Chapter 5 - Dinner

Abigail's POV

Rage. Pure rage was the only emotion I felt as I walked down a long hallway in our mansion. My mother had to come up to my room earlier to "threaten" me to join some stupid family dinner.

I knew Fernando would be there, and I honestly don't want to have any confrontations with my elder brother. How everything was going on directly under my nose, I had absolutely no idea. Everyone seemed to be okay with keeping things from me. Feeling like some goddamn outsider in your own home was certainly not the best confidence boost.

I could still remember the smug look on his face and the shocked look on mine, when I realized that Fernando was the infamous and ruthless"Chaos". Known for his vicious styles of fighting and merciless slaughtering of his opponents, Chaos was dreaded by both my father's men and even supernatural creatures. He was a perfect heir for my father, making me wonder what exactly was my use to him. Perhaps, I'd find out sooner.

I was finally face to face with the grand, giant double doors that led to the massive dining hall. I took in a deep breath, trying to calm my ever wracking nerves and smoothened a few creases on my dark colored knee-length dress....not really my style.

With a final sigh, I put on a straight face, determined not to make a display of my emotions.

My metal arm made a whirring sound as I shoved the huge door, making them give way with more force than intended. With a sharp intake of air, I tried not to look too surprised at the seemingly improved decorations here.  The hall was buzzing with a few staffs, which was rather extra to me, since we were just a family of four. More chandeliers and grand lightings assaulted my eyes as I scanned the environment before me.

Aromas of various delicacies hit my nose as I subtly took a whiff, realizing how hungry I actually was. Some kind of instrumental music piece was playing somewhere in the background, almost too low for my ears to pick up on.

My eyes suddenly stopped at the middle of the room, narrowing on the three people sitting, eating and laughing together. My "Family".

With my head held high and fist clenched behind me, I took slow strides towards the trio, who seemed to be oblivious of my presence...or pretending to be. I found it weird that no guards were posted around as usual.

" Look who finally decided to grace us with her divine presence." Fernando mused, eyeing me through the glass of champagne he was sipping. I ignored him.

Taking a seat, I immediately started helping myself to my preferred options on the menu, not even sparing my parents a glance.

I could feel the weight of their judgemental scrutinizing gazes as I filled my plate with more food. My father cleared his throat.

" Bringing weapons to a family dinner isn't nice, hija." He said, in a heavy Spanish accent, leaning back on his chair to light a cigarette.

I was impressed at how he was able to  figure it out, but this was my father here, a typical Sanchez. I sighed inwardly, unsheathing a dagger and placing on the table.

" I'll take that." My annoying brother reached out for my favorite dagger, before I had time to protest, handing it over to a guard that was standing by his side. I gaped at the soldier as he walked away with my knife, cursing inwardly. There weren't any guards here when I entered!

I made a mental note to go through their recent defense tactics. Can't be left out of the latest improvements.

I gave my brother the worst and most fearsome glare I could muster, making him chuckle in amusement, swirling the content of the fancy glass cup he was drinking from. Strangling him right now does seem like a good idea.

"Every good child knows not to play with knives, Abby." My mother, who was silent all the while suddenly spoke, not looking up from her plate as she fumbled with the cutleries. I frowned at the name she called me.

She wasn't allowed to call me that, no one was.

" And explosives too. " My father added, throwing a bunch of disarmed car bombs to me, making me cringe. I knew he'd find out anyways. Tossing the explosives aside, I started digging into my meal... which was already starting to get cold.

Now that I think of it, my father is obviously getting tired of my repeated attempts to kill him. Pussy!

"Oh honey, shall we tell her the news?" My mother suddenly said, placing her perfectly manicured hand on my dad's shoulders. Her brown eyes looking at my dad expectantly, with a pout on her perfectly, wickedly shaped lips.

She did remind me of Maria alot, with the curly long eyelashes, smooth skin and dark, thick, long hair. She was a lean framed woman, with a lot of energy too. Standing taller than my father, who was basically of a more broader build. When I was younger, I'd always wish to be as tall as my mother.

" Oh yes Elena! That would be after she surrenders all the weapons she brought to a peaceful family dinner." My father mused, staring fixedly at me.

I paused, narrowing my eyes at my father, before looking over to Fernando, seeing him scrolling nonchalantly on his phone. My mother gasped.

"You brought another?" She said, in a slightly higher pitch.

I shrugged, bringing out a pistol that I'd earlier stolen from one of my father's men. The damn thing wasn't even loaded.

Placing the pistol once again on the table, I continued with my food.

" Remember Carter? He's going to be here within the next few days." My father said, after clearing his throat.

My mother was basically bubbling with excitement as he spoke, and Fernando just watched on, clearly amused by this little drama episode.

" You're going to be getting married to Carter" Mother squealed in a sing song tone, clapping her hands together.

What the fuck?

Benard's pov

" He did what???!" I yelled, unable to control my irritation.

" Alpha, he's in the infirmary. They captured one of the humans." The delta before me said, sensing my rising temper.

" At what fucking cost? Now we lost three deltas and my beta is hospitalized, great!" I said, slapping against the surface of the nearby desk. The delta flinched.

I stood up from my office chair, pinched the bridge of my nose as I started pacing. I need a fucking break!!!

