Chapter 33 - Chapter 33

Being a vampire had its perks. I compelled the guy I hired to check things out and not to tell anyone but me what he'd found out. He could be my eyes and ears since I couldn't go out during the day or get close to the wolves. He got some excellent information for me. It seems Jacob was not only a nuisance to me but to wolves in general. It turns out that Jacob had a feud with a neighboring pack. Yes, Jacob was bad news all the way around.

Not only had he poached members of the neighboring pack, but he had also moved onto their territory as far as his businesses. Some of his pack members were drug dealers, which was not allowed in the White Moon packs territory. Jacob's people had been selling drugs there for a long time. The neighboring Alpha had warned Jacob that he would continue to kill his people if he found them, but Jacob hadn't reigned them in. Every once in a while, he would have his enforcer do something as an example, but then he would let it go after that because it brought him more money. Nicholas had threatened an all-out war if Jacob did not start acting like an Alpha and controlling his pack.

I also looked into Nicholas, a born werewolf, and Alpha. He ran his pack off of loyalty and respect. Jacob ran his off of fear. Jacob's pack lived in different areas of his territory. He didn't reign them in when things happened. All he did was have his enforcer punish them if they did something that may reveal wolves to the human world. Nicholas was strict on how he ran his pack, but he was a fair man. He had legitimate businesses that his wolves worked at.

I did a lot of research into this as I was going to ask Nicholas for his help. I knew I couldn't take Jacob and the entire pack on by myself. However, if I had some help, then maybe they could be taken down. I honestly didn't think that most of Jacob's pack wanted to fight. Looking into them, most were just ordinary people who had been attacked and survived. They were trying to live normal lives and forget that side of themselves. It seems that Jacob's pack likes to play with people rather roughly and caused most of them to change. Some were killed, but if the wolves liked the one they clawed up, they would keep them hidden and help them learn control. They weren't given a choice on if they wanted to be a werewolf or not.

My hired hand had found where Nicholas lived. I paid him handsomely for his work and compelled him to forget everything he had discovered. I only had a few days left before Dominique returned, so I went to Nicholas's home and knocked on the door. I flew up onto the roof and waited. When Nicholas had come to the door, he smelled me through it. I knew he would. I heard Nicholas walking through his house, and my lips twitched as I tried not to smile. I heard the back door open softly. It was faint, but I heard his paws moving across the ground. I watched as he came around the side of the house in wolf form.

"No need for that, wolf," I said, eyeing him from the roof.

Nicholas looked around and then up as I whistled. He growled at me. It was getting harder not to smile. These young pups didn't have half the strength I had. I had lived a long time and learned how to fight in every style imaginable. They just had brute strength, claws, and teeth. Granted, they could kill me by sunlight or burst my heart, so I still needed to be careful. I slowly stood and put my hands up. I jumped off the roof and landed on my feet, away from Nicholas. Nicholas snarled at me.

"While your fangs are impressive, I have my own," I said as I bared my fangs back at Nicholas. "Now, I would like to get to the matter of why I came here. It was not to start a fight with you but give you a proposition. I know you are in a feud with Jacob of the Bad Moon pack. I, too, am in somewhat of a predicament with him."

Nicholas changed back into a man and looked at me as he said, "I'm listening."

"I threaten Jacob because of what I am. I have done nothing wrong to him other than to defend the woman I love. His pack member tried to attack her. She is human. I broke the bitch's wrist, which, as you know, can heal rather easily. It was a simple warning to back off. Unfortunately, this warning was not headed but started a feud between Jacob and me. He is coming after me, and while I may be able to take him, I can not take the entire pack alone. One of his pack members is in love with the human woman I am after. He wishes to protect her, and he is failing."

"Jacob wants him to bring her over against her will. I would like to propose that your pack joins me in the fight. Most of Jacob's pack are ordinary people that want to lead ordinary lives. They don't want to fight, but he makes them. He is a tyrant unlike yourself. I have checked into you and have found you are a fair Alpha to your pack. If we destroy Jacob, you can take over his pack or put another Alpha over his pack if you so choose."

"So, you and a wolf are both in love with the same woman?" Nicholas asked as he laughed.

"Yes. Although, I do not find it in the least bit funny." I replied dryly.

"And because of a woman, Jacob is in a quarrel with you? I knew he was a stupid son of a bitch but all that over a woman? Jesus, it's no wonder his pack isn't worth a shit. He will find anything and everything to start a fight over. He thinks the rules don't apply to him. You don't bring someone over without their permission. If you can't control them, then our secret could be out. We don't allow you to bring anyone over in this pack. You are born of the wolves already in it. Someone will mate with a normal human and have a baby every once in a while but not often."
