The rooftop.
The scene before Lin Fan was shocking. His eyes widened in horror as he saw a child hanging by bound hands below, with evolutionary zombies gathering underneath, drawn by the child's cries and the sight of flesh. They reached up, hands grasping, with a small mound of zombies stacking up, getting closer to the child.
"Was it them?"
Thinking of the survivors he had just seen, it seemed likely.
He grabbed the rope, pulled on it slowly, and drew the child up to the rooftop. Crouching in front of the child, he untied the ropes from the wrists, which were red from the binding. The sight pained him. A child, who deserved a bright future, was suffering through this ordeal.
He wiped the tears from the child's face and gently patted his back as the child sobbed heavily, struggling to catch his breath.
"Don't be afraid..."
Lin Fan soothed gently. The child was easily scarred by such fright, needing reassurance and care.
