Chapter 4 - Senior Year Experience

Life as a newbie in a new school in senior year can be so burdensome, annoying and depressing. The idea of switching school when you are close to the finish line is quite desolate, one could only think about meeting new faces, friends and tutors without considering the vices, bully and verbal abuses you might likely face.

Louisa had to wait for the next session to begin at Prestige schools before she could resume. On resumption, senior year commenced which meant a lot of focus and hard work.

I was treated as a real newbie.Gina always came to my defense. The only reason why nobody knew about my family background was because each morning they would see us come from the same route, using the same vehicle;sometimes a chauffeur would drop us in a limousine, somedays BMW and sometimes a Mercedes Benz. Some of the students thought we were siblings while the others believed we were just related in a way.

Shortly after I began studying at Prestige schools ,some of the nosy students tried running a background check on me because I and Gina's surnames were no match.

Unfortunately, their findings had bad effects on me.They constantly tortured ,harassed, bullied me and even made mockery of my mother. I seldom responded or fought back because of the idea of being thrown out of school if any of the rich kids made a bad statement about me.

On the very day they dragged my mothers name through the mud,I got very furious, I wanted to fight back but Gina wouldn't let me,she promised to handle things aptly which she later did.

Our friendship got a lot of people talking about us because we were never apart,we literally did everything together. Gina sat next to me in class, we were both studying science, visiting the library each leisure time was fun, using the cafeteria for lunch even when we weren't hungry increased our excitement because that was the only way to get back at those bullies,we usually made faces at them especially the pudgy ones as a sign for them to reduce the quantity of food they ate.

Gina and I made promises to each other on a Friday afternoon during our leisure at school,

"Louisa! Gina called out.

"What do you think about this?"Gina said

"Think about what?"I asked.

"I don't want us messing around like the other kids do at school, can we have our blue print?"Gina said.

"What's the blue print about?"I asked

"Not male friends,no boyfriends till after college,no sex till after college,no ditching of studies, no parties,no clubs, and the likes of it"Gina listed.

"Ok Gina,I am all up for this " I said sharply.

My response was quite instantaneous.I agreed to these principles without a second thought because the idea was great for any teenager to subscribe to.

The head prefect at Prestige Schools,Pete, was too lazy to be active when the school had matters arising,he actually paved way for his subordinates to hang around doing nothing while the Assistant head prefect, Jill, was too great to be Pete's assistant. Jill's personality made everyone admire her,she led the school with an iron fist ,she showed no mercy to defaulters. I recall how she handled a situation at school when two rivals were fighting over who's better. I personally complimented her ability because it wasn't easy to deal with these students especially those spoilt brats from wealthy homes.

I often wondered why Gina was different from all of them. She never bullied nor fought with anyone for any reason. The discrepancy in Gina's character was a direct opposite to what majority exuded at Prestige Schools. Gina's was too affectionate towards me. She constantly gifted me things, gave me money various times and would still take me to the mall whenever she wanted to go shopping after school.

The day Sam and I met was like a fairy tale, I

Was facing difficulties with my health which I couldn't explain. I knew I needed medical a attention but I kept ignoring. When it got so serious that I could barely remember things, I knew I needed to tell someone. I first told Mrs Fiona ,she retorted that I should immediately visit the clinic for professional help, she handed me some money to sort myself out.

On arrival at the hospital, I was directed to where I could meet the receptionist,

"How May I help you?" a skinny lady asked over the counter.

"I came to book an appointment with the doctor,I have been unstable lately" I said in a mild tone.

"What's the nature of your instability?" She asked again.

I started explaining how I have had constant migraine, eye pain, fever and cramps everywhere, forgetfulness, amongst others.

As I laid my complaint she scripted it and later issued a pink card after I made payment . She had asked me to sit with the rest until it was my turn to see the doctor.

I sat there for almost an hour beside a middle aged woman. I heard my name being called from behind,I stood up immediately as I was asked to use the next office by my left.

The moment I stepped into the office, the woman, whom I learnt was the Doctor's Secretary directed me to sit on a chair adjacent to the doctor before she stepped out. However, the consultation went smooth. After which the doctor asked me to wait till he was done with his afternoon shift. I began wondering if anything was wrong with me or I just needed extra care .

The doctor walked up to where I was standing outside the a hospital building , close to where a little garden was made with different tree plants.

"Hey,Louisa"he said

"I'm sorry to keep you waiting,as I told you earlier,I am Doctor Sam,you can call me Sam. I..I… I want…I..he began stuttering .

"Are you okay", I asked curiously

"Little miss Louisa, I want you to get well soon, you're too young to be depressed because that's what I found out from your report. You have to get the right medication for your health. Don't forget your next appointment.Have a good day." Sam said and walked out.

I didn't understand what was going on,Was he so concerned about me?

But why? I asked myself.

Two days after I left the hospital was my next appointment. Sam had already singled my file out without asking his secretary to assist him. He was anticipating my coming.

He had described my looks to his secretary, Tonia, asking that I should be summoned to his office on arrival.

"Hello Miss Louisa, your file is already on the doctors desk, it's time for your appointment",Tonia said calmly.

I became a little nervous by the Secretary's hospitality. Was it a mistaken identity? I thought in my head.

"Please, this way! "the secretary retorted stretching her hands across her breast to show where I should follow.

I shrugged and followed her direction.

Sonia left me at the Doctor's office door.

I walked inside the office and sat at the same spot, adjacent to Doctor Sam. He began smiling and asking about my health,

"How's your health?" He asked

"Are they any improvement?" Sam asked again.

"Yes Doctor" I said smiling

By this time, the headaches and pains had subsided, I could feel my whole busy being active again.

He stood up immediately, walked up to where I was sitting and said;

"Your smile is quite contagious, i must say you are the most Gorgeous creature I have seen in my entire life".

He made an attempt to kiss me, I couldn't resist. Yes, we shared a kiss.

Our love journey began after that day, I couldn't tell anyone, not even Gina. Sam and I met each day after school outside of my house. He drove me to the hospital sometimes whenever he had work to do, he wanted to have me around always.
