His heart started to beat more quickly and more quickly. He wasn't scared if she pulled the trigger and shot him; he was scared for the other officers, who had a family. Death didn't frighten James. He was and always would be the hero. That was his life. Not to be saved, but to save others.
"Boss, are we going to die?" One of the officers questioned in a trembling voice.
James gave a head shake. "She can't kill all of us. We are seven police officers, and she only has one gun."
"Why are you following me, and who do you work for?" asked Magan. Her grip on the firearm became firmer. James could see that she was shaking while pointing the gun at them.
"We work for the LAPD. Mrs. Lewis, we are here to place you under arrest."
