Dionysus was a god with many conflicting origins and variations, what was called Mysteries of Dionysus. His birth, his life, and even his importance in the pantheon varied even among his followers, and what remains congruent was his representation of the free-spirited, his love for wine and celebrations, and his status as the son of Zeus.
He also held many epithets, and was considered a 'roaming god' for his many travels in foreign places.
One of his epithets was Dimetor or 'twice-born'. This alludes to his second birth, as he was said to be born prematurely and then inserted in Zeus' thigh, (which could be a euphemism for his testicles), and made to stay there until he was ready to be born.
However, an origin that was never associated with him by scholars...
Was that he was somewhat related to the Archon of Desire, Beelzebub. Possibly his son, or emerged from him. Nobody was certain.
