Chereads / A Fated Mistake / Chapter 4 - Chapter 4

Chapter 4 - Chapter 4

Damien, was acting weird today.Stephanie had run into me on my way to his meeting and she looked irate.

"Do you know what the fuck Damien said to me this morning!" She screamed at me. "He said I wasn't even a good lay and that I wouldn't become Luna."

"Steph, calm down," I whispered as I pulled her into the hall and looked around making sure no one overheard her.

Rumors were already spreading around the pack like wildfire that the Valencia line of Alpha's was cursed by the Moon Goddess herself. Alpha Sam, lost his mate to another, and Alpha Damien hasn't been blessed with a mate.If Damien does end up having to choose a mate, we don't want the pack to know his mate was chosen. Once pack members start thinking the moon goddess hates the alpha in charge, the Alpha is placed in a dangerous situation.

Some members might even seek to overthrow the Valencia Line. Others will seek to make Damien fall in love with them, not because they admire him, but because they want the power and the wealth that he had. As his Beta, it was my responsibility to protect my Alpha at all cost. Also as the Mate to his sister Rose, I couldn't let harm come to her family.

"Listen Steph, Damien has a lot on his plate right now, today is his first official meeting as Alpha. His dad and my dad will be there. He wants to impress him. Just forget about whatever he said to hurt your feelings. I'm sure he didn't mean it, and go back to pleasing him. I'm sure he'll be back to his normal self by the end of the night and you'll be back to fucking like normal. Now I need to go. Please refrain from shouting obscenities about the Alpha."

I hurried from the corridor and raced down the stairs to the Alpha's office. I ran into my dad and former Alpha Sam along the way and we began discussing possible outcomes for the meeting today.

"Last I heard, Damien just wants to banish her to the Full Moon pack. He said that's where all traitors and those with traitors blood deserve to go."

"It's where I should've banished Rachel, after I killed Robert for his betrayal. I couldn't bring myself to bring harm upon Rachel though. I didn't want her to suffer the pain of losing a mate like I did. I was a silly fool and I still loved her even after the betrayal." My father and I both stayed quiet. It was a rarity that Alpha Sam talked about his past, especially when that past included Gregory and Rachel.

"Hopefully Damien has learned from my mistakes and won't go easy on the girl. He can't be seen as frail, especially since he is still an Alpha without a Luna on his side. And his father is the Alpha that didn't kill his best friend for betraying him."

We were all quiet for a moment. My father looked like he wanted to say something but remained silent. We all knew that Alpha Sam regretted not killing Robert. Robert at one point should have been his beta. When the Alpha didn't kill Robert, outside packs as well as our pack members saw him as weak. Alpha Sam had had to work hard and become a brutal Alpha in order to regain strength in his position.

Damien quickly approached us. I could tell from the look in his face that something had happened. I sent him a mind link trying to figure out what was going on, but Damien just shook his head at me. We followed quietly behind him.Sitting at the end of the table was a small woman. She had long brown hair and looked timid and scared. When she looked up, I could tell that she was worried. I watched her eyes and noticed how they followed Damien across the room as he took his seat at the head of the table, I also noticed that even though Damien seemed to be indifferent towards her, he couldn't take his eyes off her. I wonder what had occurred between them, before we showed up.

I was interrupted from my thoughts a cry from the she wolf Guinevere. Damien had just finished telling Guinevere that she would become the cleaning omega for the pack house and that she would need to report to him, causing Guinevere to flee the room, crying hysterically.

'Follow her' Damien mind link me.

'Yes Alpha.' I left the office even more puzzled than before.

Why had Damien taken such an interest to the girl. She was pretty plain looking. All of a sudden it hit me clear as day. All the factors from today made sense. But surely it couldn't be. The moon goddess really couldn't be this fucked up, could she?

"I know you're following me, you might as well come out into the open and help me with this bag." came a sweet voice interrupting my thoughts.

"Oh, I see you're already packed Guinevere. Perfect. Well this won't take long then. Alpha Damien sent me to follow you to ensure nothing happened to you along the way. As I'm sure you're aware. Many pack members despise your family."

"What?" Guinevere said feigning shock. "I had no idea. I thought my parents chose to live just outside the pack line for the mere privacy. I always imagined we were more like celebrities and the pack just couldn't get enough of us." She responded, sarcasm dripping heavily from her voice.

"Okay smart ass," I laugh, "Let's hurry along, before Alpha Damien starts wondering where we've ran off to and gets the wrong idea.

I helped Guinevere grab her remaining bags and walked her to my Jeep. I needed to do something drastic to test my theory out and see if Gwynn (as she told me to call her) was really Damien's mate.

When we arrived back at the pack house Damien was waiting for us in the lobby. I decided to make my move and slid my foot out causing Gwynn to trip. I reached out and grabbed her hand and pulled her to my chest catching her. As soon as Gwynn made contact with me, she became flustered.

"Ooof, sorry Alex, I am such a klutz. I hope I didn't hurt you," she said putting her hand on my chest, her eyes staring at my broad chest. I let out a smirk, even though I was a mated wolf, it was still nice to know that others appreciated my physique.

"Mine" came the snarl of an Alpha roar right in front of me.

Hah. I was right.

"Leave us now." Damien growled his wolf fighting to come to the surface.

"Yes Alpha," I replied hurrying out of the lobby, quietly closing the door behind me.
