Chapter 20 - The Basalisk Hybrid Prodigy

In the techno-city inhabited mainly by psychics and techno-hackers, there was just as much wonder as in the Mystical City. Spirons and Beastmen still walked the streets, but instead of magick, they used quantum psychic abilities that mimicked their supernatural counterparts. They always believed magick and psychic powers were just two sides of the same coin, and as such should be respected as such. One could not exist without the other, and both are vital in the world as there would be less fun to be had, less of the world and the universe to be explored, and more risk of danger from those with actual power from extraterrestrial and paranormal forces. However there are still those that reject powers as a whole for different reasons. Some, because they do not have it. And others because they fear it. However there was always an exception to the majorities, and that exception was now walking around with a tablet in his hands, scrolling through a book while flicking his serpentine like tongue occasionally to make sure he didn't hit anyone. His serpentine eyes were fixed on the story, not really paying too much attention to where he was walking, when he stepped on something jagged, making him wince in pain as he saw it was just a rock. He kicked it away, and it accidentally hit someone in an ally who seemed to have been drinking an entire glass bottle of alcohol, and was angry that he was disturbed. He lunged forward in a drunken stupor, his power was clearly tactile otherwise he'd hit the boy with a long range telekinetic wave, but then the boy whipped out a gun, a self modified walther p99, and held it to the man's nose ready to pull the trigger. The man backs off, not wanting to get shot, but still aimed to attack by using the bottle by manipulating the glass as projectiles, but it was shot out of his hands quicker than he could move. The boy had a wicked grin, his finger squeezing the trigger, but he then got bored and just left him in a state of shock and fear. He went back to his tablet, not paying the man anymore attention. He then noticed that there was someone in front of him, waiting for something. He looked and saw he wandered to a restaurant. He was feeling pretty hungry anyway, so he went inside and saw the place was crowded today, but he didn't mind waiting a little bit for his food. He then noticed someone far into the restaurant, and he couldn't look away. It was Manson, dressed a bit differently, but looked cleaner, having polished all six of his nails, and combed his hair silky smooth. He was wearing a black jacket, fishnet stockings, and brown shorts, and slurping on spaghetti with salad on the side along with garlic knots, and a soda for a drink. He was in his own world, not minding anyone else at the moment, and seemed to be texting someone while eating. Manson then giggled, and then went back to eating. The snake boy was entranced, seeing Manson's beautiful face, and wanted to go over and try talking to him. Soon a table opened up near him, and the boy went over. He felt his heart racing and tried to keep a calm demeanor. As he sat down, he took a deep breath and extended a hand to Manson to talk.

