My skin is alight with awareness while we bake beneath the California sun as we cruise down I-10 with the top down in Lexington's cherry red Mustang. Neither of us is saying a word as we both consider yet another moment that we almost lost one another. My head rests against my palm, supported by an elbow planted on the door's crest while Lexington stares forward, eyes trained on the road and a scowl held firmly on his face.
Lost in our thoughts, neither of us says anything until we make it back to our beach house. Lexington turns the key, pulling it from the ignition and slamming the door far harder than necessary when he exits the vehicle.
