Chapter 8 - Overseer of Greed

It had been a week since Midas was brought back to the A.X.A. facility, and since the revelation of A.X.A.'s history.

"The preparations for your suit are nearly complete," Chamuel told Midas. "You're soon to become one of us."

"An Overseer, huh…"

"Do you have any regrets?" Chamuel asked him.

Midas thought about it, the regular life he used to live, and the comrades in the Sins he'd made along the way. That was all far behind him now. With the direction he'd chosen, there was no turning back. It was cold where he stood, but at the very least he knew the truth to everything.

"I have no regrets. I feel more powerful than ever now that I've received the knowledge I seek."

"You won't hesitate in helping the very organization that ruined your life?"

Midas gave Chamuel a look of disdain. "A.X.A. hasn't ruined my life. If anything, A.X.A. has adjusted my life on the path that was necessary. If you hadn't taken me in as your subject, the potential behind my intelligence would have gone to waste."

"That's right," Chamuel grinned proudly. "I'm glad you've chosen to avenge MONA alongside us."

Suddenly, an announcement blared over the speakers in the facility. "Calling all Overseers to meet me in my office. We're going to have the official debrief for our plan on Judgement Day."

"That's Michael. Let's go, Midas."

The two made their way through the facility's numerous white halls until finally reaching Michael's office. Azrael and Uriel were already there.

"Come in," Michael told them. They all sat in chairs surrounding his desk.

"The ship's construction has finally been finished, and I will be naming it the Ark. The Ark will need seven days to fully stabilize its cannons before they can be ready for use. Until then, our preparations for Judgement Day will be made. Chamuel, explain the plan."

"Thank you, Michael." Chamuel cleared his throat. "If you all don't already know, the purpose of the Ark's cannons are to destroy the sun. Once and for all we will eradicate the Cardinal Nexus' source of light, and energy. Once their sun is gone, we'll have properly avenged the Moon, our one and only MONA."

"The cannons are going to be that strong…?" Midas asked.

"We've been formulating this for a century, Midas. You know this," Chamuel told him. "But it won't be as simple as aiming the cannons at the sun and hoping for the best. No. There is already a direct line-of-sight prepared for our shot at the sun."

"Ellipses Point," Uriel jumped in.

"Exactly. Ellipses Point of the Cardinal Nexus HQ is directly under the sun. It is also pointed directly at the sun, right at its center. It's a perfect lineup for our energy beam. But in order to transfer our blast from the Ark's cannons to Ellipses Points' line-of-sight, we must attach a mechanism to Ellipses Point first. That will be your job, Azrael. You have the best wing flight control out of any of us."

"What is the mechanism?" He asked Chamuel.

"An automated formation of plates. The plates must be placed along all of Ellipses Point, and once the Ark has fired its energy at Ellipses Point, it will be the plate mechanism that'll direct the energy in the direction of Ellipses Point—up and directly at the sun."

Azrael nodded in understanding.

"As for you Uriel, your job will be to infiltrate the control system for Ellipses Point."

"But that's inside Cardinal Nexus HQ," he told Chamuel.

"I know. And no one here knows the layout inside the HQ better than you do, Mr. Minister Uriel. You still have your keycard, don't you?"

A smirk grew on Uriel's face. "I do..."

"You're to ensure that Ellipses Point is aimed at the proper coordinates at all times. The energy blast might divert Ellipses Point's aim, so you'll need to recalibrate it when it does. You can do that, right?"

"Of course I can!" Uriel replied enthusiastically."

"Once we've destroyed their beloved sun, the Cardinal Nexus' declining reputation will collapse fully, and they will lose all their governed power. A.X.A. will take over, and it will be the second coming of the Elysian Congregation." Michael huffed with excitement. "Only then will we have avenged Mother. This is our duty to enact Judgement Day. Are there any concerns?"

For a moment, there was silence among the Overseers. This was something long-coming, and the time to act was finally near. Everyone knew what had to be done.

"The Sins," Midas spoke up.

This took Michael by surprise. "The Sins…?"

"Yes, the other subjects that I used to lead. I'm concerned about them."

"And what is there to be concerned about them?"

"Their potential."

Suddenly, Chamuel's All-Knowing-Vision rung. He could see it in Midas' mind—just how well-suited the Sins as a team had become.

"Although they are left with no more leader, I can assure you they know how to take initiative. All their abilities have grown with immense strength ever since the breakout." Midas explained the threat that the Sins posed, even without him as their leading strategist. He portrayed Venus, the Sin of Pride, as an unparalleled being of destruction, while there was Ian, the Sin of Sloth, whose boundaries with mind control had not yet been met. Michael actually listened as Midas spoke about his previous comrades, taking every possible scenario into consideration.

"We cannot risk a single obstruction to our plan, and from the way you speak, you make it seem as if the other Sins have the potential to do that."

"They do." Midas smirked. "It was, after all, us Sins that began the downfall of the Cardinal Nexus' reputation. Even with their numbers and their higher powers, a group of six delinquents managed to damage their foundations severely."

"He's right, Michael." Chamuel joined in. "The other Sins pose a threat. I can see it in his mind."

"The third eye doesn't lie," Uriel giggled.

Michael exhaled. "Then you will be our hitman, Midas. If you truly dedicate your being to MONA as you've pledged, you will hunt them down, and eliminate them on Judgement Day. Do not leave a single Sin alive. You, and Reed, will be the only Sins remaining past Judgement Day. Do you understand?"

Without hesitation, Midas replied. "Yes sir."

"Good. You'll be able to put that new suit into good use. Once its ready and you've put it on, you'll officially become an Overseer of A.X.A."

Midas smiled at Michael's words. He felt a rejuvenating welcome to the new world he'd been bestowed.

"I will become the Overseer of Greed."

The Sin had officially joined forces with the wicked suits of white.
