I Rhys Rohana, a Vampire assassin have made a terrible mistake.
Recently I was hired to kill the Queen of Vampires Ravyn, before her marriage to the Demon King. However instead of my usual gold and tavern tab, I am now running away from nearly 20 Vampires and have a cu- I mean ecstatic former vampire queen, running in toe with me. And I am still wondering why she is still alive.
I have no issue with killing marks. That is all they are marks. Nothing but padding to my pockets. I have no family name and I live in the vampires underground capital city, well the slums at least. Also being the only human here. I have done my job for as long as I can remember.
Walk in.
Get a mark.
Get out.
After I count my mark, I count the coin. Simple way of living, one blunder and I die.
So what has perplexed me the most so far is why instead of killing the cruel villainous queen who I believed wanted my head, I-I kidnap her?
Getting into her Castle was no easy task. It is a looming stalactite structure hanging in the center of the capital. Nearly one-hundred floors of the most precious golds, silvers, and rubies of the known world. The pinnacle of of gems being the Vampire queen. Her porcelain skin nearly the exact same as the moon they worship, the darkest crimson hair resting on her head, pointed ears far sharper looking than my sharpest blade, and her distinct eyes, one being blood red, the other being a piercing yellow.
The first time I saw her was on the rooftop of one of my marks. I reached out my hands and cupped around her like I was trying to catch her. The sound of leather from my gloves as I tightly clenched around her image, yet I didn't crush her. I held her image as if it were silence. The slightest fault and she'd break, until she herself broke it. Disappearing back into her castle.
However, the opportunity to get closer to her, came as a mark. The waring sides of Demons and Vampires is what has kept the human race safe. It is the camouflage that keeps the human race alive. So when the announcement of the marriage of the Vampire Queen and Demon King was announced, the inevitable extinction of the human race would have been the next historical event. Therefore the request to kill one of them was no surprise when it was posted, with a reward being the most obese nobles weight in gold.
The Hunt began.
Ignorance is sadly abundant. All those who attempted the task thought of her as prey, but in reality she was really a slumbering dragon upon her treasure horde. One after another my field of expertise grew smaller and smaller. Most tried to ambush her, some poising, some traditional with a duel, but the ambush was ambushed themselves, poison just added sweetness to her tea, and the duel being one sided. Leaving me to slay the dragon.
All feared the iron armor castle surrounding the queen. That is why there has been no attempt on her life near the castle. It is the unspoken truth, only a ghost can enter the castle, dead among dead. I however have ended my marks in their beds.
Only the worried steps of my marks pace into their home.
Only the cold breath of my mark lingers around the halls.
Only the ashes of my marks follows me out their window.
However only I Rhys Rohana, have seen the Vampire Queen weep a pool of tears.
Only I, the elite among assassins have abandon her pride for her mark.
Only I, saw the charm and beauty of my mark,
Only I, wanted to protect my mark.
No, not my mark.
Only I, wanted to protect Ravyn.
