Chereads / The tale of Marlene Hendrix / Chapter 6 - True Alpha

Chapter 6 - True Alpha

I wake up to a phone call. I was still so tired that I didn't even sit up I just used my hand to feel around for my phone on my nightstand. I answered the phone without looking at the caller ID.

"Hello?" I answer groggily

"Whatschoolareyougoingto?" Harper asked really fast. Too fast that my half asleep mind couldn't catch up.

" What?" I said still laying flat in my bed exhausted.

"I said, What school are you going to?"

"Cabrini why? And why are you calling so early?"

"Uh ok, 1. because I need to make sure we are going to the same school. And 2. girl it's 1:23 in the afternoon." That made me roll my eyes and look at the time. Wow, it really is 1:23 pm.

"Anyways, that's all I wanted you for, love you bye!" I just look at my phone. She called, woke me up from my wonderful slumber, just to ask what school I'm going to, when school doesn't start for another week and a half?! That girl is gonna be the death of me, doing unessceary things.

I just decide to get up and get ready for the day since, I'm already awake. When I'm done I walk down stairs and walk into the kitchen. As I'm going along with my day something doesn't feel right.

"Hello dear did you sleep well." My grandfather asked me

"Yes gramps." He handed me a plate of pancakes, eggs and bacon. "Thank You!" I said as I walked away from him.

Little did I know he knew something I didn't.

-Aaron's POV-

"Do you think she knows?" Mary asked after Mari went to bed and Mary told me the whole situation.

"I have no clue."

"She can't find out."

"She's gonna find out eventually dear. It's her destiny." I reminded her

"I know but it shouldn't have to be her. She's just a kid, she can't be burdened with all this!" I nodded agreeing with her.

"But that's the harsh realities of it dear. It's going to happen whether we protect her or not, wether we like it or not. Believe me I wish I could take her away from all th nasty and bad things in the world, but, that's just not possible."

"We can hold it back as long as we can though."

"Dear-" I said trying to stop her but she wouldn't let me. She trapped me in the room and put up a barrier spell with her magic.

"Mary!" I shouted as she walked down the hall way.

"MARY DON'T!" I tried again as she walked into Marlene's bed room. I knew exactly what she was about to do. She's going to suppress her supernatural abilities. And don't get me wrong I understand why she did it but that doesn't mean I agree. She is talking away part of our granddaughter. A part that she doesn't know if she likes, dislikes, wants no part of or is excited about. I should be up to her not anyone else and Mary is taking those decisions away.

You see, we come from a long bloodline of Alphas. To give you more context that's basically a regular werewolf but all the pros and cons of being a wolf is enhanced. The speed, the healing, the sight, the smell, the sounds. And don't get me started on the feelings. Some are euphoric others... not so much. There are good and bad attributes to all things. With the healing fatigue, sensory overloads, and the excruciating pain.

Alphas are suppose to lead the pack and every wolf around them. They're suppose to care for and protect the ones that will do the same and fight for the pack. Marlene is the Alpha that they talk about in the old folklore the elders use to tell the kids at night. The Beautiful and brave young wolf from the Alpha line that will come one day and protect us from the coming evil. The True Alpha. With her being more than one supernatural entity they believed that Marlene is suppose to solve all our problems.

Mary is a witch, a strong one at that. Those powers passed from our daughter to her daughter making her daughter, Mari, one of the most powerful beings ever. You may ask, 'If Mari is so powerful, and the same type of supernatural as her mom why wasn't her mom the 'True Alpha?' Well, that's the thing they aren't, Aria, my daughter, is part witch and part Alpha, making her a hybrid of the two species. Marlene's father is a dragon, making Marlene Alpha, witch and dragon. A triple threat.

The legend says that when the Alpha girl transitions into a True Alpha there are steps to the transition. The true Alpha will now have a mental link with the ancestors instead of the normal blue shine from a regular Alpha's eyes. The True Alpha will have purple.

Aria was suppose to leave for the full moon and come back, she was suppose to go out to find a way to stall the transition or even better, stop it. But, she never did and we never found her, alive or dead.

Mary eventually came back and I couldn't even lookout her. I love her I do but just because you love someone doesn't mean you always free with their actions or even thoughts. She lifted the spell.

"Aaron.." She said sighed seeing my expression. "It had to be done." She tried to reason.

"I'm going to bed, goodnight dear." I said not saying a word and just walking out of the room back to our bed room.

As I was walking back I peeked into Mari's room. She looks so peaceful, if she knew she wouldn't be anywhere near peaceful. She would be furious. Marlene has always been an advocate for people making their own choices. She can't find out now, she can't. I can't lose her too.

I go to bed and wake up the next morning and walk downstairs. I do a couple chores and then get breakfast ready for everyone. It was a late breakfast since no one was awake yet. As I was preparing the plates Mari walks downstairs. I can barely look her in the eye.

"Hello dear, did you sleep well?" I say acting like a normal morning. She can't suspect anything.

"Yes, gramps." She replies. I hand her the plate and she smiles saying thank you. God how are we going to keep this from her.
