Meixiu shakes her head, her eyes seemingly begging Xiaohui to drop the topic, but the smaller girl doesn't notice it.
"Then why don't you share it?"
"I don't want you to judge me."
Meixiu looks away again, not wanting to look at Xiaohui as the smaller nodded, dropping the topic.
"Ok, we'll just-"
A thunderstorm suddenly broke out of the sky. Xiaohui screamed as her hands quickly went to her ear, closing her eyes in the process.
"Are you alright?"
Meixiu went to Xiaohui's side slightly, grabbing the girl forward to put her arms around her.
The heater went out as Meixiu cursed and rubbed Xiaohui's back.
"Come on, go in the backseat."
Meixiu instructed as Xiaohui nodded, pulling away from the hug as she stepped towards the back.
Meixiu opened the compartment area and sighed widely upon seeing a coat lying inside.
She grabbed it and went to the backseat, sitting beside Xiaohui as she put the coat around the shaking girl.
"The rain keeps getting heavy."
Meixiu said, her eyes looking outside and almost seeing a gray-ish environment, the rain clouding the outside.
Her eyes went to Xiaohui as the girl nodded, her eyes drifting away as Meixiu sighs, knowing already what's inside Xiaohui's mind.
"Do you really want to know who I am?"
Meixiu asks, finally having made up her mind for the past few minutes and feeling guilt eating her up as time goes by.
Xiaohui looks at her, her head shaking but her eyes telling a whole lot different response.
"Fine, after this, I'll tell it to you."
Xiaohui's eyes widen in response as she aggressively shakes her head, her hands going in front and waving it.
"You might be uncomfortable."
"It's fine; I've been meaning to tell you about me anyway since I laid my eyes on you."
Xiaohui's face heated up but was quickly shut down by another thunderstorm. Squealing at how loud the sound is, her arms quickly went towards Meixiu as she hugged the taller girl tightly.
Her face was hiding in Meixiu's neck.
"Well, that was loud."
Meixiu said calmly, her hands going behind Xiaohui as she fixed the girl to be more comfortable.
"I'm sorry."
Xiaohui mumbled enough for Meixiu to hear. The taller person nodded and hummed in response.
"I'm sorry for forcing you to tell me things about you..."
Meixiu shudders as Xiaohui's breath flutters around her neck.
"... and for hugging you."
Meixiu couldn't help but chuckle, as she could already imagine Xiaohui's red face hiding behind her neck.
The smaller woman groans and slaps Meixiu on the shoulder, hiding herself more behind Meixiu's neck.
Another thunderstorm broke outside, but Xiaohui didn't flinch or squeal; she felt more comfortable being so close to Meixiu than she expected.
"Do you remember the night of Grandpa Zheng's birthday?"
Xiaohui nodded her head, still not removing her face from Meixiu's neck.
"Yeah, the time Grandma asks for you to buy crackers?"
Xiaohui said it was more like asking; she isn't sure if that was what really happened that night, but she doesn't want to push anything.
Meixiu sighs and nods before she fixes her body on the seat, her head resting on the headrest, as she contemplates whether to tell her wife or not.
"That night..."
She stops, her words getting caught up in her throat as Xiaohui finally rises from the hug, her hands quickly latching onto Meixiu's cheeks to wipe away the tear that left her eye.
"My father died."
Xiaohui stops, her mouth parted, as she expresses confusion and shock at the same time.
Didn't her father tell everyone she was an orphan?
Meixiu looks at her eyes before holding the hands that are on her cheeks, nodding her head as if answering the question Xiaohui has in her mind.
"I know, Mr. Shen have told everyone that I am an orphan, but that's just to keep my identity hidden."
Xiaohui couldn't help but feel a pang of pain wash over her chest. She trusted Meixiu and thought she would tell her some secrets, but she didn't know the girl was not someone she might have known for the past 5 years.
"I'm sorry, but it needed to be done. Mr. Shen knows how her wife might react to my identity, so he agreed with what my father wanted."
Meixiu looks down on her lap, ashamed that she'll have to say this earlier than expected.
"Also, I'd like to test you as well, and I don't have any words but to thank you, as you've been good to me."
Meixiu continued, her hands feeling a little cold as Xiaohui slowly parted hers.
"I never want you to know this, or if you do, I planned it to be in the future; I didn't know I'd tell it to you right now."
"Meixiu."
Xiaohui finally spoke up; her voice was not filled with emotion like when she called the girl in front of her.
Meixiu nodded as she sighed, understanding that Xiaohui might not forgive her after she revealed everything.
Well, half of everything
"I don't know how I would feel if I were to find out your identity, but promise me, the attitude and gentleness you're showing me are all true."
Meixiu finally looked up, her mouth lifting into a smile as she nodded happily. Excited, her arms quickly wrapped around Xiaohui's body as the smaller girl flinched at the unexpected action.
"Thank you so much. I'll drop every detail on you, but please keep it a secret."
The smaller girl's arms wrapped around Meixiu's body as well, her face going back to its original place as she nodded and hummed.
-
"Xiaohui!"
Tingfeng looks around the area, not seeing a car at the side. He sighs before he walks a little further to see a car.
The morning came with foggy weather because of the hard rain that hit the town.
Xiaowen is worried about Xiaohui and wants to come with Tingfeng, but the guy doesn't want to drag Xiaowen as Xiaohui might get mad at him.
"Xiaohui!"
Hearing a small voice away from the car, Xiaohui stirs from her sleep as she looks up and meets Meixiu's neck.
Her eyes scan the surroundings, and she quickly detaches herself from Meixiu, her cheeks getting painted with a red hue as the taller girl stirs in her sleep.
"Xiaohui!"
The girl cleared her throat before she sat down beside Meixiu, her arms hugging her petite body.
"Good morning; you can stay there, and we'll drive to the town."
Xiaohui nodded her head as Meixiu walked towards the driver's seat, her ears picking up a voice calling for her wife.
"Xiaohui!"
Her eyes looked ahead and saw a silhouette of a man, her mind already knowing who had called for her wife.
Meixiu's hand rested on the steering wheel as she looked at her back, seeing that Xiaohui was looking outside of the window.
"Are you tired? You didn't sleep well last night?"
Meixiu asks, her hand tapping on Xiaohui's knee to snap the girl out of her trance.
The smaller girl looked at her, her eyebrows furrowing as if asking Meixiu to repeat the question she just asked.
"Xiaohui!"
"Are you tired? You didn't sleep well last night?"
Xiaohui smiles at her and shakes her head, fixing the coat that is on top of her body.
"Can we go? I don't want to deal with Tingfeng."
Meixiu smiles at her and nods, caressing the smaller girl's knee in the process.
"Anything for my baby."
She looks away, not noticing Xiaohui's red cheeks as she starts the car and drives past Tingfeng.
"Xiaohui!"
