Ethan squinted his eyes to read the news article.
He saw from the top left corner that the website posted the news a month ago.
Ethan read aloud.
"The WMO.cops found Mrs. Rose close to death's door at her residence."
The cameras captured that the deed was done by thugs. Current investigations are still going on.
Further development will be updated.
Ethan heaved a sigh. He put down his phone and lay on the bed.
Only Kai Boulder comes to his mind as the culprit. No one else came to his mind.
Ethan had noticed Kai acting arrogant again. He acted as though he had won the lottery.
"so that's why he acted like that. He had her beaten up." Realization hit him.
He always underestimated what Kai could do, and now it had bitten him in the ass.
Ethan wondered how Helen was doing now. It must have hit hard, Ethan thought.
Ethan's hand shook visibly. He quickly gulped down a bottle of water at the side of his bed.
He switched off his phone and blacked out on the bed.
He woke up after a while. But as he woke up, the thoughts flooded his head again.
He had messed up. He regretted what he did to Kai. But he also knew Kai deserved it. And if it happened again, he would repeat it over and over again.
The day went by slowly as hell. Ethan stared at the alarm seated at the side of his bed.
If he had space ability, he would have fast-forwarded time.
He had never wanted to see the next day as badly as this before.
He checked his watch again. It was midnight, but he couldn't get any sleep. Anytime he lay his head, he saw Mrs. Rose.
The woman was the kindest person he had ever met, unlike those bitches that called themselves his stepmom.
Ethan stared at the ceiling of his room until he drifted to sleep.
*Beep beep beep.
The familiar alarm woke all the students up.
Ethan jumped up from his bed. He took his bath and left the room. He skipped all the morning classes. After the war room class, he went to the elite hall.
Students filled the hall as usual as various fuels went on, but one particular spot had more students.
Out of curiosity, Ethan shuffled through the crowd.
He halted his steps when he saw who was fighting.
But his shock turned into a smile. Noah was in action, but the white uniform Noah had on made Ethan smile.
"At least nothing happened to him." Ethan felt relieved, but he hadn't seen Ileus or Helen.
Ethan gazed around and saw the pale-skinned vampire also in a fight with another elite student.
"Ok, that's two now. One remaining," Ethan muttered as he looked around, trying to catch a glimpse of Helen.
After staring for a while, he gave up.
"She didn't make it, huh?"
Ethan didn't expect to see Helen, after all. She wasn't that capable, but since she had become his friend, he tried his luck.
Sometime later, the two fights finished, with both Noah and Ileus winning their fights.
Ethan approaches them with a wide smile. They too sighted him and started smiling like idiots.
He missed these guys, and they missed him too. Ethan knew that.
"What took you this long?" Ethan said, with a smile.
"It was this slacker's fault." Noah playfully slapped Ileus's shoulder.
Since Ethan became an elite student, they have put more pressure on their training. No slacking. They made that rule for themselves. After every class, Ileus and Noah would train constantly inside the training room. It got to a point where the room reeked of only sweaty odor, but it seems like their hard work paid off.
" What about Helen?" Ethan broke the silence.
Noah and Ileus looked away, trying to avoid Ethan's gaze.
Ethan had the uncomfortable expression they had on their faces.
"Come on, we need to catch up." Noah changed the topic.
They look bad in the area of acting. Ethan saw the restlessness written on their faces boldly.
Something was wrong, and he knew it had to do with Mrs. Rose and Helen.
On their way, they walked past several more elite students who seemed to be doing their things.
The students didn't find anything odd with Noah and Ileus since they wore white elite uniforms as well.
"Your treat?" Noah said shamelessly. "It's our first day, so the spending is on you."
"Just say, you are saving your points," Ethan said.
He had missed this company for months now. All the other students hung around with each other, but he hung alone until someone who had become close to him.
"What are you up to?" Ethan heard the voice of the person he thought was thinking about.
"Didn't see you coming," Ethan said.
"Saw you passing by with these." Layla looked up at Noah and Ileus.
"I know this one." She waved at Noah.
"But you. You're friends with him too? "
"Yeah," Ileus said, returning his gaze to the front.
"Where are we heading to?" Layla asked.
"To the canteen."
----
Ethan, Noah, Ileus, and Layla occupied a table close to the bar.
"What's your order?" a slim waiter said.
"What do you guys want?" Ethan turned to the others at the table.
They all made their orders.
After a while, the waiter returned.
Layla ordered an orange juice. Ethan doesn't know, but maybe it's because she was a girl. But the two males ordered whiskey and a bottle of champagne. Ethan too ordered champagne.
He waited for them to taste their drinks before dropping the question in his mind. It would look rude if he just went straight and started asking questions.
After they all had their drinks, Ethan cleared his throat.
Everyone looked at him as they noticed he wanted to say something. But Ileus and Noah already knew what he wanted to say, but they knew that it couldn't be hidden forever.
"What happened to Helen?" Ethan faced Noah and Ileus.
Layla didn't know who they were talking about, but from the sound of the name, she knew it had to be a woman, a woman who Ethan cared for.
Ileus and Noah dropped their cups, but no one answered.
Ethan repeated his question.
"What happened to Helen?"
