Chapter 4 - Suspicious

This was the first time since she had arrived here that someone showed her kindness; Jiang Yue's heart felt warm, but she shook her head, "No need, uncle. Your family isn't wealthy either; I shouldn't burden you."

Burden?

Such a small child already knew what it meant to be a burden?

Xue Yan's eyes narrowed slightly.

"What's this about being a burden or not? It's just an extra mouth to feed," Xue Dafu immediately said. "If you don't go back with Dafu, and something happens to you, how could I live with myself for the rest of my life? Come on, come on, consider it a favor to give me peace of mind and go back with Dafu."

Like shooing a duck, Xue Dafu bent over and, with wide open arms, herded her back relentlessly.

Jiang Yue: "..."

"Xue Yan," Xue Dafu continued herding while calling back to Xue Yan, "what are you standing there for? Come over and take your sister home. Forget the firewood; just take care of your sister. It's tough to walk in the fields; you can't manage both the firewood and your sister."

So now she had a sister?

Xue Yan felt helpless and knew well his father's personality. However, he didn't put down the firewood; instead, he came over with it on his back. He didn't immediately reach out to lead Jiang Yue but calmly asked, "Dad, who did Yue Bao originally belong to?"

Xue Dafu answered without a second thought, "The Jiang family from the village next door. You haven't met them, but your mother and I have seen them many times."

Xue Yan was stunned.

In his previous life, hadn't Jiang's daughter died of illness soon after Jiang's wife passed away? So who was this well and alive before him?

Involuntarily, Xue Yan turned to look at Jiang Yue, his eyes slightly narrowing.

Jiang Yue frowned. What was the matter with Xue Yan? Why did he seem to know something?

Xue Yan, as if he hadn't noticed her frown, calmly withdrew his gaze and spoke leisurely to his father, "Then her eldest uncle must be Jiang, right? I've heard Jiang is not easy to deal with, and his family isn't any better. If you want to take her home, it's best to have her completely sever ties first and get the disowning contract, once and for all."

Jiang Yue fell into thought. To think so thoroughly, was this really a seven-year-old child? Some adults might not even be able to think this far ahead.

A child prodigy indeed?

Or... was he like her? Was the soul inside him actually an adult?

That's right, this person suddenly stopped going to school in town, hadn't he...

The likelihood was quite high...

Xue Yan knew that Jiang Yue was watching him, and he knew she felt that something was off about him, but he didn't look at her, letting her watch him.

"Disowning contract..." Xue Dafu was troubled. "Having that would indeed be good, but how would Jiang agree to disown Yue Bao..."

"Here." Suddenly, Jiang Yue took out a piece of paper from her bosom and handed it to Xue Yan, who could read.

Xue Yan did not take it but asked, "What is it?"

Jiang Yue: "The disowning contract."

Xue Yan was taken aback.

Immediately after, he had a rough idea. This person might also have been reborn. In any case, she was certainly not the original Jiang Yue.

Xue Yan inevitably felt a sense of camaraderie, and so he looked once more at Jiang Yue standing before him.

Jiang Yue let Xue Yan look at her.

Without fear.

She had come to a realization; she could not live in the mountains for the rest of her life. It would be better to take this opportunity and go home with the kind Xue Dafu.

She would repay Xue Dafu well in the future.

"A disowning contract? That's great!" Xue Dafu snatched it over, unable to contain his joy. "Fantastic! Yue Bao, how did you come to have this?" His eyes were glued to the disowning contract, even though he couldn't read a single word.

Jiang Yue: "I asked my eldest uncle for it, and they gave it to me."
