The human soldiers and a few sorcerers stood a couple of meters away from the portal for days ready to attack, it didn't seem like the attack was forthcoming but it didn't stop them from holding their positions. Sarah, Brilda, and Melissa arrived at the council building as they were the trump cards the humans had to destabilize the demon advances. After the long wait, there was finally movement coming from the portal; a large troll came out from the portal and with an inswinging mace it took out the soldiers who were the closest to it; the other soldiers who were further behind sheathed their swords and with their arrows began to shoot at it but it was futile as their arrows just bounced off on contact. The mages with a combined attack used the Spina vites spell and Vines came out from the ground around the troll and tied it, in a second, large spikes from the Vines started piercing the troll spurting its purple blood all over the street after which it collapsed and died. The following minutes were quiet which made the remaining soldiers and mages more nervous, but they weren't nervous for long because two large Chimeras came out one after the other and before they could react they ran through the mages and soldiers scattering their formation; some soldiers wielded their already fallen sword and proceeded to attack the Chimeras tactically. The soldiers were fifteen in number, so they deployed seven soldiers to concentrate attacks solely on the heels of the first Chimera while another seven carried out the same attack on the other chimera; the last soldier and the six standing mages were instructed to distract both chimeras anyhow they saw fit so they wouldn't focus on the attacks on their heels. The plan was brilliant and it was working, the first seven had already severely injured the heel of the first Chimera which made it Immobile and unable to move only depending on its serpentine tail and burning breath to help it which wasn't able to do much; the second seven had already killed the other chimera by improving the plan and concentrating all their attacks on one heel while evading the tail which made it completely lose its foot leaving it immobile and they went on to strike it with their swords while evading its fiery breath and tail after which it died and turned to dust. They shook each other and celebrated their hard-earned victory but the fight was far from over; the other immobile Chimera disappeared and soldiers began running from the portal in their numbers which made the remaining human forces think it was their last fight but they were wrong.
"Oribulla" Madame Grace bellowed from behind them and a large bubble immediately swept the demon soldiers who were at the forefront charging towards them off their feet and Melissa with a curse blasted the bubble killing all of them at once.
"Neat trick, you'll teach me that later," Sarah said smiling.
"Let's survive here first," Madame Grace said smiling back at her.
"You guys have done well, go back to the council building to keep guard," Mrs. Delphine said. After the mages and soldiers that were in the battleground left, it was just five strong women against a large number army numbering almost a hundred and fifty.
"They're much more than last time," Melissa said.
"The barrier is getting weaker allowing more soldiers to come through. This access point being here despite the Inter-dimensional barrier is like a crack and that crack is slowly expanding" Brilda said.
"Isn't there a way to close it?" Melissa asked.
"There isn't. It's downhill from here and it's either we fight or we die" Mrs. Delphine said. The demon soldiers were standing waiting patiently after losing ten of their men to the surprise attack and shortly after, they began to make way for their commander who was coming through to the front line.
"Egenon!" Brilda said.
"Is that you Brilda?" Egenon asked. "I see you've allied yourself with traitors to fight a war you can't possibly win".
"This is madness and you know that; why break a peace that has been for centuries?" Brilda asked.
"I'm not sure you know but I've always hated humans, weak fragile beings, so when he decided to move against them I relished the idea," Egenon said wearing a broad smile. "There's still time ladies, surrender and I'll give you a painless death".
"I'll take your head first," Sarah said hurling a curse at him which he dodged and killed a soldier behind him.
"Kill them!" Egenon said and the small army behind him ran ahead and attacked but Sarah smiled and thought to herself;
"This will be a massacre" and with a spell, she immediately raised a large barrier making it impossible for the soldiers to attack; only a few sorcerers and sorceresses were able to levitate and luckily Sarah was one of them. She rose in the air and just above the barrier she set and bellowed "Draco igneus" and a fiery Dragon came upon the unguarded soldiers from her hand burning most of them and turning them to a crisp while the others who weren't harmed ran back towards Egenon. While Sarah was still in the air she spotted activity in the portal and she saw mages about twenty in number coming out from the portal as she observed she got distracted and didn't see the Lightening bolt Egenon shot towards her she attempted to dodge but the spell grazed her sending her falling to the ground which undid the barrier. The mages approached them hurling spells and curses at them but they blocked and reflected, prompting the demon mages to do the same; the demon mages weren't relenting as they continued their attacks but this time Mrs. Delphine using a special amplified reflection spell successfully reflected a spell to them making them bloated and unable to cast any further spells. In anger, Egenon killed them and went further to strike Mrs. Delphine on his own with a curse which Melissa blocked, immediately Mrs. Delphine tried to catch him off guard by blasting him with a spell but Egenon saw through the attack, and his other hand struck her with a temporal paralysis spell immobilizing her. The other mages continued their attacks and began exchanging spells.
