"Why did you save us?" Elena asked.
Richard paused as he seemed to ponder for a moment before he replied. "…because I felt it was the right thing to do."
"…That's it?... You placed yourself in danger just because you felt it was the right thing to do?" Elena furrowed her brows as she probed further.
One thing she hated more than people she couldn't read were those that were selfless to a fault.
Such people didn't have goals that could be manipulated to her benefit. They did things out of the goodness of their heart, making it seem as though there still existed good in the world.
This was the opposite of what she grew up with.
In the words of her mother, there were two types of people in the world.
The manipulators and the manipulated. There was no in-between and yet at this point, Richard was acting selflessly.
She grew suspicious.
"Is it strange that I would save you guys?" Richard seemed flustered by Elena's questions that were clearly showing doubt about his intentions.
