As soon as I took a step into the Deromian wilderness and stepped away from society I almost fainted. The atmosphere here was completely different. The gravity was at least triple what it was and the oxygen in the air was greater. I don't know how much since I did not record the oxygen levels but it was a lot.
I stood still for a moment as my head was spinning. The feeling I got was the same one I got when I stood up too fast but more intense. Way more intense. My mind was muddled and I managed to control my breathing.
I glanced down at Thomas who had been strapped to my chest and I cursed myself as I noticed he was completely unconscious.
"Fuck!" I shouted out as I gathered Hyoksi to my Hands. Even the Hyoksi here was far denser than before. Using the Hyoksi I made a mask that filtered the air. It cut out the enormous unnecessary oxygen and just allowed in the usual amount of oxygen used back in society.
I placed it on him and softly stroked his head.
What I needed to do first was get as far away as possible from the giant gate in case soldiers were sent in.
A single step was not that hard for me and it felt like my muscles had just been through a light workout. I walked forward begrudgingly. Slowly but surely I made considerable distance from the gate.
The Deromian wilderness was a desert. At least 18 percent of it. And this is exactly where I was. In a desert with no directions,no compass or gps. I should have prepared better but it was pointless crying of spilt milk.
I looked over at the setting sun in the west and using the sun I made my way north. That was where the world's Serpents eggshells were. I needed them before I could meet the soul collector. It was important that I did otherwise it would be pointless.
The sun bore down on me and I was already tired. The heat that I was feeling was incredible. I held my phone up which had a thermometer built into it. When I leave this I should write a letter of complaint to Bokia on how they should add compasses to their phones and not just thermometers.
The temperature was was a ridiculous 82 degrees Celsius or 179.6 Fahrenheit. There was no cloud in the sky that protected me from the harsh sun. I quickly coated Thomas's entire body in Hyoksi. I needed to protect him.
"HOOOMAN! WHERE ARE WE? WHAT IS THIS PLACE? IT FEELS DIFFERENT!" A voice from the pouch came.
"I had completely forgotten about you. Can you sense the difference in environment?" I asked.
"Yes, it's feels different, everything does. The heat, gravity, humidity and everything else. Even the oxygen levels have increased by over 5 fold."
"5 fold! That would explain why horrors here are significantly larger than back in society. I wonder if we will meet one soon." I wondered.
"Hooman, what is this place?"
"The Deromian wilderness." I replied curtly as I continued walking in the extremely hit sand. I had coated my entire body in Hyoksi and it was not that hard to control. The reason being was that my Hyoksi reserves should be at the very least 50 times more than the average super.
"The Deromian wilderness? Hooman, does though not knowest of the dangers in this place? Creatures and monstrosities far beyond what your feeble strength can handle live in here. You have basically sentenced us all to death. You, me and the child. Turn back before it is too late." The lion warned me. I could understand his worry but I did not listen. Advice most needed is advice least heeded.
"Don't worry about such things. I'll protect you both. You are both investments and I will not allow any thing to harm you."
It was at this moment when I heard a loud screech and as I turned my head to the sky I saw a giant monster. It had 17 pairs of wings which eclipsed the sun and cast over me a huge shadow. A giant beak filled with nothing but canines. It's neck was bald but every part of its body was covered in feathers including its legs and talons.
It swooped down towards me like a meteor hurtling towards earth. It's body was outstretched with its beaking facing me it plummeted from the sky.
I did not even realise that it was halfway towards me until I felt it's hunger. I quickly jumped into the sky and levitated there and had I been a second late I would have been torn into shreds.
A huge wave of sand flew into the air and nearly crushed me had I not flew higher up. I could fly without wings. This was a result of eating the Mallet crow. The Mallet crow had the innate ability to control and manipulate energy. Therefore I was using Hyoksi to keep myself afloat.
As I looked down I noticed that giant bird that had attacked me was not that big. It was actually quite small. It was the same size of an adult penguin and had only 2 pairs of wings instead of seventeen. I raised my hand and immediately vaporized it out of existence.
At least that is what I thought. It had not been vaporized at all but it was dead.
It's body was charred like coal as I left myself back down to the ground. I examined the bird wondering how it was possible.
The bird had an extremely thick layer of scales that seemed to have lessened the damage and prevented it from being vaporized.
I kept studying the bird and there really wasn't anything special. I wanted to know how it made itself seem bigger than it actually was. In the end I could not figure it out and I just chalked it up as a fright tactic that it used to scare of predators and its prey so that they would be too terrified to move.
When I saw how big it was I did not understand why it would go after me. A huge horror like it would have no use for the small amount of calories found in humans. This is why giants and dragons do not go after humans. The energy wasted was not worth the energy gained from a simple human.
I then started back on my path heading north.
