Silence, it was a complete silence.
It was not like when the sources of the sound are are just taking a break.
It was a kind of silence where it felt like all the sound have just disappeared
from existence.
Shankar was not confused, this is not the first time this has happened to him.
Ever since a year ago ago when he had the accident he would enter this world where
only silence prevails.
He still vividly remembers when he had the accident that started a series of events
unexplainable by human logic.
One of such events is happening to him right now.
Shankar found that he was standing on a patch of grass, but the strange thing is that
the grasses in this patch are abnormally tall.
Almost reaching his waist.
He could see every fibre of every blade of grass
Their sharp edges designed so that while tracing those blades from the base to the tip nothing happens, but if some fool traces them the opposite way then the tiny spikes on it's ridge will cut into their fingers providing them with a cut as a proof of their foolishness.
Shankar tried to focus.
He found that his legs are nowhere to be seen.
The place where his legs should have been, he found a hard surface with crisscrossed
patterns resembling the stem of a tree.
He tried to remain calm.
Although at this moment he found that no matter how many times he is faced with this bizarre phenomenon, and no matter how much he thinks that he would get accustomed to it ,it always tests his mental strength to the limit.
He took a couple of deep breaths and tried to refocus.
He started observing his surroundings.
He found that he could see every direction at once.
Rather than looking ,it is more appropriate to say that he could feel the surroundings all around him.
But the strange thing is that he could only feel the area of a radius of a few feet only.
He tried to look above.
This time he was really shocked.
He found leaves, swaying with a light wind that came from somewhere.
A yellow leaf couldn't hold onto the twig anymore and like a dying flame swayed a little and followed the wind, did a somersault and jumped to it's grave.
Shankar is now convinced of his conjecture that he has turned into a tree.
If this was the first time this happened he would have dismissed this as a weird dream.
And that was exactly what he did the first time and a few times after that.
But after multiple extremely shocking experiences he now knew better.
He looked down where his stem has entered the soil and has branched into multiple
roots.
He could feel the grains of the soil that his roots has clutched strongly.
He found that the branch roots are still not long enough.
He focused on the main root.
The tap root is much longer and has penetrated much deeper into the soil.
He concluded that the tree must not be a very old or a very big tree.
His consciousness followed the main root.
After about one and a half metres he found that the root has encountered a hard surface.
Now it is unable to penetrate the ground any deeper to reach the water bed.
He tried to feel the tip of the root or the root cap.
He suddenly felt a pain and a stinging sensation.
The tree on its way tried to make the root go through the hard layer and seems to have hurt itself.
Shankar understood the situation and tried to move to the stem again.
All of a sudden he felt a light headedness.
His surroundings was also becoming blurry.
He lost consciousness.
