Chapter 2 - The Very Beginning

The Very Beginning

The sky was dark, a signal that it was about to rain which I stupidly ignored because the early morning weather forecast said it would be a bright sunny day.

Call me Alora, the woman that never listens to anyone but follows her own guts.

Well, I never knew that will get me into trouble someday.

Everyone around me dived into their bags searching for something which can only be an umbrella, I didn't have one with me so I didn't do what everyone else was doing.

Although I knew the weather forecast had being wrong for a few days, but I still hoped it will be different today.

I chuckled remembering how Clarkson Robinson the famous TV forecaster was mocked all over the internet after predicting sunshine for the whole day. Two minutes later, it started raining heavily and worst it rained the whole day. I couldn't care less about him, besides that backstabbing ex of mine deserves every misfortune this world has to offer.

I left the lab earlier than usual so I could stop by the pharmacy to get my grandmother's drug, the stubborn woman still refuses to listen to me and come stay at my place. Not that my place was awful, trust me it's the best an independent woman my age could ask for.

Every weekend I drop by my granny's house to check on her and today was no exception.

Eight blocks away from my destination, the rain began.

Like always I followed my gut and didn't drive my car but decided to take the bus to work and back.

Some people call me strange but I say I'm unique....strangely unique.

The downpour was so heavy it felt like a thousand strokes. In the blink of an eye, I was soaking wet.

I ran into the building and waved at the kind security guard who nodded his head back in greeting.

Dashing up the stairs I shivered on my way up. Balls! I could have just taken the elevator.

I struggled to open the door and almost broke the key in the keyhole, that would have been unfortunate.

"Old lady! I'm homeeee" I yelled announcing my arrival as soon as I got in.

"In the bathroom! " My grandma yelled back irritation lacing her voice.

"Okay, I brought your drugs, I'm going upstairs to change my wet clothes, I got drenched by....."

"Yeah yeah, do whatever you like" The old woman interrupted boringly.

I chuckled and yelled "Try to be nice granny, all old people are. "

My grandma wasn't like every other typical old women, she was feisty and stubborn and strangely too straight and beautiful for her age. We all know that at a certain age of a person's life signs of old age and life struggles would begin to show in one's appearance, they begin to get wrinkles, gray hair and shrink. Having gray hair was the only indication that my grandmother was old. She's still very stubborn, hotheaded and feisty and I didn't have to look too far to know where I got those characters from.

I didn't wait for her reply as I raced up the stairs shivering.

On getting to my room I sneezed hard.

"Whaaaat! I wasn't even that long in the rain, now I have caught a cold. Nice! "

I opened the door and the whole room was dark, dark and chilly. I shivered and looked at the direction the wind was coming from. My window was wide open.

That's strange!

I remembered locking... infact I've never opened that window. Never!

Normally, the lights from outside always illuminated my room enough to make my way to bed without having to turn on the lights, but everything was pitch black because the streetlights were off which has also never happened before.

This is not good, I thought.

Moving further I could have sworn I saw a shadow move. My heart suddenly dropped down to my stomach, my brain was yelling danger, but as usual I totally ignored it.

Stepping into my room I reached out to grab the bat behind my door, hands shaking I went further into my room. Deep down I knew this was a stupid thing to do but me still me I didn't turn and run.

"Okay, this isn't funny anymore grandma. " I yelled. This wasn't the first time that golden ager had pranked me. Now that I thought of it she seriously needs help, she randomly acts strange sometimes I.....

An iron arm suddenly grabbed me, interrupting my thoughts and choking me to death.

My brain refused to co-operate and bring forth the adrenaline rush that I needed, I couldn't even fight back, my karate classes became useless.

I couldn't breathe, I was trying desperately to break his hold on me, I even bit him hard, still nothing.

Oh God!

Then I did the only thing any girl would do, cry!

Hot drop of tears fell on his hand repeatedly as I struggled. Miraculously, his grip loosened, I quickly grabbed the divine opportunity as I removed my body from his grip.
