Chapter 12 - Broken Leg

The security guards of the Jiayi property management company worked on two shifts. In the past, there were three shifts but later on, when they really could not recruit enough staff, they changed it to two shifts.

The shifts were rotated every 10 days.

By June 21, Liu Qing was on the night shift.

On shift rotation day, the people on day shift would knock off at 3:00 p.m. After an eight-hour break, they would take over at 11:00 p.m. and work until 7:00 a.m.

The eight-hour break included dinnertime, so not many people could manage to rest and sleep through the entire break.

The shift rotation day was always the most tedious day for the security guards.

Some people would choose to take the day off on that day, but only one or two people per shift could be allowed to do that. Therefore, most of them would go through the shift rotation in a state of exhaustion.

Usually, on shift rotation day, the superiors would not do spot checks that night because that was when they would find a large group of sleeping staff.

For two days of the day shift, Liu Qing was still a little worried about the boy's parents coming to seek revenge on him. He even placed a wooden rod in the sentry post.

In the end, nothing happened and it was soon time for him to change to the night shift.

He preferred the night shift because there was not much activity during the shift and he could sleep.

The superiors would do spot checks occasionally, but under normal circumstances, as soon as any security guard noticed the superiors coming around, they would notify one another.

Moreover, the superiors would usually do their spot checks between 2:00 a.m. and 4:00 a.m. He would just avoid sleeping during that period of time.

After being on the night shift for a few days, Liu Qing was about to forget about the incident when something happened.

At around 10:00 p.m., he left the sentry post to buy water from the convenience store outside. He had only walked a few steps when a man suddenly came out from a van parked by the side of the road. The man rushed towards him, swung a wooden club at his leg and broke it with a loud cracking sound.

Liu Qing cried out in pain and fell to the ground. He almost fainted from the pain.

Before he could see the face of the man who attacked him, the man ran back into the van which drove off quickly.

Liu Qing wanted to take down the license plate number, but he realized that the license plate was blocked off and nothing could be seen.

Those people had come prepared.

He could only take out his walkie-talkie and call the team leader for help.

After notifying the team leader, he called the police.

He did not dial 120 right away because at that time, all he knew was that his leg hurt badly. He did not know exactly what had just happened or if there were any serious fractures or if he needed to go to the hospital.

His main concern was about who would be paying for the hospital bill, him or the company.

If he needed to pay for it, then he really could not afford it.

When the team leader arrived, he was shocked and quickly called the head of security.

It did not take long for all the company managers to arrive.

By this time, Liu Qing had tried a few times but could not stand on his left leg. He reckoned that it was probably broken.

When the managers arrived, so did the police.

They asked a few brief questions about the situation and dialed 120 for emergency services.

One of the police officers followed Liu Qing to the hospital while the other officer stayed at the scene to look at the surveillance footage. At the same time, he called in to the police station to report the incident and request that the surveillance cameras at the relevant road intersections during this period of time be checked to see if they could find the van.

The hospital examination results revealed a broken left leg.

The good thing was that the fracture was not serious enough to require surgery.

Manager Zhou accompanied Liu Qing to the hospital, and when he heard that there was no need for surgery, he heaved a sigh of relief.

This was an incident that happened during working hours so the medical fees definitely needed to be borne by the company.

It was not as if he did not want to pay for it. It was just that the property management company only made a little profit and it would be best if they could bear less costs.

If the injury was serious and Liu Qing needed to be hospitalized for a few weeks together with follow up treatments for a few months, it would be relatively stressful for the company financially.

In the event that he became crippled for life, the company's profits for a year would be gone.

The injury was diagnosed as being minor and not very serious.

Liu Qing heaved a sigh of relief.

He was going to be a rich second generation in the future and did not want to be a cripple.

Even if he became a cripple and the company would pay his living expenses for life, it was not what he wanted.

The police asked him whether he had offended anyone recently. Both Liu Qing and Manager Zhou told them about the boy who stole the bicycle.

A thought flashed across Liu Qing's mind. Could it be Huo Zhenzhen who had asked someone to do this?

He quickly dismissed the idea.

Although Huo Zhenzhen was heartless and mean to him, it was only because she wanted to pursue a better life. She was not that vicious.

Moreover, as a lone office worker in this city, even if she wanted to find someone to deal with him in this manner, she did not have the connections to do so.

Most importantly, based on his understanding of Huo Zhenzhen, she would not bear to spend money to hire someone to beat him up.

Their enmity was not worth that kind of money.

That left only the boy's father as the prime suspect.

Whether that was true or not, and whether that was any evidence supporting the theory, was not something the property management company could find out.

Liu Qing did not have much hope.

After all, it was only a minor injury and a very small police case. The police force would not assign too many officers to handle this case.

After staying one night in the hospital, Liu Qing was discharged after getting some medicine and having a cast on his left leg.

Manager Zhou personally drove by to pick him up from the hospital. The young girl, Xiao Wen, was also in the car.

Liu Qing hobbled to the car with his crutches and got in. When he saw Xiao Wen, he could not help laughing. "I thought there was no one in the car, but it turns out that you're here. With your kind of height, it's better not to learn to drive. Otherwise, when people look in from outside, they'll think that it's a driverless car."

That was quite an exaggeration.

Although Xiao Wen was not tall, she was not that short.

Xiao Wen spat out a reply. "Why didn't they break your tongue instead?"

Liu Qing put down his crutches and sat properly. He shook his head and sighed. "We're colleagues. Why are you so vicious? You even wish for my tongue to break. Do you want me to never be able to kiss someone again?"

Xiao Wen looked at him in surprise. "What? Do you need your tongue to kiss?"

Liu Qing looked back at her in shock. "Sister, you've already had three boyfriends at the Jiayi property management company. Are you telling me you haven't had your first kiss?"

"Get lost!" Xiao Wen said unhappily.

Manager Zhou originally had a lot on his mind but he was so amused by them that he laughed and said, "Stop joking. I'm driving. If I laugh and my hand shakes, the three of us will be hospitalized."

Then he said to Liu Qing, "Since you're not well now, just stay at home and recuperate. The doctor said that it might take a week or two for you to recover. Xiao Wen will take care of your daily meals for the next few days."

Xiao Wen snorted and rolled her eyes at Liu Qing before speaking to him unhappily.

"I'm here to serve you, and you're still talking rubbish! What an ungrateful person."

Liu Qing cupped his hands at Xiao Wen. "Thank you, thank you."

With his leg in a cast, he would indeed face a lot of inconveniences. It was better to have someone to take care of him.

For him, having a girl take care of him was much better than having a man take care of him.

The company would bear all the medical expenses for his accident. During the time he recuperated at home, they would still pay him his salary in full.

Liu Qing was quite satisfied with the treatment.

By the time his leg fully recovered, the boss of the Tianyuan Group, Su Yi, should be dead. He was almost a rich second generation.

It was not too bad to be able to prematurely experience the life of a good-for-nothing rich second generation.
