Xia Xue and Xia Weisheng are the only heirs to the Xia family's fortune, not closely behind the Jia family.
The Xia family's businesses mostly consist of hotels and convenience stores, with the largest and one of the most famous 5-star hotels around Jiangqiao.
Branching out towards the main city for the purpose of trying to reach a larger and richer audience. They have already experimented with their convenience store branches, generating great wealth upon stepping foot in the main city.
And considering that the second heir, Weisheng's father, died earlier than expected, Weisheng felt a toll weighing on his shoulder as his father's responsibility passed down to him.
And being an orphan, considering his mother passed away back when he was still a child, it took everything to lift him again.
Xue loves her family, even though her father is the oldest of the Xia siblings. Weisheng is two years older than her, as his father married early.
Probably because of what her father always says to her—that when he gets married, he'll take care of the family business.
But his desire was shortly fulfilled when he took his last breath, which didn't look good for the Xia family's image because the second heir was Weisheng, a well-known fool member of the Xia clan.
Zhaohui pointed at the couch, gesturing for Meixiu to sit down first. Her bottom touches the soft cushion, feeling as though the couch is swallowing her bottom half.
Xue sat down grumpily on the single couch, her arms and legs crossed, as Zhaohui's eyes stared at her for a long time.
"Ms. Song, do you want anything?"
"We can go straight to the business."
Meixiu spoke, her eyes looking at Zhaohui as the man nodded, leaning forward to talk closely with Meixiu.
Zhaohui was about to speak up but heard the front door opening loudly. Weisheng's booming voice was heard around the empty villa.
"Uncle! Xue! I've bought someone who can help us!"
Frantic footsteps became louder as the two people mentioned looked at the entrance to where they were.
They were greeted by Weisheng, with a bright smile filling up his face. It quickly faded away upon seeing Meixiu sitting on the single couch, looking superior.
Her aura causes Weisheng to scoff. He quickly went towards his uncle, with someone following closely behind him.
"Uncle, this is Master Qiao Yongrui."
The familiar name rang inside Meixiu's ears. Her eyes stuck towards the old man, smiling and bowing down in front of Zhaohui.
Yongrui's smile falls into a flat line, seeing how arrogantly Meixiu sits down on the couch. His eyebrows furrowed in the process.
"Master Xia, may I ask something?"
Zhaohui raises an eyebrow, looking at Yongrui in confusion. The man glances at Meixiu before bowing his head and kneeling in front of Zhaohui.
"Master Xia, why did you invite this fraud of a woman?"
Yongrui said, referring to Meixiu as he looked at the middle-aged man with a smile. Zhaohui's eyes shook in the process.
He quickly stood up, causing Yongrui to sit down completely on the floor and glare at the old man.
Meixiu couldn't help but look at Yongrui in confusion. Does he not still feel satisfied with what she did back in Jia Villa?
"Who are you to tell me that!?"
Zhaohui panicked; his eyes shook, looking between Meixiu and Yongrui as if checking the reaction of the former while getting annoyed at the attitude of the latter.
Yongrui's eyes went blank but quickly regained the spark they had earlier as he thought of something.
"Master Xia, this woman is the one who caused the Young Mistress of Jia's misfortunes!"
Yongrui smirks at Meixiu. His eyes seemed to provoke the woman, who sat down with arrogance on the single couch inside the Xia Villa.
Zhaohui's eyebrows furrowed in the process. His eyes glanced at the woman sitting down, causing Meixiu to raise her eyebrows.
The woman sighs and stands up, looking at the head of the Xia family.
"If you believe him, then I'll go now."
She spoke, causing Zhaohui to contemplate whether to let the woman stay or not.
But Yongrui's statement counteracts what Suyin just said. He has called multiple family friends and been acquitted, but no one has told him a thing or two about their situation.
Only the Young Mistress of the Jia family offered help and told him one name: Song Meixiu.
Meixiu stayed for a few minutes, but not receiving any response from the middle-aged man, she decided to go away.
-
"Xia Group seems to have lost their grip in the multiple business industries, losing half of their worth."
Meixiu looks at the television without any reaction. She has already predicted that this will happen as soon as she leaves the villa.
Xiaohui couldn't help but furrow her eyebrows at the news. Her hands look for the freshly cut apple on their coffee table.
"What happened? Their company has a great foundation."
"Earlier this day, Xia Weisheng, the third heir of the Xia Group, caught up in a major accident, causing a broken rib, left leg, and right arm."
"Misfortunes, baby; they might have provoked something."
Meixiu spoke, her eyes looking at Xiaohui as the woman took a bite of the apple. The two were left alone in the small house.
Xiaowen went to the Zheng Villa to get information on what happened to the Xia family. Being alone with Xiaohui excites Meixiu.
Xiaohui looked at Meixiu before grabbing a new slice of apple to feed the woman.
"Do you believe in misfortunes?"
"Hmm."
Meixiu said her mouth opening as she took a bite of the apple. She quickly grabbed the woman's hand and rubbed it dry.
"Then, do we have misfortunes?"
Xiaohui asks, causing Meixiu to stop what she's doing. They both look into each other's eyes, one confused and one eager to find an answer.
Meixiu puts half of the slice of apple inside her mouth, chewing faster to respond to her wife.
"How do you say so?"
Xiaohui's body looks forward toward Meixiu, her eyes looking down at her lap as the taller woman raises an eyebrow.
Is this the time for them to talk about her status?
"I'm not saying this for you to feel something, but I've noticed that there are a lot of misfortunes that are happening to us."
"I can see your concern."
"Do you think we provoked something?"
Xiaohui asks, afraid that their small and happy life gets ruined by something they can't see or do not have any knowledge about.
Meixiu smiles and grabs Xiaohui's hand, rubbing her thumb at the back of her wife's hand.
"You're just overthinking things, my love."
"I'm just thinking about the future."
"I know, but that causes you to overthink it."
Meixiu said, her eyes looking down at her lap before she sighed in contemplation. Her action caught up with Xiaohui, causing the woman to furrow her eyebrows.
"I think it's time for you to know something about me."
"You're making me nervous with that tone."
Meixiu's tone became serious as the television continued to rabble. Xiaohui can't seem to hear anything other than her heart and breathing.
The taller woman looks up at her wife, smiling a little before she removes her hand from Xiaohui's.
"Your father and my father, they've agreed on something."
Xiaohui follows Meixiu as the woman stands up from the couch. Her heart is getting louder as the silence continues to haunt her.
"And that is to get us both married."
"What your father told you is not true because..."
Meixiu contemplates; her eyes look out of the window, gazing at the moon up in the sky. She sighs before looking back at Xiaohui, who has stayed silent.
"I was born and raised in a mafia household."
