A thick invisible fog filled the air. Detective Miller felt fuzzy just staring back at Lila and wondering what the hell she had in her bucket of mystery for them. 

He turned to look at Rachel. She looked tired as hell. Her usual bright blue eyes now looked tired and withdrawn. He immediately made a decision he intended to revisit later. Whether Rachel liked it or not, once all of these blew over, he was going to make sure she got a well-deserved long vacation from work. 

And when he finally became lieutenant, he was going to make sure that people like Rachel who had worked their asses off for the precinct did not have to work as hard as they were working now. He would lessen their workload and make them enjoy the job a lot more than they did now. 

He'd not realized that Rachel had seen his gaze fixed on her. When he saw that their eyes had met, it was too late. He looked quickly away and stared back at Lila.
