Soon after, Miss Bethany returned to the class and resumed the class. When time got to 3 o'clock, the closing bells rang.
"Mmm!" William stretched and picked up his things to follow behind the rest of his classmates out the door. He had slept till the school was over.
He snuck a glance at Miss Bethany as she arranged her desk, preparing to leave.
He left the school premises and his in the nearby bushes and wore the cloak Athena got for him.
"Athena said this cloak eliminates sound and makes one ultra-quiet. Won't invisibility have been better or something? Oh yeah, she said it also has a psychological effect that makes people not acknowledge my presence. Hmph! Still, with all that power she can't tell me she couldn't do something better…" William lampooned as he waited in the bushes for Miss Bethany to exit the school.
William had been waiting in the bushes for about thirty minutes …Is this what being a private investigator feels like? Looks cool at first glance but this sh*t is boring as f*ck!
…Nova, what do you think about Miss Bethany?
「She is a lady in her 30s and isn't married yet. Therefore, she most likely lives alone. In addition to the suspicion of having something to do with the missing two children, the chance she harbors a secret increases」
…Mmm. Exactly what I think too…
At that moment, William spotted Miss Bethany coming out from the school gate and exclaimed, "Finally."
She was with a few other teachers but after they laughed and fared each other well, they went their separate ways.
Denvern General School was at the edge of Denville and what came after when one walked up the road was Barnelton Estate.
William tailed behind Miss Bethany and occasionally stopped when she either met acquaintances on the way or bought some foodstuff or ingredient.
On the 25th East Street in Barnelton Estate, is where St. Luther's Cathedral of the Church of the Bright and Golden Sun was located. The area it encompassed was as big as a football stadium. The majestic structure made every passerby gasp in awe. Its intricate architectural designs and patterns made one marvel at the wonders of man and come to the conclusion that it is only god that could make such a grand structure. The light shone on the cathedral as though it had its own personal sun. It was faith-inspiring.
William gasped as he stood from afar. Even he, couldn't deny that the word 'amazing' couldn't do justice to this miraculous work of god.
Houses in this area were expensive and were the settlement of the nobility and middle-class individuals in Denvern City. This was all because of the presence of St. Luther's Cathedral. It was believed that holy grounds were sacred and areas around them were blessed. The Church of the Bright and Golden Sun was known for granting many of its prominent and devout followers the blessing of wisdom that made their businesses prosper and there were testimonies to even back this up. Most company owners were worshipers of the Bright and Golden Sun.
Even the Sorcerer King helped in this narrative because the church made it known that King Solomon was possessed by the remnant evil spirit of King Linn Soh Thu, but because of his immense wisdom, he predicted this and formed the Pentagogue, the military coalition of the five church factions that ended up defeating him and his army of vile creatures.
Miss Bethany entered said cathedral and remained in there for about twenty minutes before coming out.
…At least she's not a Temple worshipper. Else that'll be another red flag right there… William thought and continued tailing her.
Time was about thirty minutes past four, and William tailed Miss Bethany till she got to her house by 5:20 pm.
She lived in an area further down Barnelton Estate, past the north city wall gate called Crestford.
Police roamed several areas and guards were stationed at the city wall gate but they never paid attention to William. This made William marvel at the wonders of magic once again.
Crestford was a growing settlement with apartments and normal houses mixed. The streets were bustling as people were returning from work.
Miss Bethany stopped in front of a normal bungalow house and looked around with a frantic look on her face as she tried to get the keys to open the door quickly.
…F*ck! She lives so far out of the city and she didn't even take a carriage? William lampooned as his legs felt like they were about to give in. He hid in between two houses at a far corner and stared.
She was about to open the door when a fat man wearing a dark brown suit on a monkey jacket with a red and black line pattern and pipe in his mouth stopped her.
"I have been waiting here for you. Where is my rent?" The man's voice sounded midgety as he demanded.
"Sir please give me a few more days." Miss Bethany pleaded.
"What?!"
…She's owing rent? Well, I thought a teacher's pay would be enough for an individual. Unless she's spending her money on something else? William couldn't even finish his thought before he sense an ominous foreboding.
His heart raced and his mind told him to run for his life. He quickly turned around to flee from whatever it was but–
Boom!
An individual in a white hooded cloak wearing a golden skull mask with intricate patterns pinned William on the wall by the mouth!
"Urgh!" William struggled as his mind raced.
The hooded individual raised his head up to reveal eyes of pure darkness with a tiny ball of white in the middle. A voice came out from the area where the mouth was supposed to be, saying in an attempt to be comical but failed due to how deep and ominous it sounded, "Well what do we have here…"
William's face went pale in an instant!
