"Oh, don't worry about Vick. She promised to keep the whole matter a secret even if she was convinced."

The duke looked at her. It was clear from his gaze he wasn't convinced. That gaze itself, though, was very worrying. If they were acting, then they were acting too well.

"Vick?" Savine turned to her. "You promised, right? You'll keep things a secret even if you're persuaded."

Victarine nodded carefully.

"Don't you dare turn back on your words after berating me so endlessly about lying. If you do that, then I'll really turn unhinged."

She said it so casually, but Victarine was forced to respect it. But more importantly, she was forced to think about what it would mean if duke Orso really tried to assassinate her.
