Chapter 17 - Breakdown (Part II)

"YOU FUCKER!!! JUST YOU WAIT! ONCE I LEAVE THIS BED! I WILL FUCKING KILL YOU!!" Hutch finally snapped, his voice filled with rage and frustration.

I couldn't help but taunt him further, savoring the reversal of our roles. Once, he had been in control, but now the tables had turned, and I held the upper hand. "Kill me? Oh, I'd love to see you try, little man," I retorted with a sinister grin.

I tapped on his cast, causing him to scream in agony. Though the surgery had been successful, his fractured bones were still in the process of healing.

"Don't forget, you're currently stuck in that bed, unable to move. I can beat you to a pulp, and no one would know," I asserted, approaching him with a menacing glare and firmly putting him in his place. Despite knowing he was being looked down upon, Hutch could only growl at me like a caged beast.

"Try it! I wonder what the nurses would do after discovering that you hurt me!" Hutch challenged me, believing he had the upper hand. Little did he know that I had ensured the room was soundproof.

"I didn't expect the arrogant Hutch to be such a crybaby. Why don't you go cry to your mom? I'm sure she'll listen to all your problems with great concern." I dismissed his threats with amusement, watching his face flush with anger as I continued to taunt him.

Before he could scream, I seized his hair and forced him to sit up. I mentioned casually, "I neglected to mention this earlier, but I bumped into your mother not too long ago. She appeared to be a loving and caring person, perhaps the closest person to you. I can't help but wonder what would happen if an unfortunate accident were to befall her." Since he had made threats against me, it seemed only fair to respond in kind.

"You wouldn't..." Hutch had finally grasped the gravity of the situation. It took him a while to recognize the threat.

"Why wouldn't I?" I responded coldly.

"You should understand by now that I utterly despise you. My hatred for you runs so deep that I want to witness your complete breakdown. I want you to live with the weight of your own worthlessness and regret." Madness gleamed in my eyes as I spoke these words.

As my anger overwhelmed me, the facade I had maintained completely crumbled, leaving behind only a fierce and malevolent glare.

Hutch was taken aback by the sudden change in me, as he had underestimated me, thinking I was just a weak nobody. He felt no remorse for the way he had treated my predecessor, believing that such consequences were impossible. Now, all he could do was dwell in the regret of being a heartless bully as he watched his life spiral into ruin.

I had no more words for Hutch, and my focus shifted to the task at hand. In the coming days, I would start making changes in his life, beginning with relatively minor actions.

However, there was another pressing issue I needed to address – the influence of my predecessor's unresolved problems on my own actions.

It was an unpleasant sensation, and I knew that if I didn't find a way to resolve these lingering issues, they might continue to disrupt my life in the future.

[Third-Person POV]

After Finn's departure, Hutch was left in silence, his mind filled with a tumultuous mix of emotions.

The threats and intimidation had left him feeling nauseous and helpless. Raised by a single mother who had always been his strongest support pillar, Hutch put all his dreams and aspirations into his education.

Now, with everything seemingly crushed, his mother had helped him regain some semblance of composure. Surprisingly, Hutch recovered, knowing what he worked for had gone so quickly. But with a new adversary, he wasn't sure how he could overcome it.

"Someone!" Hutch's desperate cry for help had brought a nurse to his bedside, and he quickly requested a phone to speak with his mother in private. As soon as he heard his mother's voice on the other end, his anxiety began to subside.

Soon a nearby nurse arrived and wondered what the patient needed. Hutch had asked for a phone to talk to his mother in private.

"Hutch, sweety, is there something wrong?" Hutch's mother was panicking when Hutch called. As sad as it was, Hutch wasn't the type to call someone unless there was an emergency.

And unfortunately, Hutch's mother's hunches were correct. Hutch had called because of some important news.

"Mom, I found out who set me up." Hutch had said this with concern.

"That's not all. He told me directly that he wanted to ruin me. The person who had threatened me used you as an example. Mom, when someone approaches you, please be careful. I can't lose you." The last thing Hutch wanted was for an accident to happen to his mother.

He couldn't live it down if his mistake harmed his mother. Hutch had now made an enemy who would do their absolute best to ruin him. The look on Finn's face alone confirmed it.

His mother on the call was silent. Hearing those threats, her heart stopped. She was a single mother with a child.

All she wanted was for her son to succeed. She may have spoiled her son willingly, but she never thought her son would cause this much trouble.

Dropping the phone, she stared at the wall, scared. Her stomach started to ache, and her head was feeling lightheaded.

"Mom! Please, I know this is hard, but don't come into contact with anyone. I'm sorry for causing so much trouble, but please stay safe." Hutch didn't want any risk involved.

Seeing that his mother wasn't replying, he could only grit his teeth. Hutch then called the nurse for the second time. He wanted to change the call and directly report what had happened today to the police.

The police were his safest choice. Not only would they keep Finn busy, but they would also keep an eye on him. If anything were to happen to his family, Finn himself would be the first to be suspected.

To him, safety was of the utmost importance. His pride disappeared, and all he could do was hope that this method worked.
