"So that's how it is," Max remarked as Lara came to the end of her tale.
He was unsure of how to respond. He could recall suggesting to Lara to leave his father a few times and seek a better life with a different man.
He wondered why she still stayed with him even though it was clear that he never really loved her.
Now he knew why and the reason… it broke his heart just by hearing it.
All this time he felt like fate had been harsh on only him but after learning about Garth's past and now Lara's own as well, he realized just how selfish he was.
How could he think that he was the only one to have suffered?... He was just one of the many that had been dealt a terrible deal by fate.
It made him wonder why. Why fate would allow the bad guys to enjoy while the good ones suffer?
Was it fair?
Of course not!
Unfortunately not many would be lucky enough to get a second chance like him. Slowly, he was finally starting to realize what path to take as he inched toward the peak.
