'what' it would be more polite to ask 'Who are you despite my appearance I am very much a person," it replied.
This reply gave Selene a shock, although it was rough it was no doubt that she was hearing the native Stral language of Tinban.
"You speak Tinban," she asked, still in amazement.
"I do now, I also speak several other languages from around the nearby... oh you do not have a word for that yet. Well as a thank you for bringing me new knowledge I will offer you the knowledge of what I want to say and you can come up with a word for it in Tinban."
"Wait, before that can you get me down from here."
"Ah yes gravity, I forgot, it has been a long time. Ready yourself."
Gravity suddenly returned to the ship and Selene fell from a decent height to the ground. Thankfully, because of the warning, she was able to land safely and unharmed, even if a bit ungraceful by her standards.
"Thank you, I am Selene of the Wolfmoon, and you are?"
"You can call me Synthia, the ones who named me lacked... the mind spark of the flame," Synthia said the last part with a bit of uncertainty.
"Apologies, your language is still new to me, I need to find ways to convey my meaning."
Selene was entirely floored. In her eyes, she was speaking to a spirit no different from the ones that came from the flame back home. She could only think that the priests from her home would think she had suffered from the heat and storms of their world. She herself did not completely believe what was happening.
"What are you and where is this?"
"You are aboard the Vanis, though the name translates differently in each language. As for where we are look for yourself," Synthia replied, and pointed behind Selene.
Turning around Selene was greeted by something she'd have a hard time explaining.
"I have never felt so small. My clan was the largest clan on back home, but even if all the clans gathered we would never fill this. It's so big and scary, it is so scary how can we live in something so big and call ourselves a large clan. We are barely any bigger than a colony of Groutworms."
This was Selene's reaction to seeing space for the first time. Synthia took in her reaction and enjoyed it. It was her first time interacting with anything truly living in a long time and she had even been able to share with someone the view which has evolved so many species across galaxies for the first time.
She could only wonder how this revelation would change this person. And if it did change her how would it change the current state of the galaxies.
