Chapter 31 - Challenge Of The Past I

~Swish~

~Swish~

~Wham!~

~Wham!~

~whoosh~

Swiftly and speedily, Knight Edward cut through the undead that kept coming at them in either linear horizontal or vertical slashes. Which proved effective as everyone he slashed down disintegrated into black ashes.

However, Avery and the other Knights that were not prima had to struggle with the persistency of the undead even after being cut down. Only after their heads have been smashed multiple times do they stop.

~WHAM!~

Avery swung her axe at the head of her next target, diving the head, blood splashed out like a waterfall and soaked her face.

While Knight Edward was focused on protecting her, he also could not help but admire her strength and formidability. Even the soldiers shook at the numbers that surrounded them in ainstance but her eyes burned with vigour and without hesitation, she began to slice through not showing any signs of tiredness. But it wouldn't last for long and he knew that.

While in mid-battle he made his way to her, backing her with his back while they dealt with the persistent army of undead with hack and slash.

"My lady, you must proceed to the other room, I will make a way for you, I've told Simeone, Marrok and Trey to follow you."

"That's asking everyone to follow me, you alone plan to fight off all these undeads and protect the knights at the same time?"

~Squash~

She smashed the head of her next target on the wall with her axe immediately after she spoke.

"Don't underestimate the competence of a six-star prima." He said and winked at her. The three he had mentioned earlier swept past her, one of them grabbing her hand as Knight Edward raised his sword vertically up, silver-coloured ether swirled around his sword which signified the start of skill use.

A bright explosion covered the entire room as Avery and the three entered another room by smashing the door in front of them.

Avery fell to her knees and slowly catch her breath upon standing up and looking forward, the three of them were frozen in shock at what they saw, not because it was stronger than them but because the cruelty made them shake with fear.

A mountain of corpses stood before them, brutally murdered in different ways, eyes gouged out, heads smashed, broken limbs, smashed bodies, they all differed in different ways but the bodies were there all piled in front of them forming a mountain of it.

~Bleeuuggghhh~

Trey, a dark-haired Knight couldn't take it anymore, he vomited rigorously on the ground. Avery was about to but held it back and swallowed it.

Inside the entire room, a feminine voice echoed.

Avery quickly looked around in search of where the voice has come from.

"It seems, that's the voice of the vassal weapon, that means its treasure room is close" Trey said, wiping his mouth with the edge of his clothes.

"I can hear it?"

"Yes my lady, while in a vassal weapon's dungeon, everyone present can hear it until it has made a pact with a prima." Simeone, the tall and huge one who wielded a greatsword said.

"I see... but there's no door further." She said, looking around in inspection.

"Then the only way forward is in front of us..." Marrok said gazing forward at the mountain of corpses.

A curiosity overwhelmed demeanour took over her face, "What does that mean?"

"The only door that exists is the door we came in from, but the pile of corpses is blocking whatever is there, who knows a door that leads to the retrospective room might be there."

"Retrospective room?" She asked, her curiosity hasn't dwindled for the past minutes with the way these primas discussed about the dungeon using dungeon terms.

"Ah, the retrospective room is the room where one can take a glimpse into the vassal weapon's most regretted moment," Marrok said, realising that she was lost trying to figure out their conversation.

"I see..."

The voice said once again.

"She seems quite impatient already," Avery said, looking around trying to figure out where the voice was coming from. 'As expected, being the lead is different, we weren't even allowed to go this far back then when I joined a party.' She thought as she looked around.

"My lady, I will use my skill to blast apart the pile of corpses while it will seem disgusting, I want you to run into it. We can't follow you else you want us to be the one making a pact with the vassal weapon." Simeone said.

"I understand." She replied.

~Fuuuuu~

He exhaled and held his greatsword forward, the sword hilt was made of gold and long enough to accommodate both hands, and the cross guard was curved and large, creating an ideal sword balance for smooth and accurate swings, in the middle of the cross guard was embedded a green gem and the golden design prolonged from the beginning of the blade(in its middle) and to the tip.

"Are you ready? Lancelot!"

The ego of his greatsword responded, shouting towards the end.

He raised the sword over his head, and immediately, his dark-green-coloured ether began to discharge and wrapped the sword as he shouted.

"Lay upon my enemies, and unfading salvation of light; LIGHT OF LAKE!"

~Wham~

The green ether sharply stretched to form a long pillar of light that pierced even the roof of the dungeon and stretched out into the sky everything in its path came crumbling to pieces as he swung forwards. A widespread green light covered the whole area, so much that Avery couldn't see a thing.

"Go! Forward!" She suddenly heard Knight Simeone's voice and began to run forward amidst the shining and burning light she ran and there it was a black entrance amidst white background she suddenly found herself in.

She stopped running as she noticed her surrounding had changed, it wasn't easy to notice because there was an overflowing illumination before now.

She exhaled and tightened her fist on the axe that was in one hand. After preparing herself, she slowly walked towards the pitch-black entrance.
