I only have 2 things running through my head right now. The first one is, 'Wow, they didn't talk long to plan this wake at all, like mom didn't even process before she started planning' and second, 'This feels so wrong'. I never had to get ready for an event with out my dad commenting on something or at least one argument.
"Maya hurry, people are starting to arrive and they need to see you at your father's wake "I respond with only a small eye roll.
"Coming Mother" call through the door. Of course she's worried about appearances. As I walk around downstairs, looking for anything to make this a little more bearable I hear all the normal 'Sorry for your loss' and 'I just wanted to share my condolences'. Of course I nod my head and say thank you with I sorrow filled smile on my face but all I really want to do is throw something, break something, yell, anything just to get all these emotions out. But, Keeping those thoughts to myself I walk around and find a bottle of my mother's champagne. Best believe I popped the cork on it so fast and poured a glass. I hope this will be a little easier with some liquid courage.
Aft6er sipping a fine amount of the bottle, I put it back and make my way to Tyler at the door, just to be surprised with one person that I haven't seen in years. Since I was very little due to the far away schools that I was put in.
"Uncle Mason?" I say with a small smile and open arms walking up to give him a hug. It's still the same as I remember, a comforting hug with his clothes giving off the fresh scent of the woods.
"Hey pup" I always hated that nickname. But under these circumstances its comforting. Shows that when everything feels like its spinning out of control something's stay the same. And I can't stress how thankful I am for that right now.
"I'm so sorry about what happened, I got here as soon a s I heard."
"I'm glad that you did, It's great to see you" There are some sandwich bites and drinks inside if you would like some, you can go help yourself." He walks away with a smile on his face right towards the sandwiches, making conversation with other people as he goes.
"Hey Ty" I said turning to look at him for the first time all day. I run to him and hug him like I'm a little kid again and he's going to save me from all the monsters under my bed and in the closet.
"How's Caroline?" I say knowing that he would have went to go visit her before he had to get ready and help set all this up.
"She stable and awake but still in the hospital bed" He said looking a bit guilty and putting his head down
"Hey, It's not your fault, no one blames you." I say lifting his head back up from his chin
"I know but I can't help but feel guilty, I was driving, I lost control over that stupid noise and I crashed the car. Putting her into the state she is in now. So it is my fault."
"No it's not, Caroline doesn't blame you, Matt doesn't blame you, Ms.Forbes doesn't blame you, hell even I don't blame you and I blame you for everything. I still don't get away with it though" I said everything seriously except for the last part, that was playfully said and I even topped it off with a thoughtful look up at the sky.
" Anyway, my point is don't be sad, because sad backward is das....and das not good." He actually laughs at that one.
"God you're so stupid." He says still laughing. I don't care though as long as I distracted him for a little while.
"C'mon lets go mingle a little." Said slinging my arm around his waist and he slings his around my shoulder. Cue the missable time we're about to have
-After the wake, at the Mystic Grill-
It's Elena, Stefan, Bonnie, Tyler, Jeremy and I all sat at a table, eating some lunch. We all didn't show up together though we just happened to have the same idea. Elena, Stefan and Jeremy were here already when we got here, Bonnie showed up and was going to sit down by herself not realizing that we were here so we called her over, Matt had a shift so he chilled with us after he got off and Tyler and I needed a pick me up so we came to get some ice cream but ended up getting some food too. I thought it would be a little awkward considering that was the vibe of Jeremy and I's last conversation plus the kinda heated one with Elena but everything played out quite nicely.
"Hey um, pup, Ty can I talk to you guys for a minute?" Uncle Mason said out of nowhere, I didn't even notice when he walked in. Everyone at the table looked at me at mention of the nickname , some people with a smirk some were confused. When I say 'some with a smirk' I mean Jeremy, I just give him a look to shut up and he puts his hands up in surrender
I turn back to Uncle Mason with a little blush on my checks, he then smirks at me and I have to give his the 'shut up' look next, he drops it but still has a smirk "Sure" "Ok" We said simultaneously while following him out of the restaurant.
"I meant to ask earlier and I know that this is one of the worst timings but I could really use your guys help finding something in the mansion." Why did he sound so panicked?
"Um sure" We said looking at each other still unsure and uncertain what he wanted us to look for. "What are we looking for?"
"It's a moonstone, bout the size of a hockey puck. Old, ugly, minimal monetary value."
"What do you need it for"
"It's just very sentimental, It was my mom's, my dad gave it to her when they got married. It was probably passed down to your dad, should still be on the house somewhere"
"Hey man, whatever. Um, ask my mom, I guess" Ty told him. I just agreed with Tyler because I've never seen that stone in my whole life, so I wouldn't know where to look for it.
"Yeah cool, I'll do that. You guys ready?"
"Nah, we're gonna go back to our friends"
"OK, See you at the house"
"See ya"
-Stefan's POV-
I know it's wrong and that I shouldn't be listening on private conversations but once I heard mention of the moonstone, the same stone that Katherine is looking for my ears pipped up.
Elena, noticing the look on my face she asked what was wrong. I just stayed silent for a little longer then explaining to her and the rest of the group what I heard.
"Mason is looking for the moonstone and wants Tyler and Maya to help him"
"The same one Katherine is after?" Asked Bonnie
"Yeah" I said, the wheels turning in my head about why Mason wants it and how to get it first.
"Well then we have to get it before he does" Elena talks fast
"How do you suggest we do that"Jeremy says extremely bored with this situation
"Easy, we have to go to the Lockwood mansion and search till we find it." I say
"Well that's a stupid plan so while you idiots are doing that I'll stay here a little longer and finish my food" Jeremy said taking an aggressive bite out of his food as the rest of us stand up and head out of The Grill.
-Maya's POV-
"Hey....Where did everyone else go?" I say looking arounds a little confused
" Said they had to go take care of something and left"He said back giving me a small smile as I sit back down
"Hey, I'm gonna head over to Matt's, see you later okay" Said Tyler, on his way out he gave me his version of a discrete wink. I knew his plan leave me with Jeremy... just us 2....to talk....
"so..." we both say at the same time, resulting in us both chuckling at our own awkwardness
"What going on with you and your sister, seems pretty hostile." I said with a grimace.
"Nothing much, she kept information away from me when I had a right to know." He stiffened a little but like he was getting angry all over again just talking about it.
"Ok...we'll judging on the way you just reacted from me bringing it up, I'll leave that topic alone for now. How about we talk about the Carnival tomorrow?" I said the last part with a little smile on my face.
"Oh um yeah, I was wondering if you were going?" He asked
"Maybe, Why" I said stealing his smirk from earlier
"I was hoping you would like to go with me?" He said every ounce of hope I have showing in my voice, praying that he would say yes.
"Maybe" I said keeping the smirk on his lips. His face wavered a little but went right back he probably thought I didn't notice. But I catch things quicker than most people
"Of course, I'll go with you" I said dropping the smirk and picking up a smile
"Glad to hear it pup" He said getting his smirk back
"Don't start" I said trying to be serious
"But c'mon it's a cute nickname"
"nope" We pay and walk out of the establishment still debating about this. He mindlessly walked me home and before I even realize it we're here.
"Thank you for walking we home" I say once I realize where we actually were.
"No problem"
"night" we both said but for some reason I couldn't bring myself to turn around and walk inside. I walked up to him, got on my tippy toes and kissed him on the cheek.
"see you tomorrow" I whispered as I put myself back on the ground and turned around without even completely looking at his expression. But I knew mine. My face must have been cherry red and I had a goofy smile on my face. That smile didn't leave even as I went to sleep.