"Lotumus!" Sarah bellowed and the ground beneath Egenon became muddy and solidified holding Egenon in place so he couldn't move and Brilda blasted him with an energy bolt sending him flying into the soldiers who were too useless to join the fight. Brilda stretched her hand and immediately Egenon rose from where he was and began to move towards her when he got closer she raised her hand and forcefully dropped it down sending Egenon crashing into the cobblestone ground leaving him writhing in pain. Mrs. Grace was battling it out with a demon mage but her human inferiority started to kick in as the demon mage was gaining the upper hand, after a short while of further dueling, the demon mage blasted her wand Into a corner leaving her unarmed, the mage pulled the hood he had on so Madame Grace could see the face of her killer but before he could blast her with a spell Melissa struck the demon mage with a curse killing him but at the same time she let her guard down but before the mage, she was dueling could strike her Sarah from behind put her in a chokehold and began to strangulate her but a soldier seeing Sarah's back turned shot an arrow and it pierced her back and in a few seconds her shirt was left covered in blood.
"Saname" Madame Grace muttered pointing her wand at Sarah and she instantly became healed but It was a procedure that used a lot of energy. A demon mage tried to use the same spell on Egenon but it didn't work which prompted Melissa to say;
"One of the perks of being allied with humans, is you get extra health benefits" and she went on to blast her with a bolt of Lightning as she was already too weak to use a curse. Egenon got up from where he was and with his demon gaze he looked at Madame Grace and took control of her; she located her wand and he made her use the bubble spell and it instantly picked up Sarah, Melissa, and Brilda slowly taking them up into the air. Tears came flowing from Madame Grace's eyes as she couldn't control what was happening; Egenon stretched his hand to curse the bubble and kill them but Madame Grace fell to the ground and collapsed as she had already been hit with a temporal paralysis spell from Peter who was already running towards the scene with Alice. On getting there he bellowed "ego dolorem" successfully hitting Egenon with the spell and he instantly fell to the ground writhing in pain as he twisted and turned. Another mage with her last strength tried to blast Peter but Alice used the painless death curse and killed her. Alice rushed over to her unconscious mother alongside Brilda and Melissa; the soldiers seeing that they were now up against children cowardly ran towards Peter but Mrs. Delphine who was formally laying limp on the ground got up and made the ground to ice making them lose their footing and fall to the ground. Peter stretched his other hand and with his might, he managed to put six of the fourteen soldiers on the floor under the spell Egenon was under and they began to writhe in pain also as blood quickly started running from their nostrils and ears as they were too weak to withstand the spell. The few mages who were on the ground were too worn out to cast any spell so they fled back to the portal and escaped but the soldiers weren't fortunate enough as Sarah who had already woken up used the fiery Dragon curse to burn all of them to the ground and she top fell back to the ground as she was already very weak.
After the rest had woken up Brilda asked "what do we do with Egenon?" who was now in enchanted chains.
"We'll kill him right now and send his head back to the demon realm," Sarah said.
"Isn't that barbaric?" Mrs. Delphine asked in surprise as she had never seen someone being decapitated.
"Ok then, we won't do that but we still have to get rid of him," Sarah said. Egenon who was quiet the whole time on his kneels tried lunging himself at Alice who looked the smallest but he met his demise as Peter bellowed;
"Neco!" killing him instantly.
"Well, I guess that settles that then," Sarah said and they all burst out into laughter except Peter who was just standing emotionless as he hadn't gotten used to killing people. They left for the council building to give the status report to Mr. Deschampps after which Sarah and her family left for the cottage.
