Chapter 10 - Karrie

Gray took the girl out of the city by travelling back to his country. He brought her to the silver lake and brought her new clothes.

"Mom is going to kill me, hehe! ~" Gray muttered as he saw it was late at night in his hometown. The moonlight shined on the water, making it look like a glittering glass. The stars were blinking brightly and so beautifully.

'Beautiful and dangerous, I guess,' Gray thought as he gazed at the passed-out girl. He knew what he did was quite foolish. But he couldn't leave a girl like that. Could he? He wasn't sure himself.

"I think there was another guy in that building… Is this going to be okay?"

Gray remembered Li entering the building and running out almost instantly. He gazed at the girl and scratched his chin. But the sound of the girl's breathing calmed him down. He knew he couldn't live with the guilt if he didn't help her take revenge on the people who hurt her. So he decided to train her, just like he helped Lilith with her cultivation.

"Where am I?"

Gray walked toward the girl and noticed she was staring outside. Her lips moved, but nothing came out. She looked at him again and smiled; Gray felt relieved and smiled back. He leaned closer to the girl, inspecting her wounds.

"You're safe." Gray said and patted her head before repeating himself: "You're going to be okay from now on."

"Who are you?" The girl blinked as she felt a hand brush over her cheek.

"What's your name?" Gray asked, stepping back after seeing that no wounds remained.

"Karrie… My name is Karrie…" the girl introduced herself. "My life is over…."

"Why? You look fine to me." Gray wondered. Gray needs to get rid of the murderer and the witness. Then she could return to her life.

"What?!" the girl said. Karrie's eyes were wide with shock. The blood still covered her. However, her limbs were back, and not even scars remained. She asked again, wondering how her body could change like this. "But… how?!"

"A miracle? I don't know. You were fine when I found you." Gray lied, as he planned to pretend he was a high-ranking cultivator with a storage back containing unlimited resources to help Karrie train. However, what happened next made him change his mind.

Karrie stood up and stretched her numb arms to both of their surprises, arms stretched for a few meters as if made of rubber or gum.

"Huh?" both of them wondered. "How?"

Gray sweat visibly. The sweat flowed down his forehead like a small waterfall. 'Is this a side effect?!' he thought. He was speechless at Karrie, who stood there and stared at her palms.

"What happened to me?!" Karrie asked with raised a voice and hands on her cheeks, but what happened next shocked them even more. Her voice travelled the entire forest, making the birds wake up from their slumber and fly away from the source of the sound. The voice was producing the gusts of wind that started shaking the trees.

"Oh, boy." Gray rubbed his forehead with his palm, knowing he messed up badly. "I guess I can't bullshit my way out of this." He said, realising that pretending to be a cultivator is no longer an option, as the girl he revived now had his powers.

"Karrie, right?" Gray asked as he was so surprised by the current event that he wasn't sure if he remembered the name correctly.

"Yes…" the girl said while still staring at her palms. She pulled a finger, and it stretched just like gum. The finger returned to its natural form when she let it go while bouncing like a spring. This made her giggle. "Hehe! ~"

Gray walked closer to the girl and asked. He wondered if she had all of his powers or just the rubber body. "Could you try something out?"

"Okay… What do you want me to do?" Karrie said.

"Spin for me."

"Huh?"

"Can you spin for me?" Gray repeated the question.

"Uh… Okay," she complied with a nervous chuckle. She spun around in a circle twice, but nothing happened. However, after the third spin, she noticed her eyesight was blurry. She felt weird but couldn't stop spinning anymore and soon turned into a small tornado.

"Ah yes, the tornado. Check." Gray picked out a notebook from his pocket and checked the powers he knew he currently had. Gray, with raised brows, looked at the spinning Karrie. "This girl has my powers…."

When she stopped spinning, she noticed her clothing had changed. She was no longer wearing the rags of her school uniform but was in her casual dress.

She was speechless once again.

Gray looked at her confused expression and chuckled. He told her the truth.

"You have my powers now." He said with a smug expression. Unlike Lilith, who couldn't understand his power, he now has someone who will share it. "I guess it was a side effect of bringing you back to life…."

"Huh?" she exclaimed as reality hit her. She remembered what had happened. The person she held dearest killed her. Not that bastard Qiu Kang killed her. He also tortured and humiliated her. The tears formed in her eyes without realising it and soon turned into a small waterfall. She crossed her arms while trembling and said quietly: "I hate cultivators."

Not knowing what to say, Gray stood there and watched as she cried. He stood in silence, away from her, allowing her to vent her feelings.

The girl kneeled and continuously wiped streams of tears. She thought about it and knew she and Qiu Kang had no future, as she was not a cultivator. But for him to become so ruthless and murder her in cold blood was something she will never forget.

"What happened between you and Qiu Kang?" Gray wondered. He knew she was his childhood friend, so he couldn't comprehend what had made him kill her. He didn't see the reason for it. "Why did he kill you?"

"Because… I could not cultivate." She said with a trembling voice.

This shocked Gray because Karrie was a demon, and demons have superior bodies and spiritual roots compared to humans. He had never heard of a monster who couldn't cultivate. At least not on television. He never studied cultivation history at school.

"I got my spiritual roots from my dad, "She said sadly. She pulled her dad's picture from her pocket without realising she had never had it here. Karrie looked at the picture and said:" My mommy was a demon, but my dad was a human."

"Was?" Gray asked, his voice quiet. "Did something happen?"

She nodded. "He died when I was eight. My mom had been gone for years, so she wasn't around much."

"You know what?" Gray suddenly said with a smug expression.

"What?"

"I will be your brother!" Gray said with a grin. "And you know what your big brother will do?"

"Uh… No?" Karrie felt confused at that moment.

Gray smirked as he took a massive hammer out of his pocket. " He will punish those who bully his little sister."

His eyes emitted a weird greenish glow. His smirk turned disturbing as it reached from ear to ear like a monster. However, Karrie was not afraid of him. She felt his emotions. She felt how sad and angry he was over her misfortune, which simultaneously made her feel happy and worried. Karrie did not know how powerful the two of them were.

"But Qiu Kang is already a bronze-tier cultivator…." Karrie said as she spits out the name Qiu Kang. "And he has a protection of elders…."

"But you have something better," he said before spinning. After the spin, he changed his clothes into that of a villain from his favourite horror movie. "You have me!"

He wore a plastic mask of a bunny rabbit, clothes that of a clown, and he held a giant hammer. Gray pulled a brush and painted the picture of the Flaming Horizon sect.

"Shall we go?" he said as he extended his hand to Karrie.

"Yes!" she said with a beautiful smile on her face. "Let's go!"
