Chereads / 30 Days of July 2022 / Chapter 10 - 10th July

Chapter 10 - 10th July

So…

Today's the day, huh?

I gotta go to the amusement park with my family and spend some time with them. Not the worst thing I can imagine, but amusement parks do get rather noisy, especially on weekends.

From what I can recall, my Dad has a day off today, and my Mom just doesn't work on Sundays.

Wanna hear a story?

Listen up, tuck in your sheets, this is gonna be a bedtime story.

Once upon a time, there was a magical Leprechaun. If you catch the Leprechaun, he will lead you to the pot of gold he was hiding. See, the problem here is that this particular Leprechaun really sucks at hiding, so in a span of a week, he was caught five separate times. This understandably results in all five groups setting out on a legendary journey to claim the pot of gold that they so 'deserved'.

Does this Leprechaun know what inflation is?

Anyways, these groups had absolutely no idea there were other groups set out on the same journey. So when they all gathered at the pot of gold, they each found out that the Leprechaun had told them all the same thing.

Those people then set out to kill the Leprechaun for lying to them.

Having already been caught five times, the Leprechaun had already long abandoned the human realm. Instead, he had gone to the Dragon realm. When he had gotten there, he was caught by a dragon who also got the location of the pot of gold.

Afterwards, the Leprechaun fled to the Elf realm and similarly got caught by the chief elf, who sent out an expedition team to claim the mysterious pot of gold.

The Leprechaun eventually managed to get back home to see his pot of gold empty, as expected.

However, what he had missed was the Dragon and the elves both seeing the humans take the gold. The Dragon also noticed the elves and vice versa. The dragon thought the humans had stolen its property and the elves thought the same. The Dragon also thought the elves followed it and was prepared for a chance to strike it. The elves thought the dragon followed them for a chance to assassinate them as well.

After the humans left, the Dragon and elves engaged in combat. The elves were killed except for one who retreated to tell the village chief what had happened. The Dragon, now injured from the fight, retreated back to its cave to heal.

While the humans went searching for the Leprechaun, the Dragon went to battle with the elf village and was eventually killed in the battle. The elves then raided the human village in search of gold.

A local gang of goblins also got themselves involved, raiding at the same time as the elves, managing to successfully do so after many failed attempts in the past. With the human civilisation in shambles, they were easily taken down, but the gold was nowhere to be seen. Turns out, the humans who had gotten the gold agreed to keep the gold in a secret location until they found the Leprechaun.

So now, the hunt begins for the humans who knew where the new pot of gold was.

The elves caught one of them, recognising him as one of the humans who had been at the original location of the gold. The human, after being caught, spilt the beans and told the elves where the gold was.

Obviously, this became a big thing in this magical world, so other creatures also sought out the humans who knew the location. Thing is, this human absolutely sucks at staying hidden, so he's found by some harpies, gargoyles and centaurs. The guy spills and ends up sending three other excursions toward that sweet sweet gold.

A similar conflict occurs and sends four races fighting against each other. The elves, now tired from having fought so much, get utterly destroyed to the point that they sue for peace. The harpies and gargoyles can fly, but Centaurs know how to shoot arrows. Gargoyles also turn into stone during the day, they are easily destructible.

The winners ended up being the harpies, who took the gold for themselves. However, for fear of being seen with a large sum of gold, they moved it to a new location where they could easily gain access to it at any time. The excursion team also got greedy and agreed not to inform any other harpy. Instead, lying and say that they were warded off by the centaurs.

This incited a battle between the Harpies and the Centaurs which saw a ton of bloodshed, coincidentally resulting in the deaths of the Harpies who knew the location of the gold.

Now nowhere to be found, the gold basically disappeared from the face of the planet.

Until a certain Leprechaun, using his lucky sense of direction, found the pot of gold again.

Do you see where I'm going with this? Imagine doing all of that just to get basically all the gold back.

Probably one of the longer stories I've told, but I find it pretty funny and ironic. I'm not sure if I'm using 'ironic' correctly, but I don't care. So right, today, there's a certain event that is about to take place.

Family. Outing.

I'm just hoping Fable is as excited about it as I am, cause I doubt this outing is going to be cancelled. Well, my Mom seems excited to go, so I guess it isn't too bad.

Hey Mom, why?

Tell me why~

I was already on the ground when I woke up to noise. I let out a long mental groan before getting onto my feet. Outside, I could hear dad shout, "Fable! ---! Get ready, we'll be leaving soon!"

