Chapter 111 - Sect Leader Damien (3)

"Well damn!" I whispered as I saw the Golden Canary clan's residence. It was only after seeing it did I truly understand just how great the power of money was.

The giant gates before me were golden. The residence sat on at the very least several acres of land. There were many martial artists that I could see beyond the gate training.

The stench of sweat was covered by the huge garden filled with flowers with over a hundred maids. That was the amount of people in my sect. The house was ridiculously big. It was only three floors but the width of it was enough to house people.

In front of the gate stood many people wearing rags. They were begging to be let in so that they could learn martial arts. I could understand why they wanted to learn martial arts. In the world of Murim, strength was necessary to survive. Therefore these people were throwing away their pride and resort to begging just so that they could become stronger.

It was a shame that no matter how much they begged they would not be allowed one foot inside the sect.

The gaurds stood vigilantly like the red coats at Buckingham Palace and made sure no one came close to the gates. As soon as they noticed me and Mulk that was walking beside me the cleared the area and opened the gates for us.

Before I had arrived, several days ago I wrote a letter and had it sent to the Golden Canary clan speaking of my intent to cure their young mistress in exchange for several martial arts scroll. They had agreed.

We moved forward and we reached the gate when we met someone. He was a well built man in his mid thirties. He had a long beard and hair and wore nice clothes. He looked tired but he did not let it show although I saw right through him. His dull gray eyes, his tired breathing, the shaking of his legs it was obvious to me that he was tired. He was vice sect Leader Buu Gangrak.

I got of my donkey and the man bowed but it did not. "It is an honour to meet Sect Leader Damien. We have been expecting you for quite some time."

"The honour is all ours." I replied. Although I had not bowed since I thought that it was stupid to bow to anyone but God I decided to mindmy words and have proper manners."We thank you and Sect Leader Himen Young for being gracious enough to let us inside your home."

"If you can cure our young lady then we have no reason to shun you away. Please follow me." he said.

I followed him into the house. We walked down the halls, past the walls filled with paintings and decorated with medals and plates. It was a big house and I was quite interested with the statues along the corridors that I stopped to gaze at them.

"Are you interested in the Hallers?" Buu asked me once he noticed that I had stopped and was admiring the statues.

"The Hallers?" I asked.

"The Hallers, the seven anthropomorphic personifications that live in this world."

"Oh, so are they your gods?" I asked. Buu chuckled.

"The Hallers are not gods. They are above humans and all living things but also below them at the same time as they serve us."

"Like a king and his subjects?"

"A bit like that but not exactly. You see that over there. That is Asura, the personification of violence and reason." I glanced at the statue he was pointing at. It was of a man clad in armour and holding a giant battle axe in his left hand. He was tall and skinny with long hair that covered his face.

"That is Melka, the personification of greater good and hypocrisy." The statue he pointed at was of a two faced woman. One side of her face was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen while the other half was covered in scales. She wore a long dress that showed her naval button.

For some reason I had the urge to stick my tongue in it.

"That is Sofia, he is the personification of change and good will." The statue was of a man wearing a beautiful summer dress, a leather jacket, sandals and he had several piercings on his faces.

I pointed at the statue in the middle. It was that of a faceless man with long nails that were more like claws. He wore nothing but a single leaf that covered his junk. His body was well built and bursting with muscles. The symmetry and proportions of his muscles and his limbs were something that I had never seen before. He had a buzz cut and several tattoos on his body. The tattoos were lines and circles.

"Who is that?" I asked. Buu frowned and his expression darkened.

"His name can never be said out loud otherwise his attention will be drawn to you and misfortune will befall you. If you want to talk of him then you refer to him as the Liar." Immediately several things fell in place.

So this is The Liar. The one whose true name should never be spoken. The one whose presence alone brings misfortune to anyone near him. My greatest and most intriguing creation in the book The character that I knew the least about that I should avoid.

I brought my phone out and took several pictures of all seven statues. Despite writing the book I did not know of these 'anthropomorphic personifications'.

"What is that in your hand?" Buu asked me as he looked at the phone in my hand.

"This is a phone, it is used to calculate complicated things. They are really useful for merchants."

"I see."

We had reached a room which was being guarded by 4 gaurds. They were all big and held giant halberds. They opened the door and I walked inside and saw my patient.
