Chapter 30 - Good Morning?

Instead of the regular nightmares that she always suffered, Ulma had instead dreamt of her dear parents that always showered her with love, although she did not remember much - she did know to have lived with them until she was about eight years old, something had happened that ate away at her memory that refused to remember no matter what.

She always had nightmares about what happened and every time she woke up in a panic from the nightmare she always forgot what exactly had happened, only the last few moments of blood and fire stained her memory every time and whenever she tried to recall anything she was plagued by incredible headaches.

But this night was different, instead of terror and pain she dreamt only of her parents tucking her in, while her mother sung her a lullaby and her father would retell stories of heroes and good little princesses that went to sleep when told too. There were also several other servants present whose faces were covered in shadows, so she didn't mind them and only enjoyed the happy times of living with her loving parents that always doted on her.

Instead of panic and pain when waking up she woke up with small tears streaming down her face, for once she could remember the dream and it made her happy and sad, why had she been blessed this night when every other night was always a plague. She suddenly realized to be clutching something in her hand and she trailed the hand she was grasping up to the arm and then the face.

Only then did she realize to be holding Samuel's hand, he was sitting really uncomfortably with his head jerking up and down in some kind of restless sleep on a chair next to her bed while holding her hand.

Her cheeks instantly flared up in a heavy blush, mostly out of anger and she gritted her teeth and quickly pulled back her hand, all her lingering thoughts on having slept well and feeling rested replaced by humiliation. "What the fuck are you doing in my room you asshole!" She screamed and punched Samuel who jerked away from her screaming giving him no time to react at all.

Samuel had quite a restless sleep, he certainly was not in a good position to sleep in so he had been only half sleeping the entire night, so he jerked away quickly when someone yelled but not quick enough to realize what was happening as he suddenly felt a fist hit his face and he fell over on the floor in an instant (chair included)

"Ow..." Samuel slurred after a while as he slowly reassembled himself from the floor, seeing Ulma stand up in outrage. "Sorry!" Samuel was too tired from the night to explain anything. So he quickly looked away from her and started going to her door. But she yanked his clothes forcing him to turn around as she got on the floor. She was normally a head shorter than him but she yanked his face down to her level and stared him in the eyes, her own eyes filled with rage.

"Explain yourself!" The intensity of her voice left no room for negotiating making Samuel sigh. "You walked down on the first floor in your sleep I took you back here and accidentally fell asleep when I sat down." Samuel was too tired to bother giving her the entire story and went with the one that was the most simple and least awkward. But Ulma still became almost purple as Samuel looked away from her again, she was aware she had sleep walked when she was small but not in a long time since then from what she was aware.

She let go of his clothes and essentially kicked him out of her room by pushing him with her leg and then she slammed the door closed really hard, Samuel just stumbled away looking forward to his own bed, and thats when he realized at what stage the sun was at.

With a sigh and yawn he went and made himself a sandwich and packed his things. All the girls shortly joined him in quick breakfast under silence and were all prepared to leave. "What happened to you?" Erica asked Samuel as she looked at his face. "Did you sit up all night studying?" Sonya finished the question on Erica's lips. Samuel sighed and nodded, "Yeah I completely forgot the time and when I went to sleep it was only about an hour left." He quickly lied because he did not want to get beaten up.

Ulma stared forward trying her best not to show any reactions. "Meanwhile miss princess here looks like she rested for a week!" Erica said and looked at Ulma with a smile. "Yep! I had a pretty good sleep." Ulma replied nonchalantly and got her things to leave for class still in a pretty bad mood. Erica looked at Sonya who just shrugged.

"Well we should get going as well!" Sonya yawned and got her things, followed by Erica and last to leave was Samuel who was a tired wreck that still kept advancing forward, at the end they all arrived at the classroom where the professor was waiting for them on time, he quickly clapped his hands to get everyones attention. "Today its time to put theory to the test and see which of you has studied enough to grasp the first level of spells! Follow me!" Professor Leipeg said and started leading the class to one of the training halls.

The walk was short and they eventually found themselves inside an indoor huge hall, most things were made out of cobblestone in the hall, and there were plenty of scorch or burn marks on walls, it was large enough to fit at least 200 people, but the students and their mentors who arrived shortly after only formed about 65 people together, which left many with comfortable room.

"Today we are going to train three basic spells!" Professor Leipeg said as he got everyones attention again. A small target dummy was placed about 10 meters away from him.

The professor quickly chanted two or three words and formed a small fire burst with his hand, much like the one Erica had used in their duel. "That was the first spell! A basic fire blast!" Leipeg nodded to make sure everyone understood.

"The second spell is not necessary for everyone to achieve today but it is a bonus." Leipeg chanted a few words but the energy that filled his palms were instead filled with life magic, he quickly put his hands on the dummy and the energy filled the dummy and the energy put out all the flames instantly. "The first and most basic of healing spells. A healing touch." Leipeg took a step back.

"Finally for the third spell of today is to conjure a basic magical shield!" Leipeg motioned for a mentor to help demonstrate. The mentor shot a basic fireblast real quick and Leipeg instantly on cue casted a shield with a handsign, a small shimmer surrounded him like a bubble and it warded off the fireblast.

"Offense, Utility and Defense. Only offense and defense spells are necessary to pass. Since not everyone is able to use healing magic. Healing magic mostly comes to those with strong connections to the earth or have the blessings of a deity. Which is why you know how clerics are the most competent healers out there. I dare say we might have a cleric or two among you candidates." Leipeg whiffed his hand and several target dummies started appearing, two for each student. With plenty of space in between them it would be quite a safe practice, especially with all their mentors present.

Samuel sighed in his tired state and looked at the dummies, his teammates were all practically next to eachother with the safe space between the targets separating them. "Here goes nothing!" Samuel whispered as he got in position.