Someone, presumably dad, proceeded to knock on my door.

I ignored him and went to the washroom that was connected to my room. I washed up my face and took a shower. In the shower, I was thinking about what to wear, and what would be practical. Firstly, I doubt I would be wearing glasses, so contacts it is! Secondly, long pants all the way, especially if I have to go on a roller coaster ride. Thirdly, maybe a hat in case it gets too sunny.

Got my outfit.

I wore a pair of black jeans I'm pretty sure I've worn recently. I found a white cap, so I'm just gonna wear it. I also wore vertical black and white stripes with the text in alternate colours 'Madisaon'. Was that the brand or something? I wouldn't know, my Mom probably bought it for me. I looked at myself in the mirror, and dang I do be looking like Beetlejuice out here.

All I need to do is become a dude, get the voice and become dead.

Anyways, I stepped out of my room, my family already scrambling to get ready. Fable was just sitting on the couch, not looking at a device for once. He looked rather unhappy to be alive at the moment, so I just had to make his day better by talking to him.

Before I could though, my Mom walked over to me to help adjust my already adjusted outfit. She gave me a look, saying, "Dressing stylish today? I've never seen you wear that shirt ever since I bought it for you."

"We'll be having breakfast on the way there," Dad filled me in. "Lunch will be at the amusement park and dinner will be at a nearby restaurant."

I nodded.

My Mom turned my head toward her and stared into my eyes. I did a little wink, which made her smile. She commented, "Yeah, that's a nice green colour."

What can I say, Mom? I've got a great sense of style.

"The green hair fits in this outfit, I guess?" She said uncertainly. "Like, the bright spot in a dull colour kinda vibe."

Never knew my Mom was a fashionista. I have no idea how I looked to other people, all I can say is that I would definitely stand out in a crowd. Wearing boring clothes, please, be more creative You want to blend in? No problem, just wear a shirt, a pair of skinny jeans and a pair of sneakers. Your stealth level is on par with Solid Snake in a cardboard box.

Seriously though, I could go out with the outfit I'm currently wearing and probably get a few looks, but people would probably forget me in about five minutes.

Who knows? I probably got my sense of style from my Mom.

To go to the amusement park, my Mom was wearing long pants, a shirt and a jacket over it. Boyish, but that's our style, I guess.

Dad walked over again, telling us, "Let's start getting a move on, otherwise it might get crowded."

"Let's get a move on then," My Mom said, smiling widely.

She patted my arm and dragged me towards the shoe rack by the arm. She said to me, "Isn't this great? We finally get to go out and have fun as a whole family. First time in what? Three years?"

Fourth, actually.

School's been a thing, and Fable rarely ever agrees to leave his gaming setup, especially in the past. My Mom didn't have a stable job until recently and had just been bouncing around part-time jobs, so that was a thing. Meanwhile, I just go to school, being myself.

Fable was wearing a basic hoodie. Huh, didn't know he even had a hoodie.

"You're awfully quiet today," My Mom commented as we made our way to the car.

Fable and dad were ahead of us. My Mom had slowed down so we could talk in private. She stuck close to me, talking normally.

Honestly, I don't feel like talking today. A bunch of things have been running through my mind, and I'm tired for some reason. It's been a while since I've felt this lack of energy. Dang, I'm supposed to relax on weekends, but I've been doing way too much.

I pointed at my throat, trying to send some sort of signal across. My Mom raised an eyebrow, asking, "Are we playing a guessing game now? Charades? You know I'm a master of charades."

I nodded.

"Okay, so you aren't talking, is there something wrong with your throat?" She asked me.

I nodded again.

"Alright, what did you do yesterday?"

What did I even do yesterday? I talked to Catherine, then I went to talk with Doctor Lisa. I didn't actually do much, huh?

I used my hand to mimic speaking. My Mom guessed, "You talked? Or you ate something bad?"

I used a finger and mimicked a bouncing action to the left, kinda like a skip backwards kinda motion my Mom and I use. She continued, "So you talked a lot yesterday and now your throat hurts?"

I silently clapped for her before giving her a hug.

She laughed and hugged me back.

We in the car now. My Mom got the shotgun seat and dad got the driver's seat. Fable and I sat at the back, me behind my Mom and Fable behind dad.

"You're not being as noisy as you've been the past week," Fable commented just as the car started.

Dang, the day barely started and people are already treating me like a weirdo.

