Chapter 2 - Naming Ceremony pt.2

The young woman with the coiling markings stuck close to the bear-marked young man. She twisted her body around him getting them both entangled in each other. The flutes began to overpower the sound of the drums, their melody entrancing and hypnotic. She raised her body to be face to face with the bear-marked man, staring deeply into his eyes. Her gaze so entrancing she led him back to the flames. With the pale flames as a backdrop, every twist of her hips, and twirl of her hair framed her as a majestic divine being.

She twirled her once again the embers of the flame licking at her fingertips and quickly traveling along with them and soon tracing the markings on her body. The flames roared and even the young man's markings were reignited. The woman found herself in the embrace of the bear-marked young man.

The drums kicked back in, the rolling thunder overpowering the air instrument's entrancing melody. His wild dance started once again, but this time his invisible opponent was the young woman in his arms. She on the other hand slipped through and around him between every movement, he could feel her breath tickle his skin and the warmth of her body escape him more with each second.

The air instruments began to conflict and battle for dominance over the violent beating of the drums. Suddenly both instruments calmed, and the dance came to a rest. The two had broken away from each other. The bear-marked young man now having regained himself stared at the coil-marked young woman watching her every move. Her movements remained entrancing, her flexibility and charm on full display.

She approached the other young woman with the beautiful and intricate wing markings. As she got closer the image of a snake erupted from the flames and dove down on her. The markings on her body shone, as the flames touched the odd crescent mark on her back they changed color and reversed course. Red flames retraced her markings and reached the shadow of the snake. The snake began to coil into itself and eventually bit its tail.

Her dance changed, dragging the wing-marked woman into the dance she sifted between her and the bear-marked young man. She entangled and entwined her body around both for a few moments before switching partners, each journey between her partners brought them closer. Eventually, the three met the Ouroboros-marked woman who entangled the three together, herself between them.

Her body smoothly slipped through the advance of either partner drawing their touches to each other. The entrancing melody of the air instrument's going unnoticed as everyone was now entranced by the dance. The closer she got to one, the further she got from the other, and drawing them in with the deceptive promise of herself, she drew them to each other.

The bear-marked man's dance was no longer one of wild ferocity, but strength and confidence much tamer than before. The wing-marked young woman took advantage of this strength. As the bear-marked man circled the wing-marked young woman blocking the advances of the Ouroboros-marked woman, the wing-marked young woman started her dance.

The fires of the bear-marked man slowly made their way to the wing-marked young woman and ushered in her dance. The flames immediately exploded on her. Her movements and the sound of several angelic string instruments moved in unison. Sweeping movements, elegant airy twirls, movements so graceful and gentle. The music had now become a battle tune, as the bear-marked man faced off against the snake-marked woman. Unbeknownst to him while his dance warded of the Ouroboros-marked woman, whenever his back was turned and she advanced she was interrupted by the wing-marked young woman.

Not deterred the Ouroboros-marked woman continued her advances, but the winged-marked young woman's fire flared and her dance became a push. Still elegant, the aggressive movements took both partners by surprise. She pushed toward the woman while sifting back and forth keeping both her and the man away. Until only she was left at the fire alone. The elegance and calm of before returned to the dance, occasionally an aggressive movement was made when either partner stepped forward.

The pale-blue flame turned white and washed over her and exploded outward. Wings of fire appeared before everyone before the shadow of a butterfly beat its flaming wings taking to the air slightly. However, before it could take off completely another shadow came from the flames piercing the butterfly. Following the shadow, six legs and a pair of pincers appeared on either side of the impaled butterfly. The legs pushed up as the pincers moved apart tearing the butterfly in two, revealing a scorpion.

The formerly wing-marked young woman appeared as the flames retreated. She no longer had the beautiful and intricate wing markings. Her markings changed, along the sides of her hips and waist were four sharp lines pointing to her navel. Around her breast and moving up as if grasping her collar bone markings reminiscent of pincers, there were more sharp lines traveling the length of her legs to the tips of her toes. Finally replacing the wings on her back was an armor-like marking, from which the tail of the scorpion ran the length of her spine ending with the pincer at the tailbone.

The fire calmed and the crowd applauded as the three climbed from the crater and donned robes. They had been welcomed among the adults of their people, two of them had even experienced a metamorphosis. They were bound to be important figures in the clan from that day onward.

Now only two remained in the crater. The large-wing marked young man and the Wolf Moon-marked Selene. Everyone especially anticipated their dances.
