Chapter 18 - I'll Get The Next One

"Good job!" Dean raised his hand hoping for Leon to give him a high-five.

Leon looked at him, speechless, but seeing that they weren't alone, and how enthusiastic he was, he could only helplessly high-five him.

Clap!

Dean clapped his hand happily.

"Let's go." Leon turned around and started walking forward.

Dean smiled and followed behind him, Julius chuckled when he saw this and followed right after. After they walked for about ten minutes, they saw another beast in the forest. This beast was an early Rank one beast, just like the first one they saw. A perfect opportunity for Dean once again to try out his hand in a real battle.

Leon threw a glance at Dean, "Do you plan on fighting at all?"

The initial reason they came here was so that Dean could boost his almost zero confidence in fighting, as well as gain fighting experience from real life and death battles.

Had they not come to this place, Leon was already planning on taking Dean along to the arena, so they could fight against others. Even if they don't fight a death match, they'll still get beaten which would help increase their fighting abilities.

Dean on the other hand was lost in thoughts, just after they continued their journey, he asked himself if he was truly ready for this. Yes, he has accepted the fact that he transmigrated into a world of magic and unprecedented powers, but being someone who rarely gets into conflicts back on earth, it wasn't easy to just accept the fact that he would start killing people. Also, there was also the possibility of dying, that was what he was trying to avoid the most.

'Am I ready for this life?' He asked himself once again.

And the truth was, he wasn't. But he knew if he didn't start fighting real battles soon enough, then he would never become strong. Not just that, but he also didn't want to hide behind his father for the rest of his life.

He suddenly realized something, he was beginning to look like those young masters in some of the web novels he read who are weaklings and only rely on the strength of their backgrounds, without that, they couldn't even compete with beggars on the streets.

'I can't be like that, I hate those weak-ass characters. I'll fight! To grow stronger and protect my new family, I'll fight!' He declared internally, urging himself to take on the beast. This was the best way he could think of to encourage himself. Giving oneself a reason to pass through an obstacle was better than just giving up.

In this world, strength is the only thing that matters. Even if he attains a high cultivation stage, if he doesn't fight, then someone in a weaker stage would be able to beat him. He couldn't accept this! How can someone who transmigrates from the modern world to a cultivation world be defeated by someone in a weaker stage? It was impossible! Totally unacceptable!

"I'll fight against this one." Dean said while taking out his sword.

He felt more confident with it, and although he was still scared, he wanted to try it out. Who knows, maybe it wouldn't be as bad as he thought.

"Remember, try not to alert it of your presence until you get within striking distance." Leon advised.

Although he was slightly taken aback when Dean said he'll fight, he didn't think much about it. It was his life after all, and he doesn't have any right to tell him what to do.

"Phew... I can do this." Dean breathed heavily and encouraged himself.

With a weapon in hand, he slowly started moving from tree to tree, using them to hide from the grazing wild boar.

Compared to the first beast, this one was a little on the weaker side, but it didn't make it any less deadly. With two six inches tusks sticking out of its mouth, it would be able to cause an injury even on the bodies of a Fifth layered Body Tempering Realm Warrior.

Dean soon got within ten meters of the grazing wild boar, the boar as if sensing something raised its head to stare in the direction of the tree Dean was hiding behind.

Grunt! Grunt!

The boar grunted a couple of times and continued grazing once more.

Dean who had his back against the tree was already sweating profusely, with the hand holding the sword shaking due to nervousness.

'I can't believe I'm this tense, I'm only killing an animal. I've killed a lot of chickens back on Earth, why am I so scared now?' Dean asked himself, not understanding what was happening to him.

He took in deep breaths to calm himself, he peeked at the boar, and it was still grazing, oblivious to the danger around it.

Leon and Julius felt like it was taking forever, it had been almost two minutes now, and Dean was still hiding within a few meters of the boar.

Leon squinted his eyes, shaking his head disappointedly, he was still having a hard time believing that Dean was scared of an actual fight. Given how enthusiastic he was about becoming the strongest, this current side of him came as a shock to him.

'Oh, he finally decided to move.' Leon remained focused on Dean, and when he saw him moving, he felt a little expectant.

He watched as Dean moved from that tree to a closer one, now he was within five meters of the boar, yet, he still didn't strike.

'Why isn't he attacking yet?' He asked himself, getting a little annoyed.

Dean had wasted almost five minutes now, hiding behind a tree, he didn't attack, nor did he even show himself so he could be attacked, all he did was hide behind the tree while holding his sword close to him.

'I'm tired of watching this.' Leon brought out his bow from his storage ring.

Even though he was currently over one hundred meters away from the boar, he was confident in his archery and believed he would be able to hit it cleanly.

He notched the arrow on it and pulled back, when the string of the bow had reached its limit, he released it.

Twang!

The bowstring made a sharp sound, and the arrow traveled quickly through the air.

Swoosh!

Breaking through the wind, it soon got within fifteen meters of the boar.

The boar heard the sound of the arrow late, and just as it raised its head to look at the source of the sound, the arrow pierced into its skull, instantly killing it.

Thud!

It fell to the ground, lifeless.

Dean, who was still behind the tree, was shocked by the sound, so he quickly peeked from the side of the tree to see what was happening.

"Huh? An arrow? When was it shot?" He questioned.

Because he was too nervous, he didn't hear the sound of the moving arrow when it passed by and killed his target.

"Leon." On getting closer to the boar, he knew who killed it.

He couldn't help but feel a little dejected, the truth was, he was still preparing for some countermeasures when he would fight against the boar. But now, Leon had already killed it.

'I'll get another one then.' He comforted himself.