"She has a sore throat, so don't pester her too much about it," My Mom said to Fable. "Oh, and Fable, tell us more about Yin."

"Huh?" Fable asked.

Nice assist Mom, knew I could always count on you.

"Yeah, all of us have been curious about it," My Mom continued. "Right?"

Dad nodded. I glanced at Fable, who looked like he was not liking the vibe in the car. I smirked at him. He shot me a look before replying, "It's been alright. We've been hanging out more and going on dates when we can."

Perhaps, last Friday?

"Where were you last Friday?" Dad asked out of curiosity. "I remember --- was home in the morning, but I didn't see you around."

"He wasn't?" My Mom asked, her eyes gleaming with excitement. "It was a school holiday, right? Spill."

"I went on a date with Yin," Fable said, his face obviously redder.

"And?"

"We went to watch a movie then went ice skating, that's all," Fable told her, crossing his arms.

"Did you pay for her lunch?"

"Yeah?"

My Mom looked back at the road. Dad was probably way too concentrated on driving to properly engage in a conversation. I like where this conversation is going. We can continue to knock down Fable.

"Anyone wanna do a picnic with teddy bears?" My Mom suggested out of nowhere.

Why?

"Why?" Fable asked.

Thanks, bro.

"I dunno, heard about it from a colleague of mine. It seems pretty popular with kids, so I thought one of you kids might enjoy doing something like that."

I don't think it's popular at all, much less popular amongst kids. It just seems like a weird thing to do, huh? Imagine seeing someone at a park with a bunch of teddy bears and some food going 'Oh, don't mind me, I'm just enjoying time with the people I love, and by people, I mean the inanimate objects around me.'

Creepy.

"We're basically 18," Fable argued.

Oh yeah, and also what he said!

"--- is, you're not," My Mom laughed.

"In the eyes of the law, I am an adult," Fable countered

"In the eyes of your mother, you're still a minor," My Mom countered his counter.

Fable let out a sigh before leaning back into his seat. He faced me, so I stuck out a tongue. Fable gave up and accepted his fate of never being able to escape.

Ha.

Good move on my part, if you ask me. I get to see my Mom hound Fable. What can I say? We have the same sense of humour.

"We're stopping here for breakfast," Dad announced.

Stepping out of the car, I could see a small restaurant that just kinda exists. There weren't many people there, but it seems pretty nice, even if it didn't have air conditioning. I was about to head towards that place before my Mom pulled me somewhere else.

"Where are you going?" My Mom laughed. "We're headed to the one further down the street."

Why didn't he stop the car closer then? Wait, scratch that, there are not many parking spots available.

"This place is famous for their beef noodles," Dad told us as we made our way there. "Thought we might want to try it out. Afterwards, we can head to the amusement park. Take our time with the rides, you know."

"Wouldn't it be too heavy for a meal right before an amusement park?" My Mom asked a legitimate question.

"I heard that it's surprisingly not that heavy at all."

The dish was some noodles covered in sauce with shredded beef in it. Wherever dad heard that piece of information from, it was true. Though I'm not sure how I'll actually hold out on the rides themselves.

Back in the car and off we go.

I was just chilling in the backseat of the car, even folding my legs on the car seat while a discussion began. It all started when my Mom asked Fable, "You know, I don't think we've ever talked about this. How did you meet Yin?"

"Is there really nothing else to talk about except my girlfriend?" Fable countered.

"Yes. Now answer the question."

"Why don't you ask --- something?" Fable tried to sneak his way out of the conversation. "Like what she's been doing out of the house so much."

Dear Fable, it's not so complicated.

"We can ask her next time," My Mom insisted. "For now, I want to know how you met Yin. Knowing you, it probably wasn't so romantic."

"Hey!"

My Mom laughed, eventually quietening down to let Fable talk. He folded his arms, leaning back into his seat. "We're in different classes. I have a friend who has a crush on one of the Volleyball girls, so we went over to watch the girls play a match one day."

"A man captivated by the strength of a woman?" My Mom dramatised.

"No. Yin didn't play that game cause she was injured at the time," Fable responded. "I was walking around cause I got bored-"

Of course, you would.

"Of course, you would," My Mom sighed.

"What? How can I enjoy watching a sport if I don't even know the rules?" Fable defended himself. "Besides, even my friend said it was boring."

"Idiots think alike, huh?" My Mom joked.

Nice one, Mom!

