Hello and welcome. I will update this review when the novel has more chapters. Now that the book has completed its first month on Webnvl, I will try to explain what it is all about without giving away any spoilers.
It follows the journey of Viktor Vladimir AKA Eren Idril, who finds himself in a different place with different values and beliefs after his reincarnation into a different body.
INFIO depicts a fantastical and dystopian Earth that is different from its current reality because of the introduction of mana. Humanity is divided into multiple fronts. And those who can harness mana (rankers) are at the top of the food chain.
Almost immediately after the mana was reintroduced to humanity, the Earth underwent a drastic change. The human race now focuses on discovering and cultivating other worlds called Numbered Oases. Each known world is considered an Oasis that houses various human rankers.
The start of the story feels closer to the Cyberpunk genre because of the period it has been set in. The storyline progresses towards its litRPG-like aspects after the 64th chapter. That's when Eren enters a numbered oasis, a world away from Earth.
INFIO's Eren Idril has been shaped by his dire circumstances. The first 50 chapters are used as a foundation for the storyline as well as to make readers understand where he comes from.
Writing quality: INFIO would be easy to read and relate to for most readers because of the simple sentence constructions. There might be a few stray ATD (Attention to detail) errors that I failed to iron out because I couldn't spot them. However, they shouldn't hamper your readability.
Story Development: INFIO takes its time to unravel the wider universe it is hiding under its premise. The story starts fairly slowly as it paints a clear picture for readers. The plot picks up pace after chapter 64 when Eren enters a different world.
The story is divided into an overarching plot that is connected with multiple small plots in various ways. Eren has two lives. His life in another world as well as his life back on Earth. The story would focus on these two lives intermittently. Kinda like a story with VR elements, except for the fact that the worlds he is getting into are not game worlds.
Character designs: The story uses details and emotions to make the reader understand the characters' overall situation. INFIO's Eren Idril is an anti-hero at his core with a few self-imposed boundaries. Reading the first 50 chapters would give us a fair idea about how he deals with the situation he was forced to be part of.
Even with the supposedly powerful gift, Eren is not invincible. If you came here looking for the main character who speed-runs through obstacles, you'd be disappointed. But if you are here looking for a cold and calculative MC to take on his challenges with absolute prudence, this book will appeal to you.
Updating stability: 14 chapters per week + bonus releases if and when possible.
World Background: INFIO will feature a myriad of world backgrounds ranging from worlds with typical fantasy settings to Eastern fantasy as Eren travels to those worlds.Â
The Cons:
1) Not a system story even though it has the Status Screen after the 64th chapter.
2) Not a harem-centric story even though Eren will get intimate with a lot of women.
3) The RPG elements of the plot kick in after the 64th chapter.
4) No OP MC.
5) There might be a few grammatical errors that I inadvertently skipped to correct.
The Pros:
1) No info-dumps of character attribute sheets.
2) No skirt-chasing MC.
3) A never-seen-before approach to the litRPG genre and integration of real-life concepts that become apparent after the first 50 chapters.
4) Some aptly placed modern-life references to lighten the mood while ensuring that they don't break the immersion.
5) No overpowered protagonist that just messes up every higher power he could mess with. He is committed to using his gift wisely while ensuring his interests are not harmed in the process.
6) Well-crafted power structure and paths to power and magic; serving as the base for character classes.Â
If you've read my novel Vile Evil Hides Under The Veil (VEH), then you must be familiar with the name Eren Elijah Idril. The reason for that is simple– the two stories are part of the same multiverse and are linked.
However, there's no need to read VEH if you haven't already. The concepts explained in INFIO will be familiar to those who have read VEH up to its latest chapters. As such, they would be able to connect with the story on a deeper level. However, INFIO is a standalone book at its core and should be seen as such for the most part.
INFIO's uniqueness becomes apparent the further one reads. The story is still in its initial phase as I'm writing this review. So I'll refrain from commenting on what else might be added in the future. That's it. See you in the latest chapters soon. ;)
