Chapter 7 - 7. Sunday

**

'Hey love, happy Sunday. Where is your man, Jake?' Karen called out to Janet from a distance on sighting her at the entrance of the church door.

Janet was dressed in a flowing sleeveless white gown rocking it with a matching white shoe and bag. The bible she held on her right hand had the same color with her dress, the only thing that wasn't matching with her outfit was her hair and skin. She looked more like a bride walking down the aisle, her beauty was shockingly stunning today.

Janet turned towards her friend as she heard her voice.

Karen couldn't help but stare at her friend, looking around her searching for Jake. Janet and Jake made it an important aspect in their relationship to always show up in church together every Sunday.

'Where is Jake?' She asked again

'His not coming today, something urgent came up this morning. He said it was work' Janet replied with a beaming smile.

'You look really stunning today' Karen commented on her friend's look as she returned the smile with a perplexed look. 'Today Jake isn't around , you decided to dress up like a bride, please where is the groom?' she added with a slight cough, trying so hard to hold back the laugh.

'That cough will choke you there ' Janet said laughing. 'Well, I just decided to dress this way. Does it look that bad? because I have been getting different stares' she added .

'No love, you look just perfect. I hope you don't have plans to seduce the pastor because I will personally make sure you sit at the back.' They both laughed at the statement and walked into the church graciously .

The usher who stood at the door stared at the both of them with a condemning look .

Janet's dress was gracious and long but it exposed her cleavage a little but much for a Sunday outfit while Karen's dress showed much of her thighs, it was skimpy and clung to her , making her boobs look very firm and attractive.

If looks could kill, Karen and Janet would have been dead by now. The usher kept on staring at them making them feel so uncomfortable.

'No hair-tie?' The usher questioned them with a frowning face. she was dressed in a long skirt and a tucked-in purple long sleeve. Her beret was firmly fixed on her head giving out a Christian aura and 'don't mess around with me'.

Silence hung round the space for a few seconds before the sound of the instrument changed the whole environment as members hurriedly walked to their seats.

Karen cleared her throat slightly

'We will just sit at the back' she said giving off a forced smile to the usher as she dragged Janet whose gaze was fixed on the usher's face, looking like it was about to peel her skin.

They walked to the back seat and sat down.

The usher walked to them and offered the both of them white handkerchiefs to cover their head. Janet took it from her and gave the other one to Karen. They both covered their head and bowed their head saying a word of prayer.

'Omemma, you have done enough for me

Omemma, you have done enough for me

My Jesus

omemma oh

Good Jesus..

Jesus you are good , you have done it all, you are good' The choir sang in union as everyone stood up and sang along with them .

The pastor approached the pulpit and Janet blushed. Karen stared at her friend unable to alter a word

Pastor James cleared his throat and smiled at the audience 'Good-morning brothers and sisters, you are welcome to today's service . As you have honored today and honored God, God will honor you and you shall find favor in the sight of God and man....'

Pastor James was neatly dressed in a blue suit and a well polished black leather shoe.

Pastor James, who is in his early 40's still looked very young, like he was in his early 20's. He still had a very charming look with a well shaved beards, he could pass as a model.

'Why is this guy a pastor?' Janet whispered to Karen

'You could actually walk straight up to him and ask him. He will be in a better position to give you an answer' Karen replied

'Am not sure God called him. I am very sure his sleeping around with the choir ladies maybe his even sleeping with that 'Over-holy' usher' Janet said with a smirk on her face.

'Haba na, don't say that about a man of God. Have the fear of God Janet' Karen whispered to her friend .

'Let's make a bet , I will make a pass at him and if he wants to smash me, I will get the bet but if he rejects my pass, you win' Janet said

Karen covered her friend's mouth and she looked at her with a disgusted look 'How will you say that here. Watch it'

Janet removed her friend's hand from her mouth and noticed that Karen wasn't happy as a result of her statement

She gently shoved Karen's shoulder and stared at her with a baby-like face

'Okay, I am sorry. I shouldn't have said it.'

Karen didn't respond to that

'I am sorry. smile for me' she tickled Karen

'Heyyy, we are in church' Karen replied trying so hard not to laugh out loud. 'It's fine, let's just concentrate ' she added as she drew Janet closer to her.

'....Cast all your anxiety to God for he is ready to take care of all your burdens. Put God first before any other thing for the kingdom of God is near...' Pastor James kept on preaching

'I need to cast you and Mr. Mark to God cos you guys are my burdens ' Karen said to Janet

Janet smiled at her and said 'You can't do without the both of us, you know that right? but you can actually cast Ken to God'

Karen couldn't hold her laugh as she laughed out loud. A lady beside her stared at her with a frown.

'....let's share the grace' Pastor James said .

That was the next thing Karen and Janet heard as they were busy chit chatting during the service.

The usher walked towards them after the grace was shared, they gave her the handkerchief back with a smile.

'Time to walk up to the pastor' Karen said to her friend

'Oh stop it, Do you want Jake to kill me?' she replied laughing

'So your thinking about Jake now' Karen responded .

'I always think about him' Janet replied.

'I need to work with that 'ITK' KEN . Guyyyyy, I don't want to work with him but I don't have a choice. This deal means bigger money for the company ,you know' Karen said to Janet as they walked out of the church

'If he gets on your nerves again, just give him a knock on that his pot belly and say hello to his invisible baby' Janet replied.

'Mr. Mark is one annoying human being. Can you imagine this man called around 10pm to start working on the deal, like won't I rest? don't that man have conscience?' She said as she brought out her car keys to open her car.

Janet pecked Karen on her cheek 'Babes, you will do just fine. I am sure of that and just a friendly reminder, I am coming over this evening so prepare dinner for me. I love you' she walked towards her own car before Karen replied.

'This girl again'! she shouted after her as she

watched Janet drive off before she got into her car and zoomed off.