Fable grunted before continuing. "I bumped into Yin, who was also walking around cause she had nothing else to do. Before you ask, she had a wrist injury, so she could still walk, okay?"

"Okay," My Mom nodded. "So you two chatted?"

"A little," He shrugged. "She was lost or something, so I helped her find her way."

Dad was giving little input, but I could tell what he was gonna ask. Looking at Fable, I could tell that he knew what was likely going to be asked. My Mom knew exactly what everyone else in the car wanted to know and what Fable expected to be asked.

So she asked a different question instead.

"What did you two even talk about?" She asked Fable.

The old switch always works to build pressure. Good one.

"I can't remember that clearly," Fable told her. "Something about the match."

"Then how did you confess?"

There it is!

"Why do you want to know?" Fable started arguing. "It's not like you need to know about this."

"We're your parents," My Mom stated.

Wow, an entire argument was brought down with three words. Fable, you gotta up your game, and I don't mean your gaming.

"I asked her to meet me in the garden when there weren't too many people, then I confessed," He said, looking away from my Mom.

"That's good," My Mom nodded. "You know, Yin seems like a good girl. You better hold onto her, okay?"

I pulled my phone out and sent a text to Fable.

He pulled his phone out, confused. I sent the text 'How long have y'all been dating anyway?'

"Two or three months," He told me.

Look at my little bro. He's already looking for responsibility and is committed to a single person. How mature. Though, it's tough to say if the other person in that relationship is as committed as he is.

"When's the marriage?" My Mom asked jokingly.

"What?" Fable exclaimed.

"Just kidding," My Mom laughed, waving the question aside. "Seriously though, if you two ever get married, I'll make sure it's the best wedding ever!"

"Then what about ---? What happens if she gets married?" Fable asked.

Yeah, what?

"I doubt she'll get married, right dear?" My Mom said, reaching backwards from where she sat. "You'll stay with me until I die, right?"

I smirked and held onto her arm.

"And I don't think I'm ready to give my daughter up yet," She added on. "Fable, you're a man, we're throwing you out of the house one day."

"That's unfair," Fable grumbled.

"Seriously though, the moment you get a sustainable job, we're kicking you out," Dad added on.

"But --- stays with me," My Mom said. "She can stay as long as she would like."

I know I'm with my family, but I've been hearing my name quite a bit. Have you ever had this experience where you hear your name being called out so much that you just straight-up forget that it's your name? I have had that experience way too many times. Someone would call out my name and I wouldn't respond. A minute later I'll just go 'Oh right, that's me.'

"We're almost there," Dad announced.

"Sure, let's skip over the fact that you want to just kick me out of the house," Fable rolled his eyes."

"Well, it's not too complicated," My mom tried to simplify. "When you're twenty, get your ass outta my house."

Fable scoffed, a smile on his face.

The car came to a stop at the parking lot of the amusement park. There were a bunch of other cars. It feels like a total nightmare to be out here, especially since the weather isn't the coldest out here. Normally, it isn't too bad, but with the cars and all, it feels much worse. At least I can pretend like it doesn't affect me. Fable certainly looks affected.

My Mom was absolutely fine with everything, pushing the pace of our family outing. She held onto my arm as we started walking, saying to me, "We've gotta ride the fastest ride! I heard kids would scream when they get on."

Again, Mom, we're not kids.

"I don't think I can get on anything too crazy," Dad said, looking worriedly at the rides. "The young ones can have fun, I'll just wait for y'all."

"Really? That sounds really boring," My Mom commented.

"Wait, you're getting on too?"

"Obviously, that's the whole point of amusement parks, no?" My Mom raised an eyebrow. "Too bad you have to sit out. All alone, waiting for us to finish our rides."

He sighed, shaking his head. "Seriously, I'm too old for this, but you three can go ahead. I'll be waiting nearby."

"Wonder if they have ice cream," My Mom just muttered.

Same!

We checked into the place and were given these cool bracelet things made of plastic. It's either made of plastic or made of paper, I honestly can't tell. Point is, it's this thing they'll wrap around your wrist to prove that you've passed the counter. I like to wear mine loose and then pull it higher along my arm.

We're in~

"Fable, are you afraid of heights?" My Mom asked.

"Not particularly," He answered nonchalantly.

"Then you would have no problem with climbing a tower to take a ride, right?"

"Climb what now?"

Indeed, the fastest and tallest ride in the amusement park was accessed by a tower about three stories high. It's a cool design, and many people love riding that ride. I've personally never gone on, and neither has my Mom, but she has all the energy in the world.

