I wake up in a warm bed, the sheets were soft and the mattress plush. I felt like the undead as I sat up in the bed. I slide off the side and walk to the window, looking out over the snow covered land. It had been two more days of travel after we left the village, but I don't remember entering this building the only thing I recall is it being night, so I must have fallen asleep. The door opens and I turn my head and see a maid. It was good to walk around freely now, because that aloud me to run from her if she was here to trick me.
"Oh, Princess, you're awake I brought you some fresh clothes. Since you're up already, I can run you a bath and have you fixed up."
"I'll keep my clothes thanks, I can bathe on my own as well, you just need to show me to the room."
"If that's what you wish princess, but someone needs to keep watch on you as commands of my lord."
"And who will that be? You?"
"I cannot say for sure my princess, he will have to make the final call."
I give a sigh," I'll just go on my own, and pretend I didn't know," I say walking out the door next to her.
"No, Princess please don't walk freely in the halls," the maid says running after.
I pass one of the rooms and I start to get light headed. I slow my walk touching the wall.
"Princess, please come back this way!"
How am I to trust her? I walk on even though my head feels like I'm about to faint. However the farther I go into the hall, the worse I feel. I don't know why I stop but I do. I don't feel my body as I sit onto the floor.
"Princess!" A panicked and worried voice calls from down the hall.
I look up to see Landor, he rushes over bending down to where I sit on the floor. He touches my shoulder and I lean on him for stability.
"What happened?" Lander asks the maid.
"She wouldn't listen to me about having her watch, so she can bathe, so she just up and left saying she would do it on her own. She started walking down the hall and she wouldn't turn back."
"What's wrong with her?"
"I'd imagine it's because this wing is above the dungeon."
"Why would that? I'm confused why that makes a difference."
"Lander she's a creature connected to the goddess, do you understand?"
I grab at the fabric on his chest," bring me away from here," I say to him looking up.
"I thought I was done carrying you around now," he sighs scooping me up off the ground.
He walks away from the wing, they are quiet. I didn't realize when it hit me before, after she told me of the dungeon I realized the cause.
"It reeks of death," I say feeling my body purge the energy away from me.
"What?" He asks.
"I can feel the death, the sorrow. They say the light chases away the dark, but that is only sometimes true. The innocent souls of the dead cling to light," I explain to him," you all get sick from viruses and all, I get sick from those souls. They enter my body the way a sickness will. Typically it's no problem, but I'm far away from the alter, I'm not as strong."
The maid nods," there isn't any gaurdanium or an alter anywhere close by," the maid looks right at Landor as she speaks," the royal family have always had problems with there family for reasons like this. The longer she is away from the castle and the mother crystal, the faster her death will come."
Lander seemed surprised at the maids words," Princess when were you going to say something?"
I avert my eyes from him," it's a secret, however it is true. My time can be prolonged as long as I have gaurdanium to feed energy from. Other minerals and stones work as well, but they are only a temporary solution. Only my family knows about it, but I wouldn't be surprised if others caught on, since all my relatives die when they are taken captive for longer than about a month."
I look to the maid who turns her head away," but you knew that for another reason didn't you?"
She looks as though she had been caught, I thought so, "If you don't mind, I'm not unaware of what you're kind did to him, I'd rather not look at you."
She hangs her head low," I'm sorry you're majesty," she mumbles slowing down to be behind Landor.
I can sense Lander is picking up on my hostility, and her guilt as equally. Lander stops walking.
"I feel like I'm missing something here, sister?" He asks the maid, who apparently is his sister.
"I didn't help I only fed him."
"You sill did nothing though did you!" I say in anger, and even though my body was weak and I wasn't feeling great, my voice boomed threw the hall," put me down please."
"Are you sure Princess?"
"Yes, put me down."
Landor slowly lowers my legs to the floor, as I feel the ground under me I stand walking over to the bench in the hall. I could feel the anger boiling in me, I take a breath trying to calm myself. Energy flickers around my body, and I anticipated that this would happened so that's why I got away from Landor. I can see the glow from my eyes even with them shut.
"Princess?" Lander asks," you're ok, right?"
"She's emotional," his sister says," there power acts up when they feel intense emotion. Depending on the feeling causes the effect to change. She is either very mad, or sad, and I assume it's probably the former."
"Emily, what did you do that made her mad?"
"I believe in this circumstance it's more of what I didn't do. Or rather what I was apart of."
"Ask her," I start trying not to get worked up about them talking about me as if I wasn't there.
I open my eyes looking right at her," actually, why don't you just tell him about Christopher?"
I don't feel the tears until they slide off my face and hit my hands.
"Cristopher was the original heir to the throne of Newberry."
Landor looked flabbergasted, like it was the craziest thing he'd ever heard.
"He was my brother," I cry tears falling from my face, a truth only a handful of people knew,"My only real family I had left, but they took him from me."
