Chapter 5 - The truth

Jikan can detect the magic is fluctuating as the very barrier before him shimmers. Shíjiān holds out his hand and utters something under his breath. The barrier pops like a bubble a shower of sparkles cascade down to the snow covered ground.

"Go, Jikan, you will find him inside."

The cloaked man slides open the front door to see the very floorboards are cracked and in some places a hole that show the edge of a vortex. He quickly makes his why through to find his mentor seated in front of a large ball that is showing images of other worlds.

"Taiyō, what are you doing? More importunely why are you doing this?"

This makes Taiyō look over his shoulder. "Jikan, how did you get here?"

"I helped him," comes a husky voice.

The mentor quickly stands up when he sees the attractive glowing man enter the room.

Taiyō quickly stands up. "Shíjiān."

The god shakes his head, "I cannot believe what you are doing, Taiyō. An eye is not something you can simply play with. Can you not see what it is doing around you?"

Just at the moment a section of floor near the floating orb drops away revelling more of the swirling vortex.

"You do not understand, I am looking for the one who keeps entering the worlds-"

"Do not lie to me when I know what you are doing," interrupts Shíjiān narrowing his eyes. "You are wanting your world to merge with this fragile place. You do not seem to comprehend that one or both worlds will be destroyed. I cannot believe you would be this foolish."

"Then bring back my world," snaps Taiyō.

Jikan is all confused he looks to his mentor and questions, "What are you on about our world is not gone."

"Ah, he did not tell you," expresses the god of time, "he is not from your world. He is from a world that no longer exists the third sun went supernova."

"What? Why didn't you tell me?"

Tears start to drip off Taiyō's chin and he begs again, "Bring it back."

"You know I cannot do that, once the tread is cut the life comes to-"

"You bastard, not an entire world," snaps the mentor, "I demand you to return it."

Shíjiān emits a soft laugh. "Demanding me, the god of time, who can literally hold your very thread within his hand."

They watch as a golden thread appears across the god's palm.

"All I need to do, child, is cut it and your very life, the last of your kind will be over."

Taiyō smirks and utters something neither Jikan or Shíjiān can hear. The very thread that flows across the god's slender fingers turns black and crumbles away.

"That is Impossible," says Shíjiān staring at the dust. "No, you have allowed your soul to be taken by the eye. I promise you it will not show your world as it is gone. I will prove it to you."

Jikan watches a massive sword appear from out of no where, the tip is pointed at the god of time.

"No, you show nothing other than lies," snaps Taiyō.

Shíjiān waves his left hand the sword vanishes and the eye shows a piece of space that consists of meteors and one red dwarf.

"See that is all that remains of your world," informs the god. "You know there is nothing I can do to change what has happened. The threads of time are woven to give life and I am afraid all life has an ending. It is only you who is timeless, only because your cells keep regenerating which allows you to remain young. Even I cannot take it away from you… except that eye, it has taken your soul, your immortality. The moment it is sent to another plane of existents your life will come to an end and there is nothing I can do about it, because you saw yourself, your thread disintegrated the moment you gave it your soul."

"Wait, you are the god of time, could you not turn back time?" Jikan questions.

"My son, time cannot be played with, I cannot undo what he has woven. This is his own fault and Death will be here soon to take the last of his kind away in to the next world. Taiyō has never been able to accept his home is gone and he should think himself lucky to still be alive."

The mentor shakes his head. "No, you are wrong, Death cannot take me."

Shíjiān sighs and starts to walk away.

Jikan watches him fade away, he than looks to Taiyō. "Why are you being so stubborn? Yes, your world is gone there is nothing anyone can do to return things to the way they were."

Taiyō's lips form in to a creepy smile and he whispers, "He cannot leave."

The god of time slowly returns he grabs the front of the mentor's robe.

"Release me," he hisses through his teeth.

"No, not until you return my world."

"You know I cannot do-"

"RETURN MY WORLD!" Taiyō screams. "Otherwise you will never leave."

There is a rumble of thunder and out of the shadows steps a slender white foot.

"Taiyō, Taiyō, you have gone too far," comes a guttural voice. "Shíjiān, you can leave."

The god of time bows. "Thank you, Death."

"How dare you imprison my brother when he gives life and I take it away when it is the right time to so. It is I who cuts the thread my dear brother weaves."

The room around them starts to be restored and the eye flutters out of existence.

"Taiyō, no matter what you do your world is no more. I too do not like it when nature does this, but that is the way of things. It is the natural order. I can only restore the damage you have done to this fragile world and now I shall take you in to the next world."

Jikan watches Death reach into his robes to bring out an hourglass that has very little sand left.

"I cannot believe this after everything you have taught me," expresses Jikan with a voice full of sadness. "You would do something so reckless… so irresponsible. You used Tsuki as a cover up whilst you did this."

"More like he knew the poor man was unstable, longing for me to take his immortal life, which I cannot," explains Death returning the hourglass to his robes. "Taiyō knew Tsuki would keep everyone distracted whilst he went in to the Land of Shadows to retrieve the eye, which has now been returned. He left doors at random open to give the impression there was someone helping his troubled cousin, his lover and father of their children."

"What? They have children?" Jikan quickly asks.

Death nods and with a wave of his scythe opens a portal to a place that has two suns and a large planet with rings is rising in the magenta sky.

"You will find them here, wondering why their fathers never returned. I know you will help them have a better life," informs Death turning to the other cloaked man. "Come along, Taiyō, time to go."

Jikan watches them all fade away before he enters the new world.