"I want to see this human you captured. Where the hell is he?" I spat out in annoyance, as I put on my cloak.

" Locked away in the dungeon Alpha! I'm afraid he's very dangerous and armed even in captivity." The delta blurted out nervously, as he held the door open for me.

I halted on my tracks.

"Why? You didn't take his weapons away? Are you kidding me?"

" No Alpha.. that's not it." He said, puffing out his chest and trying to appear bold.

" What is it then? Dammit... What the fuck is the problem?" I growled loudly, taking threatening steps towards him. He gulped.

"He...he....the human injected themselves with a rare form of wolfsbane.. one that could kill a werewolf instantly. " He blurted.

"What?" I stepped back in shock.

" The deltas that died on this mission with us didn't just die. They were poisoned Alpha. Achuri is the only specie of wolfsbane that is that effective. It was injected into the bloodstreams of the humans."

"So... When any of you try to rip them apart with your fangs..." I spoke lowly, realization sinking in.

" Yes Alpha, by any chance a tiny drop of their blood pours into our mouth. It's instant death...we found out too late." He sighed.

I snarled and clenched my fist in fury. Those pesky little fuckers...

"What about Mark, was he also poisoned?" I asked, walking out of the office, the delta hot on my tails.

" No Alpha. Beta Mark went through much worse." He said, making me halt  again. I turned sharply to look at him, making him a bit startled.

"Speak" I urged him with a growl.

" A very strong scent of blood was what lured us into the scene where our Beta had initially sensed a disturbance." He said, swallowing hard.

"When we arrived, we were met with a very gruesome sight... Lots of bloody corpse and burning flesh. The corpses were mostly werewolves, with one witch." He continued, eyes glazing over.

"Beta Mark's mate was among the slain wolves. She was long dead and brutally murdered before we got there." He said, shoulders sagging in defeat.

I was livid. Sinking my fist into the bark of a nearby tree, I watched as it shattered on my impact, making the tree bend slightly. I let out a fierce growl.

Pack wolves that were passing by were alarmed by my fit of rage. Most of them scampered and scurried to safety. The delta remained silent, looking anywhere but at me, as he shifted his weight between his two legs.

" The humans want to play? We can play too." I said, making a swift turn towards the dungeon. Good thing I don't need only fangs to rip out throats....the humans shall pay... with blood. Achuri or not!!!

The doors of the dungeon were opened for me by two deltas who were stationed there. They bowed their heads in greetings as I barely acknowledged then with a grunt.

My razor sharp claws were protruding, as well as my fangs. I wasn't fucking around.

The foul stench of blood and rusting metal greeted me as I barged into the dimly lit dungeon. Whimpers and growls could be heard around me as I passed a number of cells. A delta was in front of me, leading me to the human, while two others flanked me from behind.

A very strong sweet scent of something like vanilla and strawberry hit me as I stood on the entrance of the cell. I scrunched up my nose.

The delta unlocked the door and am greeted with a pleasant and disturbing sight at once.

A very beautiful woman was sitting, tied to a chair in the middle of the room. I couldn't see her face, because she hung her head low, letting her hair hide it. I just knew.... Just felt it.

The sweet scent was coming from her the whole time.

"Mate...mate...mate!!" The word kept ringing in my head. My heartbeat rose to very fast  and loud pace. My initially protuded fangs and claws were now retracted, as I took slow steps towards my mate, trying not to startle her. My deltas must have gotten the wrong person.

Suddenly, she whipped her face up in a motion that made me flinch. I blinked furiously, as I was no longer looking at my "mate"

A menacing and horrible looking old man was glaring back at me, with an unbelievable amount of hatred and disgust in his eyes. I blinked hard and scrunched up my nose as a horrible smell hit me. A warlock... thought they were all dead.

The three deltas behind me suddenly snarled and rushed forward, ready to attack. I gave a warning growl.

" Nice to see you again... Beta." The warlock gave a toothy grin.

" It's Alpha to you now, Okiro" I spat, stalking closer to him.

"Aaaw.. little Bernard is all grown up now." He chuckled darkly.

" What do you want? " I said, growing annoyed every passing moment.

"The real question is....who do I want?" He said, suddenly standing up from the chair as if he wasn't bound to it. His presence was so unnerving.

"...but that's something you need not to worry about now, Benny boy. War is coming... A big one. Something that is bigger than all of us." He said, picking his nails leisurely.

"We know that, Okiro. We also know that you are working with the humans." I seethed.

"Traitor! " One of my deltas growled.

The warlock just crossed his arms leisurely, looking at us...with a stupid smile on his face.

" In the face of war, we take sides. Mark's mate was just collateral damage."

"You old psychopath! You gave them the Achuri, didn't you?" I snarled.

"They're going to wipe us all out!" A delta said.

" As much as I'd love to sympathize, I wasn't really given a warm welcome." Okiro said, nonchalantly.

" Best be on my way now folks, try not to die like your coward father, Benny boy." He said, turning to me. I saw red.

Nobody calls my father a coward. Warlock or not, I'll slaughter him.

Immediately, two of my deltas shifted and lunged for him, while I seized him by his throat.

" Now, you die."

I bet you thought Benny was gonna meet his mate, Ha! You underestimate me 🌚

Enjoy!
