Chapter 3 - Destruction

It was the same dream every night as she laid to sleep. The young maiden saw clouds of thick black smoke; fire like no other ravaged the dwelling place of the inhabitants. Wooden door crumbled into pieces as the fire swept around taking with it everything in its path.

[Cough!]

The young maiden heard someone coughing in her dream but there were no faces attached to the screams of terror and couging fit.

Her chest constricted in agonizing terror at the mass destruction that the widespread fire had brought.

The foul stench of burning flesh sipped into the pores of her skin and nose.

One of the curse of being a shaman was to see  beyond what the normal eyes could lay hold on.

Bodies burnt to the point that they were no longer recognizable.

The young maiden heard the voices of the villagers chanting.

"Devils! Away with your lies and trickery! The villagers of Myeongjang will not be blinded by your magic tricks! Our children have died from your untruth; you stole our money and lived as you wished on this land! Tonight your blood shall be spilled!"

Like hunters on a hunt for their prey; the men of the village slaughtered both young and old. Not sparing children and women.

"What have we done to deserve your hatred? Never once has any of us lied about our abilities. We never promised what we could never do. Why have you chosen to pay our kindness with death?!"

The voices came from the ghoulish phantoms. Their cries and demand for answers echoed hollowly.

"Devils must be killed; more so the seeds of the devil!"

[Wailing]

The haunted cries from the faceless spirits pierced through the heart of the sleeping maiden.

"Kill them…Kill every single last one of them until there are none of their remnants left!"

The voices that came from the ghouls sent coldness into the young maiden.

Their never ending cries of torment and pain wrapped around her like steel shackles.

The shackles as though they had a life of their own began to squeeze the young maiden; digging into her flesh and drawing blood.

Their oppressive hold took pieces of her flesh as she bled from the cuts that the shackles dug out.

The young maiden felt every cut from the tight steel bands. Gritting her teeth the pain became more bearable.

Drops of blood from the slashed to her flesh formed pools at her feet.

"This pain….humiliation of my kind I will never forget!"

[Straining]

"There is no price….that is too great; I will come back and hunt ALL OF YOU! Pray that I am dead before then! If not, you will have every reason to be terrified for your lives!"

The young maiden in a lucid dream gave a promise to the despicable voices of the villagers that haunted her.

A promise that came from the tormented soul who heard the wails of her people and felt powerless to stop their tragic fate.
