I woke with a start something wasn't right with my mate I could feel it. I met her a few years ago at a meeting with the elders she's the last king and queens daughter the oldest daughter Rakkida her parents gave her to trustworthy friends for protection when her and her twin sister Sarah was born they was both put under a very big glamor protection spell that only the twins could break and reapply when needed I knew she was my mate the moment I laid my eyes on her my father was the last kings second in command and he promised the throne and kingdom would be protected until Rakkida came of age and took the throne. The day I was summoned to the elders for a meeting was the day I met Akkida and Sarah they had just learned about the powerful Glamor and was learning to remove it and reapply it my eyes were Drawn to Akkida I leaned against the door frame and just watched they was both beauties but I only had eyes for Akkida her scent had hit my nose the moment I entered the building and lead me here she smelled of Water and Packed Ice. I don't know how long I stood them watching but I was brought out of my thought "oh King Vonax your early please go ahead and enter the chamber we will join you safely" one of the elders said I flicked my eyes over to them and noticed it was Elder Vipien I nod at him heading into the chamber but not before I noticed Akkida watching me curiously I gave her a dazzling smile and her face turned red slightly she looked adorable after that encounter we started talking a little every time I visited it was one day that she wasn't there and the elders informed me that it was a week before she became of age so her training was complete and that they would be going to collect her at midnight on the day she comes of age I grinned and nodded at the elders.
So here I am laying in my bed staring at my ceiling with a bad feeling in my stomach after the war had ended the couple that took her in came to me asking permission to move her back here from the human world as they feel that she would be better here were she was born and where they could teach her better I agreed I even gave them the best house on the outskirts of the castle walls so I could better keep an eye on them and her the same with Sarah and her adoptive family I noticed that Sarah and Akkida had grown close so when the elders came to them on my word as I felt something wasn't right my assumption was correct Sarah was learning the way of the world but Akkida was not I had frowned when I learned this as they had promised her parents and me that they would teach her. I sit up straight and frown rubbing a hand down my face before getting out of bed and heading into my bathroom to shower and get dressed for the day.
I met my second in command Bal in the main hall headed towards the dining hall "good morning Vonax" he says I just glance over at him I still had a slight feeling that something was off with my mate but I couldn't interfere until much later "oh spill your a bit spacey this morning what's going on?" Bal asks me and I sigh as we make it to the dining hall for breakfast "it's Akkida I can sense something is wrong but I also know I can't interfere until later when the elders gives us the signal" I say once again rubbing a hand down my face I stiffen slightly I see I see a short blond dragon shifted make a beeline for me "oh Vonax my love there you are I want you to meet my cousin" the annoying girl says I had to keep my dragon Fasalth from tearing her limb from limb Fasalth couldn't stand her she didn't understand why I wouldn't sleep with her it wouldn't do any good she couldn't be my queen as is dragon shifters would only impregnate our true mate or for those who lost there mate can birth children with each other "Deaneh" I say in an annoyed voice which made her frown and I look at Bal for help to find he was nowhere to be found "come on Vonax don't be like that we're mares start talking to me with respect" she growls with a warning tone and I couldn't help it I burst out laughing she was taken back and takes a step back "you talk about respect Deaneh? Really? How about you start respecting me as your King and back off you are not or will you ever be my mate if I remember correctly you found your true mate on your last trip to the alps yet you rejected him you did the unthinkable something no shifter should ever do you took something magical that was gifted to us by our goddess and shoved it down her throat without a care in the world" I say glaring at her slightly as she starts to tear up everyone gasped and started whispering quietly Deaneh turns and rushes off out of the dining hall as Bal reappears "is the she bitch gone?" He asks looking around and I nod and sigh "I've lost my appetite I'm going to head to my office and do some paperwork" I say turning on my heels and leaving the dining hall but I was stopped by an angry female who I assume is Deaneh's cousin as they look similar "you didn't have to be so harsh on her she is your mate after all I can tell she cares for you deeply her eyes always light up when she speaks about you and as for that jerk in the alps he wasn't her mate he was an old homeless person looking for an escape from the alps" she growls at me balling up her fists and I raised an eyebrow "oh? So if she is my mate why does my dragon want to rip her limb from limb every time she comes near me?" I ask and she steps back her eyes widening and she covers her mouth "is that what the Mate call is? Wanting to destroy your mate the person our goddess assigns to us to love and protect?" I ask her watching her closely she was at a loss for words and bows her head and quickly turns and hurries off down the hall no doubt looking for Deaneh.
I sit back in my chair after finishing the last of the paperwork and look at the clock I still had three hours before the Elders sent there sign for us to go collect Akkida and Sarah I rub a hand down my face and think back to the plan we have formed after Akkida told us of a plan she overheard from her adoptive parents and brother my blood still boils thinking about it and Fasalth growls and roars she had came in with Sarah on her hills angry and annoyed Elder Geke had frowned and pulled her into a chair to calm down "tell us what's wrong child" Elder Geke says and that's when she told us the plan she had overheard "I overheard my parents and brother talking about when I go into heat my brother is going to force me into a mate contract" she growls out and gets up and starts pacing in front of the chairs everyone gasps and i stiffen I wanted to go right then and rip her brother limb from limb and my dragon was in agreement a mate contract was the worst kind before fathers would sell there youngest daughter to the highest bidder and they would be forced into the mating contract which would force the girl to bear the men children and they had no choice but to obey there every order the last girl that was forced into one was a shifted naked Ivy she was the only daughter of the family and was treated like a slave even her mother treated her like one she was a beauty so her father went out the day before she went into her first heat he took her to the auction and auctioned off to a wealthy noblemen named Bunal he wasn't gentle or nice to her and always made her do weird tasks on a trip to our kingdom Ivy smelled her true mate but because she was under the bonding contract she couldn't leave his side Ivy's true mate Lenal however was able to find her and grew angry that his true mate wouldn't come to him Bunal just smirked at Lenal wrapping an arm around Ivy's waist and declared her his mate it was at that moment Ivy's Dragon broke free of the contract setting her free and rushed to Lenal then turned back to Bunal "you can tell my father that he can find you another innocent girl to torture" she growls at him luckily Bunal had never sexually touched her as he didn't feel the need to have a heir despite his parents persistence on the matter Bunal became enraged and tried to force her back to him but failed he knew right then that the contract had been broken by her dragon that very night the king of dragons declared mate contracts illegal and forbidden as it had almost lost his son his mate.
I was brought out of my thoughts by Bal rushing through my office door "it's time and the Elders said be quick something isn't right" he says panicky I was on my feet and out the door and in my dragon form before Bal even caught up to me.
