Chapter 26 - Start of Expedition

Today was the day, the entirety of the first year would take a trip to the Dungeon of Ferociousness.

Mason and Remi had already packed their bags and were waiting in front of the academy, this was the place the buses would arrive at.

Teacher John had arrived early because he was the one to lead all the first years, this job was harder than he thought it would be since quite a few of them were rebellious.

After another 30 minutes, the buses finally arrived. Mason recognized one of the drivers.

"What's up Jared? How you been?" Mason said as he walked towards the bus.

"Mason? You really did enroll, huh? I expected it because I saw your strength first-hand." Jared said.

"Of course I did! This academy won't find anyone like me in a million years." Mason said, faking arrogance.

"Sure, remember me when you're famous in that case!" Jared answered jokingly.

The teacher asked to stand in line so he could count the students, so Mason ran back towards his class.

"How many students do we have in total, John?" A different teacher asked.

"We have got 184, it should be right since 26 aren't coming." Teacher John answered.

"Okay, I'll tell headmaster. Good luck on your trip!" The teacher said.

Teacher John took a microphone as he started speaking.

"You all know what we're doing, just behave and don't give me trouble. That's all!"

Mason and Remi entered the bus and sat next to each other. People didn't dare to look at Remi but Mason got a lot of icy stares, probably since he was sitting next to the most beautiful girl in the school.

'Damn, it's not my fault none of you have any game at all. Go stare into a mirror and look at your faces, you all ugly as hell.' Mason thought.

It was a three hour trip and Mason couldn't sleep that well yesterday so he decided he would get some sleep in the bus. He wanted to be at full energy in the dungeon too.

-------------------------------------------------

"Good morning sleepyhead, we've arrived." Remi said.

Mason opened his eyes as he stared out in front of him.

"That was two hours? It felt like two minutes, I should really fix my sleeping schedule." Mason said.

The whole class exited the bus with Mason coming out of it last. He felt his whole body was stiff, except for that part.

Teacher John started his explanation while Mason stretched.

'Remi will explain to me later, I shouldn't be stiff in a dungeon.' He said.

The entirety of year one started walking towards the entrance of the dungeon.

"You made sure there's no other people in the dungeon, right?" Teacher John asked the Mage at the entrance.

"Of course, John" He answered.

Teacher John then signalled to get in, the competition would start the moment they entered.

Mason stopped stretching as he smiled at Remi.

"Let's get this first place, no?"

Remi smiled back towards him.

"Of course, who do you think I am?"

After that, they both entered the dungeon.

The first thing Mason did in the dungeon was ask the system for a report on the beasts in it. He wanted to know the level of the beasts as well as their names. He had studied beasts for a month, he hoped he could use his knowledge here.

[Conducting scan of beasts]

[Five different types of beasts found]

[Level 1-5, Toxic Spider]

[Level 6-10, Draconic Rat]

[Level 11-15, Giant Wolf]

[Level 16-20, Berserk Bear]

[Level 21-25, Hell Hound]

'The highest levels are level 25? I don't know if I can beat them yet, but it'll be fun to try.' Mason thought as a smirk appeared on his face.

"Let's get going Remi, explain me the rules while we walk please."

"What? Didn't you listen to the teacher? Agh fine."

She started explaining for about ten minutes. Mason tried to remember important information only.

After her explanation Mason made a construction in his head on how the rules worked.

He made 2 categories, Team points and Individual points.

Team points were the points scored for the amount of beasts killed.

Beast under level 5: 1 point

Beast level 6-10: 5 points

Beast level 11-15: 20 points

Beast level 16-20: 200 points

Beast level 21-25: 1000 points

Individual points were scored after the teacher reviewed the footage on your camera, so he didn't know how that worked yet.

The reason the higher level beasts were so much more points than the lower level ones is that most students had never killed anything above level 10, it was truly exceptional if one could kill anything above level 15.

For Mason though, this was heaven. He could easily kill level 15-20 beasts. He also would be able to do a premium spin and get way stronger than he was now, at least he hoped so.

"Seems like getting first won't be so hard, there's only around five groups who will compete with us." Mason said.

"Don't underestimate them, they have way bigger groups than us. Also, it's happened before that other students attack you and taken your points. It's illegal though and if find out you can be expelled from the academy." Remi said.

Mason just smiled.

'I dare them to come attack me, that would be a lot of fun.'

Mason and Remi then started to hunt together, they already had good chemistry so the low-level beasts couldn't do anything to them.

Mason said to Remi he wanted to reach the higher level area by the evening, they would set up camp and start hunting there the next day. The dungeon was insanely big so it would take quite a while, the beasts weren't so nice to let them through either.

So far, the only spells Mason had used were Freeze and Ice Bullet, he had never needed to use anything else and he didn't want to waste mana for no reason.

Mason had already crossed the 10 000 system point mark, but he decided he would use a Premium Spin when they were done setting up camp. There weren't any dangers here anyways so he might as well.

After hunting for a couple of more hours they finally arrived in the higher-level place. They started setting up camp.

The tent they had was really convenient, it opened up automatically and they didn't have to do anything.

Mason had also grabbed a beast that was dead and started to butcher it, he was cooking tonight.

'It smells good, can he truly cook?' Remi asked herself.

Mason said he would be on guard tonight be she decided that if he did a good job, that they would split the guard time.

Thirty minutes later Mason finished preparing the beast. Remi took the first bite as her mouth was watering.

"It's delicious, how did you learn to cook this good?" She asked.

"Cooking has become a hobby of mine, it's really fun to try!" Mason answered honestly.

"Tomorrow, you're cooking again!"

Remi couldn't help herself, even the chefs in the palace weren't this good!

This wasn't because Mason was a higher grade than them, but because of the secret ingredient he used: Love.

A wise man once said: The best food is prepared when cooking for someone you love.
