Chapter 27 - Athena's Order

William didn't know how to respond to Athena. At birth his princess mother died because of a vampire, his new father was a renowned individual across Maen, he encountered another vampire and found out his maid whom he knew for over 10 years was a goddess, then another goddess showed up unexpectedly.

William knew he had sh*tty luck that attracted weird people to him.

*Gulp*

William stared at Athena with heads of sweat rolling down his forehead. The last time he pissed a goddess off he was cursed.

"A-Athena I believe we can come to a compromise…" William frightenedly begged with a forced smile on his face.

Athena stared at William with her wide eyes becoming even wider and said, "William, don't let me repeat myself."

…Wait, this is the same Athena I know, right? She must be joking. Yes, she's joking. William thought then forced a laugh filled with anxiety, "Ha-Haha, Athena you must be joking. It's funny so please stop the joke already. We need to get to other things."

Athena still had the shadows covering her eyes. She raised her head and said, "Are you seeing a smile on my face?"

「Master, my data proves the Goddess, Athena, is indeed, not joking.」

What Nova said made William more anxious, he said, "If that's the case, you kill the goblin."

Athena shook her head, "You defeated the goblin. Make sure it stays that way."

William placed his hand on his chest and gestured, "Why do I need to kill an innocent creature?! I've already settled our differences."

Athena had a look of annoyance on her face, she countered, "You eat meat, William. See this as a cow you're about to slaughter."

William couldn't wrap his head around the logic, he yelled, "It's-It's not similar at all! It has higher intelligence than that of animals."

"It's a weak demi-human," Athena spoke with utter disgust written on her face, then she asked, "Do you think it would've thought twice if I ordered it to kill you?"

William didn't need to think before answering, he spoke genuinely, "That doesn't matter! It will do what it needs to survive. Just like any other person would! Compassion is a trait exclusive to the highly intelligent! I am weak too so why don't you kill me?"

"William, you're just making things worse by not doing as you're told. I will kill you if you don't kill it." Athena declared.

"Athena, just calm down! There's no need to be this adamant on this issue!" William insisted then thoughtfully suggested, "I-I have a solution. You said vampires have ki, right? I will train 10 times harder and hunt vampires, they'll be a better replacement for a goblin won't they?"

Athena placed her hand on her chin and thought a little, "Hmm, yes."

…Thank goodness she's believing. William thought. This was a result of the 'Charm' stat; the more William learned to persuade, threaten, and interact better with people, the more the stat points will increase.

Athena thought, then asked, "But what will you do when the vampire doesn't hurt people and instead, they became a vampire just to survive a certain period in their life? In other words, a 'good' vampire…"

"I-I-I will–" William stammered.

…Oh my goodness what should I say? Should I say the truth that I can't kill a good person? I should say I will kill the vampire? But I can't lie, can I? She will know!

"You can't kill a good person, you say?" Athena repeated.

…Sh***t! She can read my fuckin' mind!

William was feeling immensely nervous facing a goddess he gave a dumb lie, "I-I-I didn't think that, I mean, I-I didn't mean that. Athena, please don't force me to shed unnecessary blood."

Athena twisted her wand in her hand to show that she was feeling restless, she quickly replied, "The goblin's blood is necessary. It's going to be your springboard for saving the world. Do you know how honorable such a thing is?"

「Initiating mechanized mind…」

Thanks to Nova calming William's mental state, William took in a deep breath and thought things through.

…Athena is adamant about making me kill the goblin for only God knows why. So I'll just have to put my foot down… William declared, "...No matter what you say, Athena, I won't shed unnecessary blood."

"...I see." Athena placed a fish in the middle of the summoning circle then stood up and walked toward William.

William took a step back and asked, "W-What are you trying to–

Pow!

Athena punched William in his lower abdomen!

William knelt and groaned in pain with his right hand on the location of the punch and his other hand on the floor.

"Argh…" Athena grabbed his hair and dragged him to the corner of the room. William dared not fight back. What could he possibly do against a goddess?

She pointed her wand at the summoning circle and it shone some light before it dimed out, revealing a small goblin about 3 and a half feet tall, eating the fish.

William was eager to see what she summoned but was perplexed when it was a goblin child.

The goblin child looked like the previous goblin but it had lighter green skin, a smaller nose, and ears, but its feet were covered with black classic shoes!

A realization quickly hit William …That's the first goblin's child!

Before he could process his thoughts–

"Giii!" The older goblin screeched and ran from the corner of the room where it was to the summoning circle.

"Ga?" The goblin child looked in the direction of the familiar voice with a confused look on its face.

Athena pointed her wand at the older goblin and a heavy gust of wind pushed it against the wall.

"Athena what are you doing?! This isn't how gods are supposed to act!" William pleaded with her as he grabbed his sword and stood up.

"Says who? I need you to improve to help keep my family safe but you're being more stupid than usual." Athena walked to the goblin child and grabbed its neck.

"Gaaaa… Gaaaa…" It yelled and looked in the direction of the older goblin.

"Geiii! Geiiii!" The older goblin screamed but it couldn't overcome the strong gust of wind that kept it plastered to the wall.

William removed the slim sword from the concrete and pointed it at Athena and screamed, "Athena don't do this! Please! It's just a child!"

"I wouldn't have resorted to these measures if you just complied," Athena walked to the side with the goblin child as it struggled weakly and she said to the older goblin, "Kill this boy and I'll let you and your child go."

She released the heavy gust of wind that pushed it against the wall with a wave of her wand.

…F*ck! How is magic so powerful?! I have no hope against her in a battle no matter how much I train…

The goblin looked a bit hesitant, but it still carried its heavy wooden stick and stared at William.

She's-She's so cruel… William thought before pleading some more, "Athena please, please don't make me take an innocent life."

Athena had a look of contemplation for a few seconds before looking at the goblin and saying, "Kill him."