To no one's surprise, we climbed that dang tower.

Just to find out there was an elevator smart people took to get up.

Dammit.

We took the ride. I guess it was fun? Not my kind of entertainment though. I don't really like high speeds and all that, so rollercoasters don't do it for me. I much prefer spending my own sweet time observing things, or just watching a play. I threw my hands in the air like I just don't care for the effect.

Also, my Mom's by my side, so I don't want to make her feel awkward.

There were a lot of screams, and I don't know why. But I guess it makes the rides more fun or something? I don't know, not one to frequent rides.

"Wasn't that fun?" My Mom declared after we got down. "I feel alive again!"

I nodded along with her while smiling. Fable was gasping for air as he held onto the nearest lamppost. He pointed up at the sky, saying, "No one told me it would go three-sixty."

Maybe just look at the track next time, genius.

"It's obvious when you look at the track," My Mom told him, gesturing to the track. "See? It clearly goes upside-down four times."

"Not a fan," He said, continuing to walk.

"Then let's take it easy," My Mom offered. "Go to the slower and simpler ride, hm? If you don't wanna ride, then you can join your Dad at the cafe. He's waiting there for us to stop by and have lunch."

"I'd rather take the rides," Fable decided. "Sitting down with Dad for hours seems like a pain in the ass."

My Mom gave the 'I'm the greater parent cause I made our son side with me because his Dad is too boring to be around, therefore I am victorious!' look.

Also, surprised to see Fable decide not to be a lazy ass and do an activity for once.

We made our way to several more rides. Most of them felt the same and none of them was as exciting as the first one. My Mom seemed to love everything though, considering how she continuously screamed on every ride. Granted, it's one of the few times we could go to an amusement park.

For lunch, we went over to the cafe where dad was waiting.

He just sat there, all alone and looking at his phone. So that's where Fable got his habit of looking at his phone.

"Have you been waiting long?" My Mom asked him.

We sat at the table, dad putting his phone away when we did. He put up a small smile, replying, "Of course, I waited long."

"Sorry, sorry, not sorry," My Mom said playfully. "We were out having fun and you didn't want to join us, that's all."

We ordered some overpriced pasta for lunch. After eating, we sat around to chat while our stomachs digested the food. By 'we', I mean everyone except me.

"I was thinking that we head over to the 7D movie ride thing," My Mom told all of us. "Surely your old bones are up to the task?"

She nudged dad, who simply shifted away. "Yeah, I think I can do it, as long as it's nothing too crazy."

"I heard the car falls off a building," My Mom added.

Of all the information she could have given, she decided to give that. Can't say I'm surprised.

"You're joking."

"If I was joking, I would have made it scarier," My Mom laughed.

"A car falling off a building is scary enough," Dad argued.

"Don't be such a wuss, let's go together!" My Mom tried to convince him. "Otherwise, this would be less of a family outing and more of me and the kids."

"Fine, I'll go, but if I get a heart attack or anything, just know that it's your fault," Dad said, crossing his arms.

Fable scoffed. "I don't think you're that old to get a heart attack that easily."

My Mom leaned closer to Fable to talk but was very audible to everyone else at the table. "It's not about age, it's about his weight."

"I am not obese!" Dad defended himself. "Just slightly overweight."

I let out a silent laugh when everyone else started laughing too. My Mom then faced me, asking, "So, anything you wanna do before we head over?"

I shook my head.

My Mom clapped, startling us and some others. "You know, turkey legs are popular in amusement parks! We've got to try some of it, okay?"

"Who's gonna eat it then?" Fable asked.

"All of us," My Mom answered. "Mostly your Dad."

Let's get a move on.

On our way to the ride, we took family photos whenever my Mom felt like it. Fable tried to smile in as many of them as possible, but at some point, he just gave up and covered the lower half of his face instead.

There was a pretty long line at the ride, but nothing we can't afford to wait for.

Absolutely bored from five whole minutes of waiting, my Mom pointed at Fable. "Fable, tell us a joke right now or I'm kicking you out of the house right now."

"That seems unfair," Fable grumbled.

"It doesn't seem unfair cause it is unfair."

Fable sighed before glancing over at me for some help. I simply shrugged. I enjoyed watching Fable struggle throughout the day.

Fable scratched his head before saying, "Knock Knock."

"Lame," My Mom complained.

"I haven't even started the joke," Fable said.

