The sands of time were running out. Overnight, we arrived at a dessert. Thomas and I were taken out of the car and Thomas was pushed towards the ground. He knew death was here. Being blindfolded with a gun pointed towards his head. He screamed loud and clear, that even God Almighty must have heard him
"Today I, Thomas Clapton am going to die a brave man. A man who will not stay down while you bastards are alive! I love my family!"
And just like that, the bullet entered and left his skull at the speed of light. He was shot by one of the brother of the soldier Thomas had shot. From their perspective his brother had done justice, while Thomas had avenged his parents. I guess what they say is true. "An eye for an eye, makes the whole world go blind"
As he laid lifeless on the ground. I looked up to the heavens and asked "Is this the world you created?"
The last moments of a person's life can have a lasting effect. The young boy, Thomas Clapton. I had been with him through thick and thin. And how God had written it, how destiny played it's role. I was there with him. I was there with him, right infront of him about to witness his death. A death of a young brave boy who had the courage to stand up for something he believed in. His heart lost it's beat a long time ago. I looked at him and he was smiling. I could tell he was at peace with himself, he had avenged his parents. It all made sense to me now, but it was too late. He had been training in order to defend the ones he loved. How noble of a little boy right? A world filled with remarkable people and all kinds of personalities and this boy had more integrity and dedication than half of the world combined. It was an honour to see this sight but my heart broke seeing my best friend leave. And for what? Nothing? I asked myself the question and got an answer this time. Not for nothing. Thomas Clapton had put his life on the line for his family. Thomas Clapton had the desire to change the world. Maybe you can inspire people to stand up for themselves.
I had watched all of this sitting back in the car. I laid there lifeless with no purpose to carry on. I had decided that it was my time to go too. My best friend had gone to a better place and I owed him the respect to not carry forward in life without him anymore. Broken down and hungry for his love, just as I was about to close my eyes. I heard one of the soldiers saying
"What about this little fella back in the trunk?" A reply came "What about it? It is just a filty boy's playing toy"
With that heard, I drifted off to eternal slumber not knowing the outcome of the war and how the world was going to recover. All I knew was, Love was lost that day.
