Chapter 10 - THEY Aren't Limited By Mortals (Rewrite)

"Strangely enough, your adaptation takes time."

Hikari was continuously cutting the wolf to see if the healing factor was quick. It wasn't. Even the burns from earlier still lingered. Seems like whoever created this thing wasn't that good yet. All the more easier for humanity to dispatch of them in the future then.

"That should be enough for now-" Hikari yawned before he was caught off guard by a strong gust of wind. Then he felt it. His right arm felt numb. Or rather…

It was missing.

Almost immediately, all of the greenery around them died down due to the excessive amounts of Celest being released by Hikari's stump. He looked unbothered however. Unlike a mental strain caused by his Gift, physical pain like this is numb to him.

"So you know how to use Drifter skills? Or is it because the one who created you made you to combat Drifters?" Hikari only sighed as he snapped his right hand. The wolf was about to move but multiple chains suddenly appeared out of miniature rifts, holding the wolf in place. It could only watch in horror as Hikari crouched down and grabbed his cut arm…

And placed it back.

Steam exited the cut and just a second later, the cut arm was moving again. He unsummoned his guns as he looked at the wolf with dull eyes. "You're dangerous if that's the case."

Hikari clapped his hands and as he parted them, flames had now formed. However, these weren't blue nor orange. They were pitch black. The flames formed into a bow and as Hikari pulled the bowstring back, a black flame arrow formed. "This is a sure kill. Be honored, you're the first one to get hit with this one."

Then he released it. The arrow soared through the air and once it hit the wolf, it was as if the wolf was sucked into another dimension.

And just like that, the huge threat was gone. This time Hikari didn't resort to using his gift since that will completely drain him. Instead he just opted to use something he came up with on the spot. He couldn't put his finger on it, but ever since he escaped, it felt as if he got stronger more and more while also gaining unknown abilities.

In truth, he actually didn't know that those flames did that. He planned to just kill the wolf with his normal cremating flames but somehow it turned to that black flame. Not to mention the time where he spoke words he didn't even know nor wanted to say. As if another being was coexisting inside of him…

"Halt!"

Hikari turned around, already expecting the incoming ARMY of armored servants headed towards him. Hikari whistled, "seeing" the amount of Celest they had. All of them were B-Ranks and some were even high end A-Ranks. Based on the Lion symbol on their badge, he could already tell who they work for.

"Hm? What is it?"

"What happened here? And don't lie, we have someone who can use [Detection: Lie]."

'Damn, that's quite the rare talent. The [Detect] series is quite the hard Drifter skill school to learn… Luckily I don't need it.'

"The humanoid-wolf Rift Beast appeared. I have determined its classification already…" Hikari then looked at them seriously. "It's a Disaster Rank."

The servants all looked alarmed at this, after all, a Disaster Rank is the second most dangerous kind of Rift Beast. The ranking is as follows:

Cyclone

Earthquake

Tornado

Tsunami

Disaster

Calamity

It might sound confusing since technically all of those are disasters, but the Disaster Rank is given to Rift Beasts who can wipe a country or other special cases. For example, a humanoid that has Drifter Skills. Hikari himself is classified as a Calamity rather than an S-Rank due to obvious reasons. In actuality, a Calamity Rank Rift Beast is actually stronger than an S-Rank Drifter. The values are as follows

Cyclone Rank can be killed by anyone with mild difficulty and easily if D-Rank. Earthquake Rank can be killed by anyone within D and C Rank. Tornado Rank can be killed by anyone within C Rank and B Rank. Tsunami Rank can be killed by anyone within B and A Rank. However the last two are different… Disaster Rank can only be killed by two to three S-Ranks. As for Calamity Rank…Goodluck.

"Where is it then?" One of the servants asked. Looking at him, Hikari could tell he was different from the others. He was stronger, more confident, and somehow, more kind. He couldn't really tell, it was just how his eyes looked at him.

"Dead. I had to kill it." Once more, gasps rang out throughout the surroundings. Of course it would. This was unheard of after all. A teen killing a Disaster Rank Rift Beast! "Anyways, can I come with you? Amelia invited me earlier after all."

"...He's not lying. It really was Disaster Rank… and he really did kill it…" The one who could use [Detection: Lie] said. That basically gave him a free pass to do whatever he wanted. After all, what could they all do to someone who could solo a Disaster Rank?

The stronger servant sighed and gestured for Hikari to follow him, the other servants following suit. The servant could only wonder what people would think when they saw the black and white patch in the forest. It was as if life was sucked out of that place so quickly that not even the plants noticed that they were dead. One of the servants touched a tree, only for it to immediately crumble to dust.

"I don't recommend doing that again. Who knows, you might suddenly gain the inability to live with all the dust in your lungs."

They all listened to him as they went on their merry way to the Leonhart household. As soon as Hikari stepped foot within the manor's premises, he felt someone staring at him. Looking towards the manor, he saw a man watching him with disgust.

"That frequency… he's weak."

One thing that Hikari didn't understand about humanity is their arrogance and disgust for their own kind. Not that he was human by any means, quite far from it really, but it still stands. Instead of working together, humans view those lower than them as insignificant and weak, when they're not even the strongest themselves.

"Ironic, really. The only way to band them together is to threaten them with extinction."

He knew in himself that if he were to try, he could do just that and even more. But where's the good in that? He was made to protect humanity, not to kill them. However, was his power bound to such limitations? No, they weren't.