"Hi, nice to meet you. I'm Xiro DeCobray. What's yours?" he asked. Manson answered, shaking his hand. "I'm Manson Bleats. I don't think I seen you here before, you new?" he asked. Xiro nodded, telling him about how he recently moved in, and about what his family does for a living. Manson didn't get it all the way, but he was more or less interested in it. As they talked and ate, Xiro was enjoying getting to know a new friend and he could talk about something he liked. Eventually they both left, both of them exchanging phone numbers, and going their separate ways for now. Xiro felt like he was flying on air, but came back to reality when he saw that he was in front of his house. He went inside, seeing his parents were working on weapon designs, so he walked passed them so he wouldn't disturb them. He sat in his room, watching the news about telekinetic users and other psychics, which he wasn't interested in at all since he didn't like superpowers at all. He saw them as unnecessary, using technology to shorten the gap. However he enjoyed playing pirate games, plundering and defeating wraiths as he went along with his crew. He looked at the phone number Manson gave him, but before he could call, he saw Merlin running through the city fighting shadow beasts that wandered into the city. He watched with external boredom, but inside he was actually excited, enjoying seeing Morgan and Merlin fly around and shooting energy blasts from their hands. However he pushed the thoughts out of his mind, looking at his computer, and then at Manson's number again. He then got the courage to dial him, waiting about thirty seconds for him to reply, and then spoke to him. "Hi there Manson. I was wondering if you...um..would like to hang out today..maybe?" Xiro asked Manson. He was nervous, but didn't want to hide or hang up until he got an answer first. Manson agreed, making Xiro's heart flutter as he started to get ready. He quickly showered, and put on clothes that seem to look like a pirate's outfit. He packed his gun as well, going to the park to meet Manson. He made sure to comb his hair, letting it sling to one side as he ran outside, but almost ran into Morgan as she was running. "Hey, watch it!" he yelled, but Morgan shot four arrows around him, skillfully combining with Merlin's finger bullet spell to destroy shadow insects darting for them. "Sorry about that. You must be new, I'm Morgan and that's my buddy Merlin. Sweet pirate outfit." she said. Xiro blushed a bit, but covered it up and started towards the park where Manson was waiting with different clothes. He was wearing an all black sweater, and pink skinny jeans. He waved to Xiro as he went on his skateboard and skated towards him slowly. "Hey man, hope you don't mind if I asked a friend to join us today. Lotta strange shit going down and I don't really see how a bat is supposed to save us." he said, holding his bat like a katana. Xiro saw Merlin walk up to them, but he was wearing skinny jeans, a crop top, a green jacket, and black sneakers. Xiro was confused on how he changed clothes, but disregarded it as he sat down on the bench. "So Manson, you have any ideas for tonight? Figured you'd want to hit the movies or something." Merlin said. "Nah. Let's just be some bad bitches and cruise around the town. Might find something to get into you know?" Manson suggested. Xiro wasn't entirely sure what he meant, but he agreed along with Merlin. All three of them went around town, enjoying the sights and pulling harmless pranks, and just having a good time. Xiro then heard something calling out to him in a hypnotic tone, luring him to a magic circle on the floor. Somehow it wasn't upsetting the technology around the city, and as he stepped inside the circle, he saw a demonic looking face before he was teleported into a lush garden room. However the water that was flowing was actually going upwards towards the ceiling strangely. A beautiful woman with long black hair, a floral shimmering red dress, but her forearm had thick fish scales that glimmered like rainbows. She looked at Xiro with curiosity in her eyes, and then began to talk. "Welcome, my descendant. I've finally reached you. And you've grown beautifully I see." she said in a silky tone. Xiro didn't understand anything that was going on. Who was this woman? What was this place? Why was he here?

The woman then snapped her fingers, spawning a large portal and launching a massive serpentine monster out of it. Xiro pulled out his gun, shooting it in the eyes as he dodged out of the way at the last moment. The beast wasn't reacting to the injuries as it looped back and went for him again, screeching a nasty blood curdling scream as it began it's next assault. Xiro shot at the ground with a charged shot to launch himself onto the serpent, running back to the woman and fired a few shots. However the bullets bounced off as if the very air around her was forming a protective barrier. The woman began to speak once again. "You cannot always rely on weapons such as that young Basalisk." she said, dispelling her serpent and then creating chains to restrict Xiro while he was in midair. The chains were lightning fast, not even a second passed before he was tied to the ground tightly, not even able to twitch his arm. The woman slowly walked over, smiling as she began to speak in Sumerian. Xiro had no idea what she was saying, but noticed how she was beginning to look more snake-like, her hands and face showing that she was growing more scales, and her nails turned pearl white and sharper. "Observe child. This is the power of I, the queen Semiramis. And now, this power shall awaken in you as well." she said as she began to chant in Sumerian again. Xiro didn't understand a thing she was talking about, trying to free himself from the chains, but it was ineffective as he struggled in vain. However there was no pain at all as Semiramis undid the chain spell and began to send him back to where he was. "Wait, I don't understand! What power did you give me, what is this place?" he yelled out, however he was already back where he was standing before he was teleported. Merlin and Manson were filling water balloons, but looked like they were just getting started. He wondered how much time had passed since he left, and what Semiramis was blabbing about in that strange place. However his train of thought was interrupted by a police officer tapping his foot while he watched Merlin and Manson fill the balloons. Xiro alerted them, and all three ran away, dropping the water balloons as they did so.