"Knock Knock jokes are overused, be more creative next time," My Mom told him. "C'mon, tell us a different joke."

"It isn't that easy to come up with jokes," Fable complained.

"--- would come up with one really quickly," My Mom countered.

I nodded in agreement.

"I remember --- telling me a joke last week," Dad said.

"Oh, do tell," My Mom insisted.

"It was pretty gruesome though," Dad told her. "It was something about two best friends who always had each other's back is met with the Grim Reaper. Some discussion happened and it was agreed that they both died?"

"Ohhhhh!" My Mom smiled. "It's that one! I remember her telling me a version of it in the past."

She then faced me. "Did you tell your dad the second part of it?"

I shook my head.

"I love that joke," My Mom told me. "I don't know why it works, but it made me laugh tons back then."

See? We got the same sense of humour.

"I don't understand what's so funny," Fable stated.

"Cause the first part talks about friends, but because they love each other so much, they pissed the Grim Reaper off by insisting they should die instead of the other. Then the second part is about two people who hate each other, so the same effect was achieved," My Mom tried to explain it to Fable. "But in reality, they never pissed off the Grim Reaper, they just took way too long to decide, so they both died anyway."

Fable looked as confused as ever.

"It isn't funny when someone explains it," My Mom folded her arms. "Now, don't try to run away, you still gotta tell a joke."

"Shit."

"No cursing," My Mom warned.

"You curse all the time," Fable countered. "So does ---."

"You're not 18 yet."

Fable gave up and leaned against the handrail, thinking of a passable joke that might get spare him from my Mom. Eventually, he came up with, "Okay, what's the similarity between strawberries and my music playlist?"

"What?"

"It's my jam."

"Lame."

"I don't go around thinking up lame jokes, okay?"

My Mom laughed and waved him off, telling him, "You're just not funny. How are you going to keep a girlfriend if your only personality trait is that you're a gamer?"

Fable gave up, looking away.

So we got on the ride. Unfortunately, dad got a little sick from the ride, so my Mom had to stay with him for a bit. She suggested we go to the next ride ourselves and have that sibling bonding time.

While waiting for the ride, Fable started grumbling to me, "I know damn well you can talk. You're just leaving me out here to deal with Mom."

"But it's funny," I finally said, grinning. "Seeing you struggle while I get to sit back."

"Don't you love talking?" Fable sighed.

"I'm a little tired today, okay?" I replied, folding my arms. "Went to Doctor Lisa's yesterday and I can pretty much guess what our dear parents are trying to do."

"What's that?" Fable asked. "It can't be kicking you out of the house, can it?"

I shook my head, chuckling slightly. I faced him, his neutral expression changing into one of concern. I said to him, "They're planning to send me to the mental hospital."

"You're…" Fable muttered, pointing at my face.

I looked away. I rubbed my eyes a few times before looking back at him. My smile was on the entire time, what's he so worried about?

"That's just a theory though," I shrugged, laughing it off. "Who knows what they're actually thinking. Good news though, I'm pretty sure Doctor Lisa is on my side."

"Just a theory," Fable nodded along. "Great, so we both might get kicked out of the house."

"Don't worry, you can always run to Yin's place," I joked.

"Can y'all stop it with the girlfriend talk?" Fable complained. "Is there literally nothing else y'all can talk to me about?"

"What? What's your favourite game, bro?"

He sighed and gave up.

I continued waiting. After the ride, we started walking back to where my Mom said she would meet us.

"I don't think Mom will agree to something like that," Fable commented.

"Like what?" I raised an eyebrow.

"The whole mental hospital thing."

"Right, right," I nodded. "Who knows? She may very well be the one who came up with this idea."

We made it there. I smiled widely and waved at my Mom. We approached them, Fable whispering, "Just crossed my mind, why are you telling me this?"

"What did Fable talk about while you two were waiting?" My Mom asked.

I shrugged.

"Wait, --- talked too," Fable argued.

I raised an eyebrow before looking back at my Mom, making Fable look like the weirdo. My Mom laughed and waved Fable's comment off.

That evening, on the way to the restaurant, I texted Fable.

'Cause, no one will believe you.'

He glanced over at me, clearly having read the message. I then deleted the message before he could do anything else. I put a finger to my lips. He looked away, so I looked out of the window as well.

"The place we're going has really good lasagna," Dad said.

"That's nice," My Mom replied. "We have to try it."

That's right, just a normal family here. Nothing to be seen.
