Chapter 34 - Please Don't Leave

Damien stared dangerously at her with what seemed like anger in his eyes, and Layah swallowed hard.

She stepped back in fear, but Damien quickly grabbed her wrist and pulled her back.

"I asked you a question!" He said it in a deep, deadly tone, and Layah's lips trembled as she found herself unable to say a word.

Being talkative definitely isn't so good.

She bit her lower lip and gulped yet again. "I am...sorry. It was a slip of the tongue."

She apologized, but Damien gazed at her without uttering a word. It was as though he had suddenly fallen into a daze.

Layah's expression scrunched in a bit of confusion, and she waved her hand in front of his face. "Damien..."

She called his name, and as though snapped out of his daze, he lowered his head to look at her.

He quickly let go of her wrist and stepped away from her.

"Get out." He said to her in a cold voice, but Layah, who couldn't understand why he had suddenly become so angry with her, looked at him as though trying to figure it out.

He definitely can't be this mad at her just because she called him Death General, could he?

She asked herself and abruptly jolted in shock when his angry, loud voice resounded in the room.

"I said, GET OUT!" He yelled at her, and completely filled with sudden fear, Layah quickly turned around and rushed out of the chamber.

She ran straight to her chamber and immediately the guards pulled the door open for her, she stepped in and shut it behind her.

Her chest rose and fell in anxiety, and finally, when she calmed down and got rid of that feeling, she walked to the chair and sat down.

'Why did I feel so afraid? I have never felt such fear before!' She pondered in her heart and rubbed her temples to calm down.

"It's fine... It's fine... " She said to herself and took off her shoes.

She climbed into the bed and laid down.

A deep breath of relief exited her nose and she shut her eyes, ready to go to sleep, However, everything suddenly went silent in the next moment.

Even the muffled voices of the guards who were discussing, she couldn't hear anymore.

She immediately opened her eyes and sat up on the bed.

A frown settled in between her brows, and she instantly turned her head when a strange voice called her name.

"Layah..."

"Who's there?" She asked, but no response came.

"Layah..." The mysterious male voice called yet again, and Layah quickly jumped out of the bed.

Her heart pounded widely within her and she frantically looked around in search of who the voice belonged to.

Could she be hallucinating? But that's impossible...

She disagreed with herself and continued looking around the room with a bit of a nervous expression on her face.

"Layah..."

"Who are you?!What do you want?!" She asked in an angry voice, and the mysterious voice began to laugh hysterically.

"I'm invisible to you, girl. No matter how much you search, you won't find me. So save yourself the stress."

He chuckled softly, and suddenly realizing that the voice was coming from one of the walls of her room, she slowly began to step away.

She stepped back, and once she was close to the door, she pushed it open and ran outside.

She dashed towards Damien's chamber, and without even waiting for the guards to push the door open for her, she pushed it open by herself and hurried inside.

"Damien!" She called him, and Damien, who was already lying on his bed, ready to sleep, opened his eyes and quickly got off the bed.

His gaze fell on her, and before he could utter a word, Layah rushed towards him and hugged him tightly with a look of dread in her eyes.

"Damien... the-there was a ghost. It was in the walls, I swear." She tried to explain, but Damien who had no idea of what she was talking about, grabbed her arms and pushed her away.

"What are you talking about?" He asked, and Layah grabbed the fabric of her dress in nervousness. "A ghost. It was in my chambers. I heard it and--"

"There is no ghost in this castle. Stop being silly. Also, stop barging into my chambers whenever you want. I will slit you in half the next time you do so."

He cut her off before she could finish her words and turned around to walk to his bed, but Layah grabbed him by the arm and stopped him on his track.

"I know I can be silly, but please believe me. There is really a ghost in my room."

She pleaded, and Damien turned around to look at her.

His brows furrowed, and without saying a word, he slipped his feet into his shoes and grabbed her wrist.

"Fine! Let me see who this ghost is. "

Ignoring the fact that he was still clad in his white night clothing, he walked out of the chamber towards her chamber while pulling her along.

They arrived in front of the door, and he pushed it open.

He walked inside and glanced around with an annoyed expression on his face.

"Where is the ghost?" He turned to her, but his eyes instantly narrowed when he saw her completely still with a look of terror in her eyes.

"You silly girl, what are you doing now?"

He asked, but on getting no response from her, he quickly grabbed her shoulder and frantically shook her.

"Layah!! What is going on with you?" He inquired, but just like before, he got no response.

Deep apprehension that he had never felt before arose within him, and before he could do anything, Layah grabbed him and hugged him tightly in fright.

"Please don't leave me. I am afraid." She said and buried her face in his chest, wanting to stop hearing the creepy voice.

Damien, who was still in shock, gazed at her and gently wrapped his arms around her.

He tenderly caressed her hair to calm her down and let out a low breath.

"It's... alright." He reluctantly said and walked her towards the bed to lay her down.

"Go to sleep," he said to her, and once he had tucked her into bed, he turned around to leave, but Layah gripped his hand and pulled him into the bed, then embraced him tightly with the terrified expression still visible on her face.

"Please don't leave. I can still hear the voice." She pleaded with him, and as much as he didn't want to stay, he shut his mind and eventually stayed.

"This will never happen again." He cautioned himself, as he knew that he shouldn't be doing this for the daughter of the one who murdered his whole family.

A deep breath flee his nose and he became still when Layah cuddled even closer to him and buried her face in his chest.
