As I lay in bed, ready to go to sleep a nurse with a soothing voice hums as she puts the last injection into the IV drip. Her name was Helena and she had been my nurse for the last 3 years, I had become such good friends with her just like I had with every other person in the hospital. Having friends and building good bonds is second nature for an extrovert. When my family stopped visiting me 2 years ago these people were all I had, no, they were all I had the moment I stepped foot in this hospital. I'm pretty sure my family will be relieved when I'm finally gone, a sick good for nothing daughter that sucks up all their money on treatments. I looked at Helena one last time, her eyebrows furrowed and her eyes filled with sorrow while she looked at me.
"Thank you so much for everything Helena. I can't tell you how happy I am to have met you all." I quietly spoke.
"Don't speak as if you're going to die! I love you to bits and pieces."
"Ahahah I love you too. I'm keeping you to myself for too long, good night Helena."
"I'm going to stay because that's my job for tonight. Good night, Merlin." She said softly and pecked my forehead as I lay in bed to go to sleep. A long, eternal sleep....
Or I was supposed to, instead here I am standing in someone else's body as a maid dresses me. The very maid who just yelled at me for possessing her body and is now dressing me as though she is a completely different person. I don't know what to make of the situation, I tried my best to seem as though I was the noble lady they knew but I didn't even know my Full. Name.
I stepped into the room and looked around once again. Beautiful marble walls and layers of curtains on the windows and bed. A study table and bookshelf occupied a corner of the room and a dressing table was placed opposite the study corner. There was a door next to the dressing table which looked like a walk-in closet. A wonderful and simple room and it isn't mine.
Holly went to call the other maids so I went to the dressing table and saw my reflection, dirty blonde hair with gem-like hazel eyes and a fair, healthy body that wasn't weak with a disease. This isn't my body and this definitely isn't the world I remembered. I knew that I was going to die but I didn't know I would go into another person's body. I would believe the maid but she acted so differently in such little time, maybe she has a split personality? If I told the kind Holly, that I had possessed her Lady's body would she believe and help me? I hope Margaret has a journal then I could fake being her properly.
If what crazy Holly said was right then I have to do my best to protect myself and this body. I can't risk being in danger due to some crazy phenomenon that makes no sense. I wanted to enjoy being in a healthy body after such a long time. Holly returned with the maids and started dressing me.
I wore a beautiful fully-sleeved green dress with puffing shoulders and my hair was tied up with a cute hat on top. It looked a lot like the morning dresses from the late 1800s, maybe I wasn't in a different world but instead went to the past?
"Holly, what is the date today?" I asked carefully to not slip my speech.
"It is the 8th of Hempler, 10098 My lady."
"Ah, thank you."
'HUH!?! What was THAT YEAR???' I guess crazy Holly was right about blessings and curses and all that jazz. I really AM in a different world.
"My lady, you've never said thank you. Are you okay?" She whispered to me concerned.
"Oh no, I'm- I am perfectly fine, just a slip of tongue. Let us go for breakfast. Do I have anything to do today?"
"Yes My lady, a lunch at the Hoolagan's and tea-time with lady Ethel, lady Sarafin, and lady Laboner."
Pfft, Laboner?? Hoolagan?? You have GOT to be kidding me.' I don't think I can speak to these people without laughing. As we arrived at the dining hall I saw a man sitting there, in his mid-50s with tidy gray hair and green eyes, looking at me as though I was the love of his life. 'Oh my god is this my husband? Did we get married to an old man???'
"Good morning Margaret. How is my lovely sunshine doing?" He greeted me sweetly.
"Good morning. I am great, how about you?" I greeted taking a seat 'aaaAAAAAAH! WHO is this man????'
"What? No morning kiss on the cheek for your father?"
"Oh! Of course! How could I forget?" 'I have GOT to find a journal of this girl's.'
We sat and I followed my father's moves to eat breakfast, while I did remember proper dining etiquette I didn't want to screw up since I'm literally in a different world. Breakfast was a salad and some bread with delicious cream. I bid my father goodbye as he went to his office room and made my way back to my room.
"Holly, girls, I would like to be alone while I do some reading so don- do not bother me unless something dire happens understood?"
I closed the door and ran to the bookshelf because my life depended on it. Thank god I could make sense of the writing. I opened every book and flipped through every page.
"Come on, Come on. There must be SOME-thing! You're telling me a noble lady who has nothing better to do doesn't have a journal!?"
I rummaged through the drawer and tapped everywhere for a secret place where a diary might have been kept. UGH! NOTHING!
I looked up at the ceiling, clasped my hands, and whispered "If you really are a ghost with no legs who is the owner of this body PLEASE PLEASE tell me where your journal is!" And now we wait.....
It's been 10 minutes and nothing happened. I KNEW that crazy Holly was delusional. I sighed and picked up a book from the table "History of Transerin by Pitch Cobbler" 'Heheh pitch cobbler. Why not just name him peach cobbler.' I took a seat and opened the book when Holly opened the door.
"Holly! did something happen?" I got up trying to hide all the books I had taken out while pretending to be worried.
"EVERY-one knows you don't keep your journals in your room and instead in an unused store room," crazy Holly said rolling her eyes with the journals in her hands.
"OH MY GOD! CRAZY HOLLY! You DID hear me!"
"CRAZY HOLLY?!"
"I can't say your Margaret because I'M Margaret," I say snatching the books.
"Well, NO ONE will belive you are Margaret with that etiquette and speech." She snatched the books back. Oh, this won't end well.
