Chapter 1 - A typical day

Darkness and emptiness,

Peacefulness and contentment,

Silence and rest,

All destroyed by one little device that I wish didn't exist right now. Actually, I wish I didn't exist right now.

That is what I think as my phone's alarm wakes me up.

"But I guess you can't have everything."

I mutter that as I swipe at my phone without opening my eyes, trying to make it shut up

After what feels like forever, I reluctantly open my eyes and turn the alarm off. After playing the dangerous game of "resting my eyes" for a couple of minutes, I get out of my bed.

I have a decently sized room, maybe kinda big according to some people. Inside the room stands a wardrobe, 2 closets that are completely stuffed with strip books, a dusty lamp and a chair. I open the window wide and yawn, then I think to myself I probably shouldn't do that in the case that people on the street see me.

As I am putting on some clothes, I'm thinking about what I am going to do today. Although my days look mostly the same now that I passed my exams. Ah, did I mention that I passed my exams, and I am done with high school? No? Well, I guess now you know.

Anyway, that means I am completely free....

...so why didn't I turn off my alarm?

-

"Good morning"

I say as walk into the living room. My dad is watching the news before going to work.

"Good morning to you, Kyle. Why are you up so early? I thought you were going to sleep through the morning now you don't have school?"

"I thought so too, but I forgot to turn off my alarm. And I had already put on clothes before realizing I was free"

"Hah! Now, since you are up early, would you take the dog for a walk?"

"Sure"

-

As I am eating breakfast, my dad leaves for work.

"Don't forget to walk the dog"

"I won't, see you later"

"bye"

Now, mom probably won't be out of her bed before I am back with the dog, so I still have some peace.

-

As I leave the house with the dog, I start following the standard path I take to walk the dog. First taking the fastest route out of the village and then across a meadow before walking into the forest.

The forest isn't huge. I am pretty sure I have explored all the paths. As the path splits, I decide to just stop following the boring paths and just walk through the forest.

Sometimes I wish I could just find a secret path and explore an unknown side of this world.

It's a bit damp, but my shoes are decently waterproof and the dog is enjoying it.

As I walk, I always become a bit lost to time. So after an unknown amount of time I refocus again and grab my phone

Its 8:36 AM. As I prepare to walk a bit further and then return home. I catch a glitter of unfamiliar color out of the side of my eye.

As I turn my head and look at the unknown color. I see its beauty, and it feels like I should be closer to admire the color.

I am only a few paces away before my dog starts pulling on the leash. I turn back to look at him, but I can't seem to focus on my thoughts. Without my knowledge my hand muscles start relaxing. The dog leash falls to the ground.

I now finally pull together enough of my thoughts to notice. I did not do that! And feel a small shock of fear run through me.

Now panicking a bit, I try to move my body. But I can't feel my muscles. Finally, I start moving, I feel my muscles tense but I still don't have control over my muscles! The... the... Gemstone? Its making me walk towards it!

Now in full panic-mode, I try to move away. But I can't even fight against it. It's like I am not connected to my muscles anymore.

As I get closer to the gemstone, it forces me to stare at it. I feel myself lose awareness again. As if there is some untouchable, heavy blanket put over my consciousness.

As I'm reaching out to touch the weirdly glowing stone, I feel the light of the gemstone burn across my body. Like you're standing too close to a fire, but the heat goes straight through your body.

As my fingers touch the gemstone, I instantly become wide awake as if I've been sleeping all my lif-

In a dark room build with white marble, a young boy appears....

3 meters in the air and at a 57 degree angle.

"Wh-what was- where is the gr-"

*loud sound of someone falling on a table*

As I fall on a STONE table of all things in this darkness. I decide not to shout out loud with the clear mind the gemstone left me with.

Because it was probably the smartest move to play in this situation

I lay flat on my back. That HURT!

After the pain gradually subsided, I start feeling around on the table. It isn't a big table, I can just sit on it. Which is what I am doing because I am not brave enough to jump off the table into the darkness.

As I'm almost shitting myself, feeling around on the table in complete darkness.

After a while I feel and touch a smooth surface, a clear light appears, and I can see around me.

It seemed like I touched an electrical touch lamp

I am in what appears to be a study room, a pretty big one too. Old and worn down bookshelves and equipment fill the room. At the end of the room is the marble table I am sitting on.

As I look around, I notice a painting hanging on the wall behind me. On it is a weird scaly, humanoid depicted.

"Some sort of mystical creature?"

I say to myself as I study the creature.

I have never seen it before though, weird.

I climb off the table and see that I was sitting on a small closed book. Something had been written on it, but I can't read what's written. As I take the book, I also grab the touch lampto use as a lantern.

It feels heavy and looks to be made out of metal and glass

I walk past the tables filled with some weird equipment. As the light of the lamp illuminated more, I see a door carved out of...marble on the end of the room.

Before I open that door, I am first going to check the place out. Not leaving until I know nothing cool is just laying here.

After carefully walking past each of the bookshelves, I notice the books seem to be glued down or so I guess because I can't move them even with all my strength and the equipment is beyond me so I am not even touching that. I advance towards the stone door.

As I prepare to open the door, it opens automatically.

A bright light shines in my eyes and as my eyes adjust, I see a... Ruin.... before me.
